Picture peer review

You have to add {{Wikipedia:Picture peer review/Snail}} to the main picture peer review page, not the subpage that you created. What adding it to the main page does is it shows your subpage with all the other subpages together. Leebo T/C 15:31, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You have to add to add {{Wikipedia:Picture peer review/Snail}} to Wikipedia:Picture peer review, not to Wikipedia:Picture peer review/Snail. If you want people to see it, you have to put it with all the other pictures on that main peer review page. Leebo T/C 12:09, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption

Hello there Cj.samson! If you still are interested, I can adopt you if you wish. Feel free to drop a note on my talk page. Cheers! --Hirohisat 紅葉 02:04, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Depends

I can help you in some areas, ie userboxes and general formatting, but I am not skilled enough to provide you with a high quality userpage like for example Pedro. Phgao 08:28, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You can click edit and take all the code from my userpage if you want, as there are useful boxes and templates on there as well, and then edit it to suit yourself. Also I can add that coloured purple box around your page and discussion if you want :) Phgao 08:29, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, yes but the irrelvant stuff can be edited out. You can tell me what languages you know and I can add those boxes for you. Phgao 08:36, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok I've done what I can so far without any input from you, please tell me what you think. Phgao 08:48, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, so then English is not your native language, or is it? What level are you in it? Also then Hindi is your native language? Any other languages you know? And you probably need a higher resolution of the picture if you want it to be a featured pic. Phgao 09:40, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also have a look at [2]. Phgao 09:46, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The higher the res. the better! It might just take slightly longer to upload. Phgao 09:50, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok added tamil and english and hindi. Phgao 09:52, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Go here [3], then click "Upload a new version" and you are done! ie here [4] Phgao 09:52, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Another note, please always remember to sign your comments by placing 4 ~'s. Phgao 10:06, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've signed up for a variety of projects;

Phgao 10:35, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

But the india project is a good place for you to start as you can get some good india related pics as well as wildlife pics. Phgao 10:36, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption assignment #1

I'm glad you wanted to be adopted. First of all, please read WP:5P if you haven't done so yet. It's the basic of all contributions to wikipedia :)

Then please give a summary and your view about each pillar. --Hirohisat 紅葉 17:24, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

1.Wikipedia is a encyclopedia
Wikipedia provides reference for readers all over the world, its not the place for advertisement or marketing, its the place where every one can contribute and share their knowledge, its the place where every one can work for common cause
Also see WP:NOT and comment on this too. --Hirohisat 紅葉 04:57, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Articles must abide by the appropriate content policies and guidelines as covered in five pillars.Wikipedia is not a place to publish our own thoughts and its not a place for battle, personal conflicts or self promotion and its not a repository of links, images, or media files, its not a personal web page , it should be used only to present information relevant to working on the encyclopedia.
2.Neutral Point of view
Wikipedia has neutral point of view which is appreciatable, no one cant have biased view and single persons view is not taken into consideration and no one claims the ownership
Well said. Relating to this, please comment on WP:V --Hirohisat 紅葉 04:57, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Reader should be able to check material added to Wikipedia has already been published by a reliable source. Editors should provide a reliable source for any material that is challenged or is likely to be challenged, or it will be removed, its not the place for users to contribute own research work, Wikipedai has neutral point of view policy , its good wikipedia follow's these strict policies otherwise it will be just a place of self promotion and conflict.
3.Wikipedia is a free content
All text is under the GNU Free Documentation Licen, users can edit the existing article and no user has control over any article all works text or photographs should be compatible with GFDL
Very well said. --Hirohisat 紅葉
4.Wikipedia has a code of conduct
All users should follow code of conduct, users should respect fellow wikipedians, wikipedia is a common platform where every one can grow, it is good to follow dispute resolution when conflict arises.
Just noting that dispute resolution is a very touchy area. You really don't want to go in that section. If you really feel that a user is violating some rules or not being civil, start with WP:AN/I. --Hirohisat 紅葉 04:57, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
5.Wikipedia does not have firm rules
User has got the right to edit pages and there are no firm rules and they have to be confident enough to give their opinions and suggestions. All can grow by sharing their knowledge and these works are the tressure for up coming generations
Be bold. The are certain rules that cannot be ignored, which are WP:CIVIL, WP:V, and WP:R. --Hirohisat 紅葉 04:57, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Comment

Yes I added your picture to the Snail article, it would be nice to know the type of snail it is, do you know? Also I think it is suitable as a FP, but I am not that familiar with the views of others, as I am not a professional. Phgao 21:29, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Userboxes

They are called userboxes, and if you follow the format already on your page (which you have), you can easily put more on. This might be useful reading and it also contains heaps and heaps of them to choose from [5]. Phgao 11:57, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also remember to add headings to each edit on talk pages as otherwise the conversations get mixed up. I.e add == Subject ==. Here is music [6]. Phgao 12:19, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you look here [7] you see that what you wrote does not have a heading, and mixes in with what someone else wrote. As a "test" so to say, can you see if you can fix it? Phgao 12:20, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I might add that [8] has everything you need, as all the categories are there. Phgao 12:36, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good

Nice work. Phgao 13:01, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm

I'm not sure that you can just "add" it, i'm sure there is some process that you have to go through and get the picture valued so to say. Also feel free to upload other pictures! Phgao 13:23, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also I admit I am not that familiar with the images process, you would be better off to ask here [9] for the intricacies and how you would go getting the picture to be a quaility candidate. Also the more pictures you upload, the better the chance of one to become a FP. And, the FP process does take a bit of time. Phgao 13:27, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes of course it will be featured. But one step at a time :) Phgao 13:41, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How articles are choosen

Articles are created and attained most often due to passing of Wikipedia:Notability, and in conjunction with the core content policies Wikipedia:Verifiability, No Original Research, and Neutral point of view. You should consult these for more information on creating Wikipedia articles. If you don't want articles to be speedy deleted these guidelines should be met and references and sources should be given. One of the problems often is that there are no reliable third-party published sources that would establish notability; thus you must find these sources (ie newspaper articles) for articles. Also if you want to create an article, you can create it in your Userspace, for example here [10] and work on it there until it is up to scratch, then submit it to the (Article) Mainspace. You can create as many of these userpages as you want, as long as they are sensible. Let me know if I can be of any further help. Phgao 14:16, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question

I try to spend a moderate time on Wikipedia, but it depends. Asking questions is fine, however you must really read what I provide you as those links form very much a lot of the basis of Wikipedia. Also the links provided in the Welcome notice I gave you, are good reading! These will solve a lot of future questions you might have. But I'm always here if you need clarification. Re: pls help out

Hi Samson.

Yeah, sure, if you have anything you want to ask, feel free. Welcome to Wiki. --jjron 07:04, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption task #2

Okay, since you finished your 1st assignment pretty successfully, here's the second assignment...We will be doing vandal fighting!

I want you to go to the following page User:Cj.samson/monobook.js. Add the script below.
// [[User:Lupin/popups.js]]
importScript('User:Lupin/popups.js');
Save the page and then delete your cache. Now when you highlight an internal link it will popup. This makes vandal fighting easier. Then I want you to read WP:WARN, WP:REVERT, WP:VAND & WP:CANVAS.
Afterwards, follow these directions.
  1. Click the "Recent changes."
  2. This will provide you with a list of recent edits to wikipedia. To update the list click the "go" button at the top of the page.
  3. I want you to hold your mouse over the "(diff)" button next to an edit. This will show you what changed. Applying what you learned at WP:VAND, I want you to identify vandalism.
  4. If you identify vandalism click the "(hist)" button beside the change that is vandalism.
  5. You will be brought to a list of the edits to the article that was vandalised.
  6. Now I want you to move over the date of the last edit that was not vandalism. A little popup of the previous version of the article will appear.
  7. While still on the popup click the "rv" button. That will revert the vandalism to the last legit version.
  8. Now go back to the history of the page, by clicking the history button at the top of the page.
  9. Then click the user talk of the vandal, as shown on WP:WARN.
