Mindless Self Indulgence

Mindless Self Indulgence (commonly referred to as MSI) is an American-based band. They describe their music as "industrial jungle pussy punk."[1] Their music is a blend of rock and electronica with a heavy punk and hip-hop influence, often referred to as acid punk.

Biography

Since 1997, this co-ed electronic/punk rock band has been storming the electronic and punk scenes sweeping up many hardcore fans in its wake with its music and incendiary live performances. They have released five full-length albums and a number of EPs and remixes.

The band's music is influenced by early 1980s culture. It frequently contains samples of early 80's hip-hop or rock, as well as Atari-style beeps and tones. Their second album as a band, 1999's "Tight", was mixed on Atari-style equipment.

Mindless Self Indulgence is distinguished from mainstream punk by their incorporating lyrics about being gay and related topics into a number of their songs - even titling one of their songs "Faggot", and using the word heavily in a number of their songs.

They have opened for a number of mainstream acts, including System of a Down, Korn, Staind, Sum 41, Mushroomhead, Insane Clown Posse, and Rammstein. They have also played many large musical festivals including Voodoo Music Experience in New Orleans in October of 2003, as well as headlining the Mojave tent at the 2004 Coachella Festival. They also recently headlined the "Revolution Stage" for The Projekt Revolution Tour and were part of 2007 "Give it a Name" Festival.

The band is currently headlining and supporting My Chemical Romance on a European tour which is going on during the fall and winter months of 2007.

Future

M dot Strange, (director of We Are the Strange), is set to direct MSI's next music video.

Mike Dahlquist (A.K.A. Mike Diva, a winner of the straight to video contest and singer of Vyncent Flaw) is to make a music video for an unknown song.

In an interview Urine has stated that the yet to be announced album will be released either just before or just after the Soundwave Tour in Australia in February 2008.

It has been self confirmed on Mindless Self Indulgence's official website that they will be supporting New Jersey Quintet My Chemical Romance on their November 2007 European Tour.

In the near future, Mindless Self Indulgence is scheduled to be playing in Australia. After returning from England in November, they plan to take a break for the holidays. All upcoming dates in Australia are available on their MySpace and Soundwave homepage. They will be performing with such bands as The Offspring, Incubus, and Coheed and Cambria among more.

Trivia

  • The beginning and ending of the video "Shut Me Up" (the version that was "butchered by Galus and Serpico") is a parody of the 1936 propaganda film Reefer Madness, using footage from the film. The background music in the beginning is a slowed-down version of the opening to their song, "Bullshit," and the music at the end is the same snippet, but backmasked.
