Christopher David Cohen (born March 5, 1987 in Norwich, England) is a professional footballer who currently plays in Midfield for Nottingham Forest.

Background

Born in Norwich,[1] Cohen went to William Edwards School and Sports College,[2] Stifford Clays, Grays, Essex, a school renowned for its sporting achievements.

Career

West Ham United

Chris Cohen is a product of the West Ham United youth system and he was scouted whilst playing for an amateur football club at the age of six.[3] Cohen made his first breakthrough into the West Ham first team during the 2003–04 season. The East London club were playing in the First Division at the time, after relegation from the Premier League the previous season. The drop, and subsequent loss of revenue, resulted in the departure of many of the clubs most talented players. This left the club with a much smaller squad but brought with it opportunities for the younger Academy graduates. He made his debut as a sixteen year old, coming on as a substitute in West Ham's 3–2 win over Sunderland on 13 December 2003,[4] at only 16 years old. He is the youngest player to ever appear for the West Ham first team for 80 years.[5] He featured another six times that season and went on to make 14 league and cup appearances the following season.[6]

Yeovil Town

As West Ham returned to the Premier League for the start of the 2005–06 season, Cohen found his first team chances limited. After a single League Cup appearance for the club in September,[6] he joined League One side Yeovil Town on loan in November 2005.[7] The deal was extended until the end of the season during the January transfer window.[8] Cohen finished the season with 31 appearances and one goal for Yeovil Town. At the end of the season, he won two Player of the Year Awards of Yeovil Town.[9] Cohen joined the club on a permanent basis on 28 June 2006.[10] He made a total of 81 league and cup appearances for Yeovil, scoring eight goals.[6]

Nottingham Forest

In a combined £1.2 million deal with team-mate Arron Davies, Cohen moved to another League One side, Nottingham Forest, on 6 July 2007, signing a four year contract.[11]. He missed the start of the 2007–08 season due to injury but recovered and started in Forest's 2–0 win at Port Vale.[12] He performed very well as he contributed significantly to the opening goal and was praised by manager Colin Calderwood afterwards.[13] He has been in terrific form since signing for the club, by helping them achieve a eight-game unbeaten run to put them second in the league, including a brilliant display in the 3–0 win at Cheltenham Town.
