Sniper is a French hip hop group from Val-d'Oise ( 95 ) and Seine Saint Denis ( 93 ) . The members are sons of immigrants from the suburbs of Paris: El Tunisiano (rapper, born Bachir Baccour, of Tunisian origin, hence his name), Aketo (rapper, born Ryad Selmi, of Algerian origin) from Deuil-la-Barre, Black Renega, now Blacko (reggae singer, born Karl Appela, of Reunionnais origin) from Montfermeil, and formerly DJ Boudj (DJ, of Algerian origin) from Saint-Denis.

The group was formed in 1997 under the name Personnalité Suspecte, which was abbreviated "Persni," and then reversed to SNIPER (see verlan). The group started by appearing on mixtapes and compilations such as The Power of Unity, Premiere classes, and B.O.S.S.. They released their first album, Du rire aux larmes .Their second album, Gravé dans la roche, was released .In 2006. Sniper released their third album, "Trait pour trait" without DJ Boudj as a member and a few others that had participated in the albums before such has authentik 9.4 and NARKOTICS KLAN. The Group is not sure to whether continue or stop as a few years have gone by and much of the group want to go solo just as NARKOTIK CREW and Authentik 9.4 did and joinded to form a youth rap group called NARKO BRIGADE in which the rapper Aketo as helped in the making of a mixtape called " Main o Dos "

Many of the group's songs handle political themes, such as the Israeli occupation of Palestine in Jeteur de pierres and injustice in the French political system in La France and another time in their new song La France 2.

Because of the group's use of profanity, the French President Nicolas Sarkozy attacked the group in November 2003 for lyrics that he considered 'violent, racist and abusive'.
