Changing username/Simple
This page is a forum in which users can request, and global renamers (including stewards) can consider and carry out, requests to rename accounts to usernames that are not yet taken on any Wikimedia project. While global renamers carry out renames, other users (including bots) help by "clerking" the mechanics of this process. If you wish to help as a clerk, please read the linked page carefully.

Instructions
For help 'vanishing' from Wikipedia,
please see courtesy vanishing.

Once you have decided on the name you would like:

  1. Read this page first. You must be aware of, and understand, all of that information before requesting a username change
  2. Check to make sure this username is not already in use. Do this by searching for the name here. If the name appears in the results, even if on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
  3. Do not create an account under the new name or move/redirect your userpages. We'll do that for you.
  4. Log in with your present username in order to place your request. Renames will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Click here to place your request.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=
    • Do not change anything after CURRENT=
  6. Make sure that you have spelt your desired name correctly, including capitalization and spacing. Save the page. If your request is submitted malformed, please remedy it according to this page.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any questions that may arise regarding your request. Please be patient. It may take a few days for your request to be completed. If you do not answer any questions, your request may be declined due to no response.
  8. Once your request has been completed, please do not remove or change your request. It will be archived automatically by a bot.
  • Requests that do not adhere to these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

Important Notes After you are renamed...
  • Due to technical limitations, usernames may not start with a lowercase letter. However, you may use the template {{lowercase title}} on your user and user talk pages, and change your signature to reflect your preference.
  • Underscores and spaces are considered identical by the MediaWiki software.
  • Use of a company, organization, group, website, or product name as a username is prohibited by the username policy.
  • Please understand the implications of using your real name before requesting a name change to it.
  • ... your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited.
  • ... your userpage and any subpages will be moved to the new name automatically. Please do not attempt to move them yourself.
  • ... links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be left behind to your new userpage.
  • ... your request will be automatically moved to the archives in the interest of transparency.

Metal to the Max! → .....The Great One.....

Bureaucrat note: I think remembering how many dots you have before and after the name may be a hastle for those trying to contact you and it may also be a nuisance for you whenever you sign in. Are you sure this is the name you want? WjBscribe 02:34, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Im sure, i did 5 dots. If theres no other user with the user The Great One thyen i would be happy to just use that.--Metal to the Max! 05:26, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note: The Great One and The great one are both taken (how'd that happen?), but both meet the requirements for usurpation. —Random832 14:58, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: There haven't always been restrictions on choosing usernames that differed only in capitalisation from existing names. Secretlondon (talk) 19:50, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well if those two got to have the same username minus a small differ, then mine stands out ALOT more with the dots, therefore being noticable.--Metal to the Max! 11:02, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not done, I think WJBscribe is right about the dots, and I recommend usurpation. -- Andre (talk) 02:23, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lemon-lime → ペコペコ

Bureaucrat note: What language is that in? Where else do you use that name? Secretlondon (talk) 21:27, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's Japanese onomatopoeia for hungry. I use it various places on the internet (I'd rather not specify for anonymity's sake) and I've got a request going on Commons as well for the change. I'd be fine with PecoPeco if you don't like the Japanese characters, but I would prefer the real thing.Lemon-lime (talk) 03:51, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Personally I'd prefer PecoPeco as non latin characters cause problems with some users, and it's not as if you are actually editing on the Japanese wiki. Secretlondon (talk) 19:52, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As you wish. I was planning on using a signature with the Latin characters to solve that problem, but feel free to what you think is best. (Speaking of which, I should be an editor on the Japanese Wiki. I don't know why I am not. :-) Thanks for the nudge.) Lemon-lime (talk) 21:00, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am now a member of Wikipedia Japan, if that makes any difference... username: ペコペコ. Lemon-lime (talk) 23:02, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the mass of information, but now I'm ペコペコ over at commons, so at this point, I feel like ペコペコ is the only way to stay consistent. Thanks! Lemon-lime (talk) 20:27, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
 Done -- Andre (talk) 02:23, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kharybdis → Rakel

Bureaucrat note: This user doesn't qualify for a usurption as their only real edits are to their userpage - however if you can show you use the name on other wikis we'll consider it. Secretlondon (talk) 19:43, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
 Not done -- Andre (talk) 02:23, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Danielle1983 → Gibraltar07

Neutral comment Are you sure you want that name? User:Laos got blocked because Laos is the name of a country. I got scared that people would block me saying that Congo is a country. Gibraltar07 is a bit different from Gibraltar. It's up to you. Maybe Gibraltar Road or Danielle Gibraltar? Or just start a new account as that's what 'crats often suggest if you only have 1-2 days of edits like you have. You can be perfectly honest by just making a note on your user page what your new username is. Congolese fufu (talk) 05:34, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As a side note, the name you request in the header is not the name you have listed in the requested name field, but it is the one in the rename link. Which do you want to be renamed to? I (talk) 05:44, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanx for the advice but i would like to rename to Gibbo007 if thats possible? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Danielle1983 (talkcontribs) 14:38, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

 Done -- Andre (talk) 02:23, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Caston Smith → Hound Dog

Clerk note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:CentralAuth. Please choose another name which is not already in use. Qst 13:16, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
 Not done -- Andre (talk) 02:23, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

KatRDNS → Kat7207

Clerk note: I'm not sure how "RDNS" is a WP:U breach, which is what seems to be implied. -Jéské (Auld lang syne) 02:48, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ryan57 → Ryan Taylor

Clerk note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:CentralAuth. However, as this requested account has made no edits, it meets the criteria for being usurped; if you are an established user and wish to usurp it, please read and follow the process at m:Steward requests/Username changes. If you do not wish to usurp the username, please choose another name to be renamed to.

  • However, the editor requesting rename may not qualify for usurpation; but he might be close with ~250 edits, and a bureaucrat would hopefully make a decision on that before he goes to usurpation (if that is what he chooses to do). Also, the account Ryan Tayler was created via the WP:ACC process, this may not matter, but just to note I (talk) 05:03, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not done, go to usurpation -- Andre (talk) 02:23, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

HOWARDYELLEN → HLBLANTON10

In your request, you capitalised every letter of both names. However, your username is not capitalised, which lead me to think it might have been an error. Would you like your new name to be in all capital letters? I (talk) 19:22, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

JimLiu → Jim.Liu

 Done -- Andre (talk) 02:23, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Algszs → Algszs

Clerk note: All usernames start with a capital letter per MediaWiki software restrictions. Sorry. -Jéské (Auld lang syne) 09:47, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
 Not done -- Andre (talk) 02:23, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Codelyoko193 → Interrobang²

 Done -- Andre (talk) 02:23, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

FadedSoul → PAArty

Clerk note: Judging by this edit, it appears you want the first letter of your requested username to be decapitalised, this is impossible, as the sytem automatically makes usernames start with capital letters. Qst 18:35, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay go ahead with the capital P--FadedSoul (talk) 18:49, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
 Done -- Andre (talk) 02:23, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Randyhi → RandyHI

 Done -- Andre (talk) 02:23, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nigelfreeney → Nigel Freeney

 Done -- Andre (talk) 02:23, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

George.adam → VoxAdam

 Done -- Andre (talk) 02:23, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Graham.en.johnson → Rs568

 Done -- Andre (talk) 02:23, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Safa.alai → Safa Alai

Vikramrattan → VikramRattan

Skittlesgal → Quite a Commotion

Willem Huberts → WH1953

Lara odoffin → Linkitinki

Dawnhornby → Dawnhornby

Clerk note: All usernames on Wikipedia begin with a capital letter because they system automatically converts them so, so this rename would make a differece. You can, however, adjust your signature in Special:Preferences so your usernames displays decapitalised. Qst 12:02, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

{{subst:Rodolfo Llinas|CURRENT|NEW|Renopl. Reason for requested renaming. accepted usage }} Rodolfo Llinas (talk) 13:47, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Craigmische → CraigMische
