Song

"Lying Is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off" is the fourth single by rock band Panic! at the Disco, from the album A Fever You Can't Sweat Out. Released on August 7, 2006, it is the fourth single overall, but third commercial single ("The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide Is Press Coverage" was not commercially released as a single). The song is sometimes referred to by the shortened title "Lying Is the Most Fun" for radio.

The song's title originates from a line in the 1997 play "Closer", written by Patrick Marber. The line was originally spoken by the character Alice who, in the debut performance, was portrayed by English actress Liza Walker. It was also repeated in the 2004 film of the same name, spoken by the same elusive character Alice, this time portrayed by Natalie Portman. The prior Panic! at the Disco single "But It's Better If You Do" takes its name from the line after "Lying Is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off" in both the play and the film.

Music video

The music video was filmed on June 19, 2006 in Los Angeles, California. The video was premiered on MTV2 on July 14, 2006. It features people with fish tanks on their heads. The video only shows the band in one scene (the paramedics are the band members), because the band felt that their looks were distracting from their music.

The music video starts out with a woman walking on a sidewalk. Oddly she has a fishtank on her head and all the people around her also have a fishtank. She quickly runs into a puddle and follows it to find a fish flapping around. She places it into her tank and stares at it. Then the woman heads over to a group of people to discover them gathered around a man who's tank broke and he is dying now. The woman has flashbacks to reveal that the man is her husband. She then attempts suicide by pouring out her own tank and collapsing. The band arrives in two ambulances(labeled Receiving Hospital)and takes them away in bathtubs. The band then carries the two across a beach and throws them into the ocean. There the woman holds the man.

The band includes a 15 second intro instead of starting the vocals right at the beginning.

The single has received wide rotation on radio but the music video failed to chart on TRL.

The band has reported on Steven's Untitled Rock Show that they chose this plot for the video because they felt it was very different from the other treatments they were being offered from other directors.
