Controversy
The 2006-2007 school year brought on an extraordinarily controversial act regarding segregation in public schools. John Brewer(a white male) and Jamie Braxton (a black female) imposed a new system of homerooms, coined club-houses, be established. When school opened in September of 2006, all black males were redirected to a separate classroom for homeroom. They were named 'Men on a Mission' on the basis that black males are most likely to fail out of high school, and hold the lowest GPA at Dominion. The homeroom focuses on academic improvement, and is given shirt and ties to wear on a weekly basis.
The student organization known as the an-titans rose in opposition to Dominion's segregation policy in forms of petitions, civil disobedience, and questioning Brewer on the legality of his actions. When Dominion senior Evan Breen asked to speak to Brewer on the subject, he refused.
A lawsuit is currently being filed against Dominon being in opposition of the ruling of Brown v. Board of Education, but Men on a Mission is currently in effect.
