The North American telephone area code 757 was established July 1, 1996 as a split from area code 804. It covers the southeast corner of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The region within its service area includes the following:

Before the implementation of number pooling, 757 was projected to run out of numbers as early as 2002. A plan that would have allowed an overlay in the Hampton Roads metro and left all of the Eastern Shore in 757 (similar to the Oregon 971 overlay) was planned.[1] However, this plan was never implemented and the area code is not projected to reach full capacity until sometime in 2011. People who live in this area often refer to where they live as "The 757." Various hats, jeans, clothes, exc. with 757 are sold in these areas.
