New York State Route 93 is a state highway in New York, USA. This highway runs in a northwest-southeast direction between Youngstown, New York in the Town of Porter (Niagara County) and through the Village of Akron to its east end in the Town of Newstead (Erie County) just south of Akron.

The western terminus is New York State Route 18F (Lower River Road) near the Niagara River in the Village of Youngstown. At that location the Route 93 is known as Lockport Street. The eastern terminus is New York State Route 5, south of the Village of Akron, where the highway is called Buell Street.

Route description

NY 93 begins in the center of the village of Youngstown, heading east from an intersection with NY 18F (Main Street) along Lockport Street. It has an interchange with the Robert Moses State Parkway at the eastern village line then proceeds in an east southeast direction across the town of Porter as Youngstown-Lockport Road, passing through the hamlet of Ransomville just before entering the town of Cambria (via a short run through the southwest corner of the town of Wilson). In Cambria, it turns east onto North Ridge Road to its intersection with NY 104. From here, NY 93 runs along NY 104 until the Lockport town line, where it then turns south along Townline Road (also known as Lockport Junction Road).

At the intersection with NY 31, NY 93 turns east, joining NY 31 towards the city of Lockport. The southward continuation of the road becomes NY 270. Just outside the city of Lockport, NY 93 leaves NY 31 at the intersection with the Lockport Bypass (officially known as the William Gregory Bypass). It heads southeast and south across the southwest corner of the city along the Lockport Bypass until the intersection with Robinson Road. From here, NY 93 then turns east along Robinson Road, later becoming Dysinger Road. Soon after crossing into the town of Royalton, NY 93 turns onto Akron Road, which proceeds generally southeast towards Tonawanda Creek. After crossing the creek into the town of Newstead (and Erie County), NY 93 turns south towards the village of Akron along Maple Street. It shifts east along Lewis Road to Cedar Street and runs north-south across the center of Akron, leaving the village along Buell Street, which ends at an intersection with NY 5 south of the village.

History

NY 93 was established as part of the 1930 state highway renumbering, connecting the cities/villages of Youngstown, Lockport, and Akron.[2] It originally ran through downtown Lockport following modern NY 31, then shifting to High Street using Prospect Street. The route left the city along Akron Road (now unsigned New York State Route 954M), meeting the current alignment of NY 93 southeast of the city.[citation needed]

In November 2005, it was suggested that Route 93 change from the path of Upper Mountain Rd to New York State Route 31 west to the end of New York State Route 270. It would then turn right onto townline rd and continue a path to New York State Route 104. This part of the agenda was passed and the change was official. Upon a motion duly made by Councilman Blackman and seconded by Councilwoman Kroening, it was resolved to support the proposal from NYS Department of Transportation for the rerouting of NY Route 93 along Upper Mountain Road to New York State Route 31 and New York State Route 270 (Junction Road).[citation needed]
