The following is a list of characters from the popular manga and anime series YuYu Hakusho.

The names are listed in Western order, with the surname after the given name.

Main characters

The following are the series' main characters. In the series, five of the main characters, Yusuke Urameshi, Kazuma Kuwabara, Kurama, Hiei, and Genkai, former a team in the Dark Tournament called Team Urameshi.

Yusuke Urameshi

Keiko Yukimura

Keiko Yukimura (雪村 螢子 Yukimura Keiko) is a top student with a personality opposite that of childhood friend Yusuke, the two also being closer than either like to admit. Keiko's parents run a ramen restaurant named Yukimura Diner (雪村食堂 Yukimura Shokudō). After Yusuke is killed in a car accident, he is permitted another chance to live should someone kiss his corpse, this ending up being Keiko. Yusuke tries not to involve her with his spirit detective escapades, though multiple interferences from demons prevent this. After being told an almost unbelievable lie by Botan, Keiko learns the truth when she goes with Botan, Atsuko, and Shizuru to the Dark Tournament, and continues supporting Yusuke in his further adventures. Towards the end of the series, Yusuke proposes to Keiko, and even after having to wait three years for him to return to her, Keiko still loves him. Keiko's name means "Blessed/Respectful Child".

Kazuma Kuwabara

Botan

Botan (ぼたん, Botan) is the happy and perky, and sometimes dimwitted guide to the underworld. Botan has blue hair in a ponytail, wears a bright pink kimono, and flies sidesaddle on an oar. These particulars derive from Chinese and Japanese mythology. Blue (usually as a skin color, but also as an eye color) was associated with the land of the dead, which was also supposed to be the reverse of the land of the living: her kimono is fastened in reverse, right over left; and girls, not strong-armed boatmen like Charon, rowed lost souls across the Sanzu River. Botan works hard, cares deeply for others, and tries not to let her friends know when she's down. Botan is not a fighter like those around her, but possesses heightened spirit awareness and spiritual energy. If fighting, she usually uses blunt weapons, like her oar or a metal bat. Botan can use any of Yusuke's detective items while in human form. Botan also possesses healing powers. In fact she might be or at least she acts like a cat spirit.

Koenma

King Enma Jr., usually addressed as Koenma (コエンマ, "little Enma"), a combination of Ko (meaning child) and his father's name, is the son of spirit realm ruler Enma, and the one who takes responsibility of his father's work when he's away. Koenma overthrows his father when it's discovered Enma deliberately allows demons to cause chaos in the human world. Koenma usually appears as a toddler with a pacifier in his mouth, though he's at least 700 years old. Koenma has wisdom of the universe and its history, and will help however he can, though at times he's cowardly and a typical comic relief character. Koenma's main abilities are based around his pacifier, which holds spirit energy used for barriers, sealings, and bringing life back to corpses. He can transform to a bishōnen.

Kurama

Hiei

Genkai

Genkai Genkai, aging master of the Reidoha (or Spirit Wave) fighting technique, wishes to pass her knowledge to one worthy pupil before she dies. Yusuke is chosen to be that pupil, and he soon discovers Genkai's training to be the most difficult ordeal of his life. Despite her advanced years, Genkai constantly amazes Yusuke with her ability to perform superhuman feats of strength and agility. Her wit is as finely honed as her technique, and she possesses the wisdom that comes from a life rich with experience. Impossible to intimidate, she stares unflinchingly into the face of danger, ready to meet even the most daunting of challenges. She is called Master Geremaiah at Philippine dub.

Yukina

Yukina (雪菜) is the kind, thoughtful, and somewhat naïve twin sister of Hiei. Yukina was born as an ice apparition (Kōrime, 氷女, literally Ice Woman), who have abilities relating to snow and ice, light healing abilities, and tears that become valuable gems. At some point, Yukina was kidnapped by an associate of the Black Book Club, but gets rescued by Yusuke, Kuwabara, and Hiei. Yukina later finds out about her brother, and searches out to find him, eventually finding out that Hiei is her brother in the manga. Yukina is also the love interest of Kazuma Kuwabara, although she remains unaware of this. She is called Mikaela at Philippine dub.

Allies

Atsuko Urameshi

Atsuko Urameshi (浦飯温子 Urameshi Atsuko) is Yusuke's alcoholic mother, who gave birth to him at 15. Atsuko wants nothing more than for her son to turn out better than her, but doesn't succeed, and really cares about her son, crying at his funeral. Like her son, Atsuko can see and sense demons.

Shizuru Kuwabara

Shizuru Kuwabara (桑原静流 Kuwabara Shizuru) is Kuwabara's tough older sister with a high level of Reiki sensitivity. Similar to Yusuke's mother, Shizuru wants her brother to make something of himself. In the anime, she takes on Atsuko's role, and also falls in love with Team Toguro's leader Sakyo, who saves her life twice, though she doesn't learn of his true identity until the end. Following the Chapter Black saga, Shizuru, tired of seeing her brother endanger his life, forces him to keep up in school.

Asato Kido

  • Age: 15

Asato Kido (木戸亜沙斗 Kido Asato) is friends with Yu Kaito and Mitsunari Yanagisawa, and the three get angry when Sensui's Seven plan on destroying their hometown. Like his friends, Kido gained psychic powers through the portal to the demon plane. Kido has the power to paralyze someone by stepping on their shadow, and can move his own shadow independently from his body to affect objects in the natural world. After Sensui is defeated, Genkai tells them to never use their powers again.

Yu Kaito

  • Age: 17

Yu Kaito (海藤優 Kaitō Yū) is an extremely intelligent literary genius. He is characterized as an over-achiever, who is unable to cope with defeat, this is seen where he resents the fact that Kurama is superior to him, and also during his fight with gamemaster. Where Kaito finds difficultly in accepting that he was unable to find the complex equation hidden in the game. He is friends with Asato Kido and Mitsunari Yanagisawa . He forms a rivalry of sorts with Kurama, who goes to his school and scored higher on every test than Kaito, with the exceptions being language and literature. Kaito is serious, intelligent and addicted to video games. Kaito's main power is to turn words or letters into "Taboo", and anyone who says the word, or uses all letters of that world in the same uninterrupted order, within ten meters from him loses their soul. Kaito also had a small "fight" with Amanuma and loses, though, after Amanuma's death, asks Koenma to bring him back to life. After Sensui is defeated, Genkai tells them to never use their powers again.

Mitsunari Yanagisawa

Mitsunari Yanagisawa, often called "Yana" for short, is friends with Asato Kido and Yu Kaito, and the three get angry when Sensui's Seven plan on destroying their hometown. Yana seems to not know what the latest fads are or what normal people usually do. Yana can copy a person's DNA, memories, etc. through touch, which can only be reversed through his will or inflicted pain. After Sensui is defeated, Genkai tells them to never use their powers again.

Team Toguro

Team Toguro are the primary antagonists of the Dark Tournament saga. They managed to reach the final round of the Dark Tournament, but lost to Team Urameshi.

Sakyo

Sakyo is the wealthy owner and leader of Team Toguro and a member of the Black Book Club. Sakyo's main interest is gambling, and is usually a very calm, collected, and intelligent person while keeping his evil side influencing his outside self. Sakyo became very wealthy quickly by threatening to wager his life while gambling, leading most to quit, and eventually joined the Black Book Club. Sakyo, should Team Toguro win the Dark Tournament, had planned out everything perfectly: as a team member he would be given one wish, and as leader be given most of the Tournament's finances, allowing him to help further the BBC's plans. Sakyo wagered his life during the final battle, and after his team loses, Sakyo set a self destruct button in the arena, crumbling everything around him, including himself. Although he may have been the antagonist in this season, he was still a man of his word. In the anime, Sakyo has a romantic relationship of sorts with Shizuru, Kuwabara's older sister.

Younger Toguro

Younger Toguro is the stronger, younger brother of Elder Toguro. Always calm and collected, Toguro has always had emptiness in his heart, though attempts to fill this with power. Younger Toguro was a teammate of Genkai's in the Dark Tournament fifty years prior to the series, joining to kill a demon who slaughtered his disciples, and after emerging as victor, Younger Toguro wished to become a demon. As a demon, Younger Toguro's main ability is muscle manipulation, and he names his power levels by percentages. When at 100%, Younger Toguro must devour the souls of those nearby to keep his almost indestructible body energized. In the end, however, Younger Toguro was only looking for a stronger opponent to defeat him, which comes in the form of Yusuke Urameshi, and died thanking Yusuke. In the afterlife, Younger Toguro asked to be sent to the last circle of hell, which is 10,000 years of torture for 10,000 cycles until the soul ceases to exist. In the second popularity poll, Younger Toguro ranked at 10th place with 447 votes.

Elder Toguro

Elder Toguro is Younger Toguro's unpleasant and sadistic elder brother, and usually rides on his brother's shoulder. He fought alongside his younger brother in the Dark Tournament 50 years before the series, and wished to be a demon after their team's victory. Elder Toguro can alter the shape of his body to form weapons out of his body parts or move organs to escape harm, and also has powerful regenerative abilities, almost to the point of immortality. He fought and lost to Kuwabara in the final rounds of the Dark Tournament, and was punched off the island by his disgusted younger brother. Elder Toguro's remains were found by Sensui, and took over Makihara's body. Kurama, however, then attached a cursed tree to Makihara's body that would drain Elder Toguro's energy until death, though his immortality would backfire and bring him eternal pain. In the second popularity poll, Elder Toguro ranked at 11th place with 421 votes.

Karasu

Karasu was defeated by the Toguro brothers several years before the series, and he followed them when promised a rematch. Raven-haired Karasu is always calm and serious, yet sometimes quite sadistic. Karasu can create explosives, and can even use his spirit energy to explode objects without contact. After taking off his lower facial mask, Karasu's hair turns blonde, and he can use a powerful full-body explosion. Karasu also gained a crush of sorts on Kurama, wishing to gain his severed head. Karasu, however, gets killed by Kurama, after he channeled the majority of his life energy into a final attack. In the second popularity polls, Karasu made 8th place with 698 votes, making him the most popular of Team Toguro.

Bui

Bui, like Karasu, was defeated by the Toguro brothers and followed them when promised a rematch. Bui is easily defined by his heavy armor, which is used to contain his gigantic strength increasing aura, and an axe larger than he is. Bui fought and lost to Hiei in the final round.

Sensui's Seven

Sensui's Seven are the main antagonists of the Chapter Black saga.

Shinobu Sensui

Shinobu Sensui (仙水忍, Sensui Shinobu) is the leader of Sensui's Seven. Sensui was the former Spirit Detective before Yusuke and held strong views about demons being evil and humans good, though, after witnessing the Black Book Club hire humans to torture demons, began to question humanity. He and his partner, Itsuki, the one demon he trusted before the ordeal, formed an army of seven, with two as the leaders of the other five. Sensui has seven split personalities. Sensui mastered the art of combining both spirit energy and martial arts into an elegant form of fighting called Reikouresshuuken (霊光裂蹴拳). Sensui was also the only one capable of Seikouki (聖光気 holy light energy), or a special kind of holy energy that can only be accessed by wanting to change the world around you. While the training normally takes 40 years, Sensui mastered it in six due to his split personalities. Sensui was at such a level of strength that he managed to kill Yusuke and defeat Kurama, Hiei, and Kuwabara in the Demon plane. A revived Yusuke possessed by Raizen later appears and kills Sensui, a wish Sensui secretly had inside of him. Itsuki then takes his body to another dimension so he won’t be judged by Spirit World. It's also revealed that Sensui would have died even without Yusuke's interference due to a terminal illness. His codename during the Chapter Black saga is Black Angel. (Dark Angel in the original version.)

Itsuki

Itsuki (闇撫の樹) was a demon who became attracted to Sensui, at first watching him from the distance, and then secretly killing demons hunting Sensui. Sensui, however, viewed Itsuki as just another demon and nearly killed him, though let him live when Itsuki asked to live another day to watch his favorite television show's finale, and even laughed at this. The two eventually became partners. Itsuki later escaped with Sensui and formed Sensui's Seven alongside him. Itsuki has also stated he wished for Sensui to be his lover. Itsuki can open portals between different dimensions. Itsuki has also tamed a demon, Ura-Otoko, that fed on human trash and lived in the bowels of the Earth. After Sensui's death, Itsuki takes his body to a different dimension, where they can stay in silence for all eternity. His ability to create portals earns him the codename Gatekeeper during the Chapter Black saga.

Kaname Hagiri

Kaname Hagiri (刃霧要 Hagiri Kaname), codename Sniper, is a young high school student, and was the most loyal of Sensui's Seven to Sensui besides Itsuki. Even after Sensui's death, Hagiri still believes in Sensui's actions. Hagiri's specialty is long-ranged attacks with seemingly harmless objects, like dice or marbles, coated in his spirit energy to make them hard enough to penetrate flesh, and can fire with deadly accuracy from as far away as 500 meters. Hagiri can also make Death Print Bulls-eye, which are targets Hagiri's projectiles automatically follow. Hiei almost kills Hagiri when he attempts to kill Yusuke, though Kamiya heals him. Hagiri disappears after high school.

Minoru Kamiya

Minoru Kamiya (神谷実 Kamiya Minoru), codename Doctor, is a doctor whose abilities revolve mainly around his medical knowledge, such as using his hand to cut or heal, make him impervious to pain, manipulate his body chemistry, and creating demon parasites that spread a psychic disease. Kamiya believes humanity is a disease, and has no remorse against dying, though slightly fears death. Yusuke defeats him after he infects an entire hospital, and Kamiya is arrested, though he escapes and alters his appearance with his abilities. Kamiya then finds a hospital, where he uses his powers to heal people, and somewhat regains his sanity.

Kiyoshi Mitarai

Kiyoshi Mitarai (御手洗清志 Mitarai Kiyoshi), codename Seaman, was a young kid around Yusuke's age who was often bullied by others, developing a deep misanthropy because of this. Mitarai, however, was only lonely and lacked friends. Mitarai's ability is to combine water with his blood to create sea monsters made of water. Mitarai is sent to kidnap Kuwabara, but is eventually defeated, and Kuwabara takes him to Yusuke's house. Mitarai is treated there and tells them about Sensui's Seven. Sensui and Hagiri then attempt to kill Mitarai, though Kuwabara and Botan protect him. Mitarai, who chooses to leave Sensui's Seven, leads Yusuke and friends straight to Sensui. After Sensui is defeated, Mitarai is accepted into the city's finest high school, and remains close friends with Kuwabara. Kiyoshi's name means "Quiet".

Tsukihito Amanuma

Tsukihito Amanuma (天沼月人 Amanuma Tsukihito), codename Gamemaster, is a child who can make any videogame come to life, and all those around him, including himself, must follow the game's rules. Amanuma himself is a master of games, namely because of a lack of friends and his parents constantly working and fighting each other, and joined Sensui's Seven because he lost to Sensui. Unlike other members, Amanuma is cheerful, bright, and pleasant, though rather competitive. Amanuma is sent to block Yusuke and friends' path to Sensui, and plays games, namely a video game named "Goblin City", which Yu Kaito is a fan of, with them until Sensui opens the portal. Kurama, however, beats Amanuma at a game similar to Tetris and kills Amanuma. Kaito then takes his body to Koenma to revive. After Sensui's death, Amanuma is accepted into a private school and makes several friends.

Sadao Makihara

Sadao Makihara (巻原定男 Makihara Sadao), codename Gourmet, can eat anything and gain their powers. Sensui planned to have Makihara eat Kuwabara and gain his dimension-tearing powers. Makihara, however, eats Elder Toguro, who then takes over Makihara's body.

Three Kings

The Three Kings were the three rulers of the demon plane.

Raizen

Raizen (雷禅, Raijin, meaning Zen of Thunder) was the strongest of the Three Kings, the God of War, and the strongest character in the series. Raizen, however, was nearly killed in battle and nursed back to life by a human (a Buddhist doctor in Medieval Japan) who he fell in love with and impregnated with his baby. Raizen vowed to never eat another human again until he saw her again, though she died before he could, and, keeping his promise, went on starving himself for hundreds of years, and his power decreased as his hunger grew. The family line of the witch doctor continued into Yusuke Urameshi. Just minutes before starving to death, Raizen still had enough strength to fight evenly with S-Class warriors. Raizen possessed Yusuke during his battle with Sensui, and with Raizen's help Yusuke defeated Sensui. Raizen then tells Yusuke to train relentlessly for months so he will surpass Raizen and gain his kingdom before he died. Yusuke fails to do so, however, and Raizen dies without Yusuke surpassing him. Yusuke still gains Raizen's kingdom, however, and forms a tournament with Yomi and Mokuro to find a ruler for the entire demon plane.

Mukuro

Mukuro (軀, meaning Body or Corpse) was the female member of the Three Kings. Mukuro was abandoned at birth, and her adoptive father abused her in the worst ways, including rape. At the age of seven, she could take it no longer, and the formerly beautiful child poured acid on her body to escape his desires. Her stepfather, angry, had her imprisoned, and, even after escaping, could never get the shackles off her. In order to survive, Mukuro replaced the right side of her body with metal and machinery, assumed the identity of a man, and became a ruthless killer, eventually becoming strong enough to own a third of the demon plane. With a war between the Three Kings slowly forming, Mukuro calls Hiei to her side, and appoints him to her second-in-command after he defeats Shigure, who implanted Hiei with his Jagan eye, and returns his mother's tear gem, which fell in her possession, to him, revealing herself shortly afterwards.

Just when Mukuro was about to start a war with Yomi, Yusuke, who had just replaced Raizen, told them about his idea to start a tournament to choose a single emperor for the demon plane, and Mukuro supports such a tournament. Mukuro ends up fighting and defeating Hiei, who frees her from her shackles during the battle, freeing her from the past. Mukuro eventually makes it into the finals, though loses to Enki, having lost the hatred that kept her at her peak. Hiei is later shown trapping her stepfather in one of Kurama's plants, which would heal any of his wounds, and 'rewarded' Mukuro with him to slice up at her leisure. At the end of the series, she lives in her palace with Hiei, her heir and friend.

Yomi

Yomi (黄泉 meaning Hell) was the newest of the Three Kings. Yomi was once the second in command to Kurama's brigand prior to Kurama placing his soul into a mortal. Yomi, however, was reckless, losing countless men in unauthorized raids and direct confrontation, thinking it more exciting that way. Kurama, angered, sent an assassin to kill him, who failed but blinded Yomi. Yomi then grew extra ears and tuned his senses so acutely he could eventually hear all within his kingdom. Yomi eventually became a demon lord, and plotted to take over both the demon and human planes, calling on Kurama to his side. Kurama, knowing this would destroy the human plane and kill his human family, sides with Yusuke's idea to form a tournament to find a single emperor, and Yomi eventually accepts the tournament. Yomi is put up against his "son" Shura and wins. Yomi eventually goes up against Yusuke, and after their exchange of final blows, Shura's shout manages to barely keep Yomi on his feet, and Yomi is declared victor. An unnamed, weaker opponent manages to defeat Yomi in his next battle, however. Yomi then leaves to properly raise and train Shura, thanking Yusuke for helping him achieve a sense of peace he could not have attained on his own.

Minor Enemies

Four Beasts

The Four Beasts are four demons who rule a city in the demon world called "Demon City". They began sending demands to the Underworld to give them access to the human world, which they hoped to take over. When the Underworld refused, they sent demon bugs into several humans to warp their minds to serve them, and would only release them if the Underworld gave the Four Beasts permission to open a portal between Demon City the Human Plane. Yusuke, Kuwabara, Kurama, and Hiei are sent to Demon City to defeat them, and succeed.

Black Black Club

The Black Black Club (BBC) is a group of six (later five after the death of Tarukane), mostly elderly men, including Sakyo. Each of the members is extremely rich and make hobbies out of gambling. Their main goal is to create a portal between the human and demon planes, with which they plan to wreak havoc on humanity, but have never succeeded. The BBC also has a large number of associates. Besides Sakyo, at least two other members sent teams into the Dark Tournament.

Team Rokuyokai

Team Rokuyokai is a team in the Dark Tournament whose members are the first opponents of the Spirit Detectives. Rinku and Chu are both former members. Its other members include Roto, Zeru, and two unnamed members. Roto is a mediocre fighter who tries to defeat Kurama by threatening to have his mother killed. Zeru is a flame demon who is obliterated by Hiei's Dragon of the Darkness Flame. The remaining two team members, seeing Zeru's death, try to flee and are killed by a drunken Chu.

Team Ichigaki

Team Ichigaki is a team in the Dark Tournament headed by Dr. Ichigaki (Dr. イチガキ), a demon scientist who took advantage of three martial art students by poisoning their master and offering to heal him if they join his team. Dr. Ichigaki then used his inventions to put them completely under his control while also increasing their strength. Team Ichigaki fought Team Urameshi in the Dark Tournament and lost. After seeing his three minions freed by Genkai, Dr. Ichigaki then enhances himself into his monster form, but is easily thrown out of the stadium by Yusuke.

Team Masho

Team Masho or "Mashotsukai" is made up of shinobi who wish to claim Hanging Neck Island as their headquarters. Jin and Toya are both former members. Its other members include Bakken, Gama, Ruka, and Risho. Bakken is able to create a concealing fog with his sweat. Gama uses makeup to manipulate spirit and demon energy. He uses this ability to paralyze Kurama and seal in his demon energy, making him unable to fight in his next battle. Ruka is a beautiful woman disguised as a nurse. She does not actually fight but she does use a powerful force field to trap Hiei and Genkai in her medical tent, making them unable to fight. Risho, the team leader, manipulates earth, using it to form armor that also makes a powerful weapon.

Team Uraotogi

Team Uraotogi is made up of demons who are all inversions of popular Japanese fairy tales. Shishiwakamaru and Suzuka are both former members. Its other members include Makintaro, Kuromomotaro, and Ura Urashima. Makintaro is able to morph his arm into a deadly axe, even when it is severed. He is defeated by Hiei easily. Kuromomotaro uses Steaming Spheres to form beast-like armor. He is able to "memorize" the pain of an attack, so once an attack is used on him, it cannot hurt him again. Ura Urashima fights with a fishing line and uses the Idun Box to revert enemies to younger and more helpless forms. He deceives Kurama into thinking that he is fighting against his will. When Kurama tries to stun Ura, faking his death, Ura betrays him and delivers a devastating attack. However, the Idun Box has an effect of returning Kurama to the powerful demon form he had before his human birth. The Steaming Spheres and Idun Box were both provided by Suzuka.

Demon Allies

Rinku

Rinku (鈴駒) is a child demon who uses yo-yos to attack. Rinku is childish and playful, and often annoys those around him. He was a partner of Chu's during the Dark Tournament, and defeated Kuwabara during the first round. In the Saga of the Three Kings, Rinku trains under Genkai to become an A-Class demon and joins the Makai Tournament, though doesn't make it far in the Tournament. In addition to this he also starts to help train other spiritual fighters.

Chu

Chu was the leader of a team in the Dark Tournament, which Rinku was a member of. Chu is a typical drunkard, often skipping letters and always smelling like booze. Chu also has a strong sense of honor, and is a battle junky. Chu's specializes in the "Drunken Fist", which fuses his demon energy with alcohol. Chu fights and loses to Yusuke during the Dark Tournament. During the Saga of the Three Kings, Chu trains under Genkai to become an A-Class demon and joins the Makai Tournament, though automatically surrenders in the preliminaries to a demon girl named Natsume, who he has a crush on.

Toya

Toya (spelled Toya in the English manga and Touya in the English anime) is the ice master of the shinobi of the spirit world. His team, Mashoutsukai, competed in the Dark Tournament, hoping to claim the island it was held on as their own. They had spent most of their lives in darkness, so over time, they developed a desire for the light. Toya is perhaps the one who desires it the most, for of his team, he is probably the most mature and experienced. He despises cowardly and dishonorable acts. He stood up to Risho, the team leader, when Risho tried to win against Team Urameshi using low and cowardly means.

Toya returns later in the series during the Makai Tournament saga. He makes it past the preliminaries, but is barely defeated by one of Raizen's old friends. Before his fight, he gives Kurama the answer to a question Kurama had asked him during the Dark Tournament. Kurama had asked him what he would do after he found the light. At the time, Toya had no answer, replying simply that the light came first. Now he has his answer; he will fight. Toya then becomes the strongest of his fellow comrades.

Jin

Jin was a member of the Dark Tournament alongside Toya. Jin is cheerful with a sunny disposition, and strongly believes fighters should enjoy their battles. Jin has pointed ears that get pricked up when he gets excited. Jin can manipulate wind, ranging from floating in the air to creating full-blown tornadoes. Jin fought and lost to Yusuke in the Dark Tournament, though the battle was counted as a tie. In the Saga of the Three Kings, Jin trains under Genkai to become an A-Class demon and joins the Makai Tournament, though doesn't make it far in the Tournament.

Shishiwakamaru

Shishiwakamaru (死々若丸) was the leader of a team in the Dark Tournament. Shishiwakamaru's name is a pun on Ushiwakamura, a famous historic general. Shishiwakamaru is usually sadistic and cruel, and also had a large number of female fans. His main weapon is his blade, the Banshee Shriek, which has the power to steal other souls and release them as either attacks or defenses. Shishiwakamaru defeated Kuwabara in the Dark Tournament, but lost to Genkai. In the Saga of the Three Kings, Shishiwakamaru trains under Genkai to become an A-Class demon and joins the Makai Tournament, though doesn't make it far in the Tournament.

Suzuka

Suzuka was a member of Shishiwakamaru's team who specialized in creating weapons specifically for others. In the past, Suzuka, then known as Tanaka, lost miserably to Younger Toguro, and made it his goal to defeat him, but never became strong enough to do so until after Younger Toguro's death. Suzuka usually dresses up as a clown, and also disguised himself as an old man named Onji during the Tournament. Suzuka believes that he is beautiful and everyone else is ugly, and wishes to create an empire of people who worship him. Suzuka's main abilities are based around manipulating his spirit energy into powerful blasts. Suzuka defeated Kuwabara in the Dark Tournament, but lost to Genkai. He later reappears giving Kuwabara and Kurama weapons to help them against Team Toguro. In the Saga of the Three Kings, Suzuka trains under Genkai to become an A-Class demon and joins the Makai Tournament, though doesn't make it far in the Tournament.

Shigure

Shigure is a demon surgeon and swordsman, and the one who implanted Hiei with his Jagan eye. Shigure charges his customers weird requests, such as an "interesting story" or a promise, rather than money. After implanting Hiei with the Jagan eye, Shigure trained Hiei as a swordsman, warning him the other demons will attempt to find and kill Hiei once they learn he has weakened. After Hiei leaves, Shigure has Hiei promise to never tell Yukina that she is Hiei's brother, though Hiei reveals he never planned to. Many years later, Mukuro has Hiei fight Shigure to become her second-in-command, and Hiei succeeds in defeating his former master, almost at the cost of his life. During the Makai Tournament, Shigure is discovered to be alive and competing. Kurama is forced to face him during the tournament. Kurama wins the fight, and Shigure commits suicide while saying a swordsman never loses twice.

Shura

Shura is Yomi's "son", which Yomi grew in a test tube. Yomi then trained Shura personally after Yusuke brought up the idea for a tournament, so Yomi would have two chances for the throne. In the tournament, Yomi is put up against Shura, who refuses to back down, and is nearly forced to kill his own "son", though Shura eventually realizes that all of his "father's" points are guarded and surrenders. During the final moments of Yomi's battle with Yusuke, Shura shouts to his father, and this shout barely manages to keep Yomi on his feet long enough for him to be declared victor. After the tournament, Yomi leaves to properly raise and train Shura.

Enki

Enki (煙鬼) was a childhood friend of Raizen. Enki won the Makai Tournament after beating both a weakened Mokuro and Yomi. After winning, he makes a law that no demon is allowed to go into the human world to terrorize it, and assigned Hiei, along with several other tournament losers, as watchguard of the portal between the demon and human planes.
