Keen Communications, LLC., is a book publishing and packaging company created in 2007 through the merger of Menasha Ridge Press in Birmingham, Alabama, and Clerisy Press in Cincinnati, Ohio. The principle owners are Bob Selinger and Richard Hunt, along with several private investors. Keen Communications provides information and entertainment primarily in the areas of outdoor recreation, travel, sports, health and fitness, nature, and business. Through books, maps, custom publications, Web sites, a speakers bureau, and editorial and marketing services, Keen provides how-to and where-to information for participants, retailers, and manufacturers in outdoor recreation, travel, sports, and travel.
Keen Communications is made up of three book imprints.
Menasha Ridge Press
Menasha Ridge Press—located in Birmingham, Alabama—is a book publisher and packager and an information provider for the outdoor recreation and travel industries. Founded by Bob Sehlinger in 1982, Menasha Ridge is widely recognized as a leading independent book publisher covering the outdoors, wilderness sport, wildlife, cooking, history, adventure, dining, and travel worldwide. The Menasha Ridge list includes many leading adventure, environmental, and nature writers including Colin Angus, Richard Bangs, Tao Berman, Jon Bowermaster, M. J. Eberhart, Johnny Molloy, William Nealy, Andre Skurka, Buck Tilton, and others.
Menasha Ridge Press is best known for three series in the outdoor recreation field:
- 60 Hikes Within 60 Miles, which covers twenty-nine cities and locales
- Best Tent Camping, which covers twenty-five states
- Day and Overnight Hikes, which covers ten parks and recreation areas
Menasha Ridge also packages the popular "Unofficial Guides" series for Wiley publishing. The Unofficial Guide to Disneyland was voted Best Guidebook.

In 2007, Menasha Ridge merged with Clerisy Press to form Keen Communications.
Clerisy Press
Clerisy Press—located in Cincinnati, Ohio—is a book publisher and information provider in the areas of sports, sports medicine, health, fitness, nutrition, business, and travel. Founded in 2006 by Richard Hunt, Clerisy Press merged with Menasha Ridge Press to form Keen Communications. Clerisy’s first book—Crosley, by Rusty McClure, Michael A. Banks, and David Stern—reached numerous bestseller lists, including the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and Business Week.
Other Clerisy Press authors include former Olympic marathoner Julie Isphording and well-known business/creativity expert Doug Hall. Books by Clerisy Press are sold and distributed by Publishers Group West and can be found online at clerisypress.com.
Wilderness Press
In April 2008, Keen Communications purchased Wilderness Press, located in Berkeley, California. Before 1967 no other trail guides like it existed for the backcountry. The first run of 2,800 copies sold out in less than two months and its success heralded the beginning of Wilderness Press. In the past 41 years, Wilderness Press has expanded to cover all of California, Alaska, Hawaii, the U.S. Southwest and Pacific Northwest, New England, Canada, and Baja.
Wilderness Press continues to set the mark for comprehensive, accurate, and readable outdoor books.
