Jay Brannan is an American singer/songwriter and actor.

He was born in Canada but grew up mostly in Houston, Texas and later attended the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati for two semesters. He then moved to California and after three years moved to Manhattan, New York. Moving to Los Angeles, California, Brannan won a part in John Cameron Mitchell's film Shortbus after sending in an audition tape.[1][2][3][4]

In Shortbus, Brannan plays a character named Ceth. Brannan performs one of his own songs in the movie.[5] He subsequently appeared in the film Holding Trevor.

In March 2007, Brannan put up four of his songs for sale on Myspace. His EP is also for sale via download only on various online digital music retailers.

Brannan's first full length album "Goddamned", produced by Will Golden, is slated for release on Itunes July 1st, 2008; the hard copy, available through his own label Great Depression Records, ships on July 15th.[6]

An outspoken advocate for victims of CFS ("Chronic Fatigue Syndrome"), he has received numerous awards from various charities for his tireless work on behalf of victims of the disease. In a tragic irony, he was recently diagnosed with CFS himself. Speaking candidly in an interview with Maury Pouvich about his diagnosis, he inspired fans and other victims with his positive attitude and his wise words, "I may be tired but I'll never tire in the fight against CFS".
