Jill Valentine (ジル・バレンタイン, Jiru Barentain) is a video game character in the Resident Evil survival horror series.[1] She is one of the protagonists in the original Resident Evil, where she is introduced as a member of the Special Tactics And Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S.).[2] She returned as the protagonist in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, where she was no longer a member of S.T.A.R.S., merely a citizen trying to survive the viral outbreak in Raccoon City. Jill, portrayed by Sienna Guillory, also appeared in the second cinematic adaption of the series, entitled Resident Evil: Apocalypse. She is also the protagonist in Resident Evil: Genesis, the mobile phone adaptation of the series.
History
Jill first appears as one of two playable protagonists in the original Resident Evil. Along with Chris Redfield, she is a member of S.T.A.R.S' Alpha Team, deployed into the Arklay Mountains to search for her missing compatriots. Alpha Team is attacked by a several undead dogs, and retreats to the Arklay Research Facility. Jill initially works with Barry Burton, as they inspect the mansion and discover its undead residents.
Jill returns as the sole protagonist in Resident Evil 3. She fights alongside Carlos Oliveira, a U.B.C.S. soldier who is attempting to escape Raccoon City. Jill encounters Nemesis, a super soldier created by the Umbrella Corporation. She survives the incident, and appears in Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles where she works with Chris Redfield to expose and destroy the Umbrella Corporation.[3]

Films
Jill appears in Resident Evil: Apocalypse, where Sienna Guillory portrayed her character. She reprises her role as a S.T.A.R.S operative, attempting to escape the city as the T-Virus contamination begins to spread across Raccoon City. Guillory dons Jill's outfit from Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.
Novels
In S. D. Perry's novelizations of the games, the author characterized Jill as the daughter of a professional thief named Dick Valentine, and was his accomplice prior to her career in law enforcement, explaining her unrivaled infiltration skills and expertise at lockpicking.
Video games
Valentine has made several appearances in many other Capcom games. She appeared in Marvel vs Capcom 2 as a playable character, fully equipped with all her trademark weaponry from the Resident Evil series. The collectible trading card themed SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters Clash title features a Jill Valentine character card. The Japanese release of the game contains a card of Jill in her Resident Evil 3: Nemesis outfit. She makes an additional cameo in Capcom's We Love Golf!. Also, Dead Rising contains a restaurant called "Jill Sandwiches", which is a reference to an infamous dialogue between Jill and Barry Burton from the original Resident Evil. Jill has also made an appearance in Under the Skin.
