The Cheetah Girls

The Cheetah Girls are an American girl group created by The Walt Disney Company, and made famous by the eponymous Disney Channel original film and its sequel. The group consists of three members: Adrienne Bailon, Sabrina Bryan and Kiely Williams.

Group's coming

In early 2005, Disney decided to capitalize on the surprise success of The Cheetah Girls by turning the girls into a recording act outside of the movies. However, due to her busy schedule as well as being already signed as a solo act, Raven Symone decided to not be apart of the actual group. Leaving just the trio of Bailon, Williams, and Bryan. In January 2005, the girls recorded for the first time as a trio and recording act for the 2005 DisneyMania soundtrack, remaking the song "I Won't Say I'm In Love from the Hercules soundtrack.

Cheetah-licious Christmas: (2005)

The girls released their first recording in October, 2005 under Walt Disney Records, Cheetah-licious Christmas, the holiday album included classic Christmas songs, as well as several original songs, one of which was co-written by all three girls. The album peaked at number 74 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. The lead single, "Cheetah-licious Christmas", was rotated on Radio Disney and a music video for the song was shown on Disney Channel. A second single from the album, "Five More Days 'Til Christmas" was released as a Radio Disney-only single. The girls went on tour to support the album that fall. Along with Aly & AJ as the opening act, the tour was successful.

TCG: (2006-2007)

The Cheetah Girls began work on their debut album in January 2006. However, when filming and recording for The Cheetah Girls 2 came up, the album was put on hold. "We'll be making a real album, not a soundtrack", Adrienne Bailon says. "Some of the music on there will be produced by will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas", she says. "It's important for people to see us as a real musical group. We have all this great marketing around us, with the movies and other things. But we are a musical group."

In an interview with Billboard about the album, Sabrina Bryan stated that the girls worked on writing for the album on their Party's Just Begun tour and that they hope to gather an audience of older fans while simultaneously staying true to their younger fan base.[1]. Bryan also stated that the girls would work with producers they've worked with in the past as well as exploring new producers, such as Timbaland.[1] It was also stated that the album would be released on Hollywood Records.[1] Group member, Adrienne Bailon also announced that Girls Just Want to Have Fun was to be their first single from the album. In an interview with teen magazine Bop, the girls confirmed that they had already recorded tracks for this album.

During their The Party's Just Begun tour, the group performed several new songs including: Falling For You, Cheetah-licious ,Girls Just Want to Have Fun, Fuego, Do No Wrong and Fall Apart. In the end, all of the above mentioned songs were cut from the album with the exception of Do No Wrong and Fuego.

The release date of the album was confirmed as June 19, 2007, however in late March 2007, the album was pushed back and was set to be released on September 25, 2007 featuring production from J. R. Rotem of Britney Spears and Rihanna fame.[2]

It was also announced in early spring of 2007, that the release of the Girls' version of Girls Just Want to Have Fun was canceled so they could instead release So This Is Love in its place. The song is a cover version of the 1950 Disney classic from Cinderella and appears on the Disneymania 5 compilation album. A music video was shot for the single in Los Angeles over two days.[3] It was rumored to be added to the tracklisting of the new album, but this was later found to be false.

Recently in an issue of Hip-Hop Weekly Magazine, where Adrienne was being interviewed, the title of this album was confirmed to be Who We Are.[4] However, the title was changed to TCG in August 2007.[5]

The track So Bring It On was released as the album's first single. It was performed at the closing ceremonies of the 2007 Disney Channel Games, however only the group's performance of Strut was aired on Disney Channel on August 25, 2007.

The girls stated in the DVD to their In Concert: The Party's Just Begun Tour CD/DVD combo that, with this album, the fans will get to know them as "Adrienne, Sabrina, and Kiely" and not as their characters from the films.

Not long after So Bring It On was released to Disney Channel and Radio Disney, the Girls announced that Fuego would serve as the second single from the album[6]. Kiely initially stated that she was interested in directing the video[6] and that the video would be a "destination video" with a luau theme and was to be filmed in an "exotic" location.[6] This concept for the video was later scrapped and the Girls filmed a completely new concept for the song's official music video.

In August 2007, the Girls launched an official MySpace page to promote their music.

The Girls recorded their own version of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas for the holiday compilation album, A Disney Channel Holiday, which was released on October 16, 2007.

2008: One World & Other Projects

The spanish edition and deluxe edition of TCG with a bonus DVD were scheduled to be released in early 2008 but were confirmed to be cancelled by Hollywood Records. Recently the girls covered the song Someday My Prince Will Come from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs for the DisneyMania 6 album release.

The girls began filming their third Cheetah Girls movie, entitled The Cheetah Girls One World, in April of 2008. The movie, which will be the first in the series not to co-star Raven-Symone, will air on Disney Channel in the summer of 2008 with a soundtrack to be released the Tuesday before the film premieres.

Outside of the group, the girls are also pursuing solo projects. Bailon is currently recording a solo album, Bryan will release a book titled Princess of Gossip later this year, and Williams will have a role in the 2008 film The House Bunny.

In a post on her official blog in May of 2008, group member Adrienne Bailon announced that the group would begin touring soon and that the tour would most likely be world-wide rather that in just North America, as the group's previous tours had been.

The girls are scheduled to release their sophomore album using the new CDVU+ technology sometime in 2008, according to the official CDVU+ website.[7]
