2008

Does anyone know attendance for 2008? Attendance is listed for all other years. Presumably it's the same story, 80,000 tickets sold out. But I wanted to confirm that they didn't increase # of tickets.

I believe that the official denial of the Zep/Metallica rumor is worthy of inclusion, it can be removed once the line-up is announced. In putting in the one current line, I wiped two earlier edits with cites, that re-inforced it. I believe that the information that the rumor is unfounded is sufficient. The Billboard cite goes into a little more detail. I've added a wiktionary ref for 'quash' as it maybe a little obscure, especially for foreign readers. Wwwhatsup (talk) 08:53, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that it should remain. The way it is currently phrased is a good way to deal with rumor, although the word quash denotes active suppression, for example sending DMCA takedowns to or suing sites circulating the rumor, which isn't happening. I realize that quash is the word Billboard used in their coverage, but that doesn't mean it's the best one. Plain old denied is more accurate and less obscure. -₪-Hemidemisemiquaver (talk) 23:44, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. Wwwhatsup (talk) 01:43, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Update: it seems that the rumor was untrue. The issue now is people who keep posing speculation about the 2008 dates. Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. Please refrain from speculation about future events and wait until a verifiable source is published, preferably the official announcement. -₪-Hemidemisemiquaver (talk) 16:50, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The Bonnaroo website itself announced the dates, so I added them to the page. I hope this is official enough. SJFriedl (talk) 02:03, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There have been several delete-and-restores of the rumored 2008 lineup (some reversions by me), but I believe there is no real evidence that this is anything but an internet rumor. What's the best way to handle this? A friend-of-a-friend knows the tour scheduler for a major band, and she says this is all bunk. What's the best way to handle something that's looking more (to me) like just a rumor? Is this encyclopedic? SJFriedl (talk) 04:15, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article from the Tennessean newspaper regarding Robert Plant and Allison Krauss, which has been inserted, then deleted, then inserted again into this section was misunderstood by the original user. The newspaper article states the plans of the duo to tour in "Manchester". This is NOT referring to Manchester, TN. It is referring to Manchester, England. This is obvious in the context of the article, along with the last sentence of the article that refers to the as-yet unannounced US tour plans of Plant and Krauss. Please do not re-insert this reference into the article.Smarttowel2000 (talk) 04:13, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Similarly, the references to the list of groups "confirmed" on Pollstar needs to carry a direct link to the posting or article on Pollstar that references this. I have been unable to track down the Pollstar posting that says anything about confirmed Bonnaroo acts. Along with this, "according to Pollstar and their official websites" is not specific enough with a reference to be called "confirmed". As yet, neither the Bonnaroo or Superfly websites or myspace pages (each falling under the banner of "official website") have announced any "confirmed" acts. As far as I can tell, these references are pure speculation from third-parties. Unless a direct link to a specific article or posting is provided, please do not insert "confirmed" acts.Smarttowel2000 (talk) 04:13, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've asked for (and been granted) semi-protection for the article until Feb 9. Wwwhatsup (talk) 08:47, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the text about Superfly denying that neither Metallica nor Led Zep will perform because they did not say that. If you read the link that was provided as evidence for this claim, they simply said that the current rumors about these headliners were "innacurate." This could mean that one of these bands is performing and not the other. Either way, we'll know for sure at midnight EST tonight when the lineup comes out. Unitl then, we can do without such speculation. Egotrippin99 (talk) 00:38, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lineup is at http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=200880205207. Rhinowing (talk) 05:09, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure what to make of this; Pearl Jam announced that they would be playing at Bonnaroo, but this was deleted. Ten Club is Pearl Jam's official fan club and a source of real-deal announcements: is this not official enough? SJFriedl (talk) 06:29, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

SJFriedl, I deleted the Pearl Jam announcement because they're included in the full lineup, which was released at midnight EST.Rhinowing (talk) 06:35, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

the listing formated as "# The Bluegrass Allstars Feat. Luke Bulla

  1. Jerry Douglas
  2. Bela Fleck
  3. Edgar Meyer and Bryan Sutton"

should be edited to # The Bluegrass Allstars Feat. Luke Bulla, Jerry Douglas, Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer and Bryan Sutton. This is the correct listing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.26.135.210 (talk) 19:45, 6 February 2008 (UTC)  Done Wwwhatsup (talk) 20:05, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

now you can remove the individual listings for jerry douglas, bela fleck, edgar meyer and bryan sutton. thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.26.135.210 (talk) 20:08, 6 February 2008 (UTC)  Done Wwwhatsup (talk) 01:18, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

no, it's not. the individual listings that read # Jerry Douglas

  1. Bela Fleck
  2. Edgar Meyer and Bryan Sutton should be removed as they are playing in the "Bluegrass Allstars" format only. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.188.90.171 (talk) 04:35, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What's wrong with:

The 2nd mention of Phil Lesh / Larry Campbell / Jackie Greene should be removed - that's the same band as Phil Lesh and Friends. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.85.120.79 (talk) 17:01, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually it is a different Acoustic set and billed that way —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.22.249.161 (talk) 04:25, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That doesn't matter, though, they're still the same artists, it's a list of performers, not a list of sets.NewMarqueeDayMoonRising (talk) 01:56, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted Animal Liberation Orchestra neither Bonnaroo or their home/myspace page confirms them. .

Article length, sourcing

I archived the talk page, as it was getting unwieldy. It didn't look like there were active conversations, but if there were, I apologize.

This page needs attention. In particular, the highlight sections for each year. None of these are supported by reference in any way. Some of these them can probably be verified by the DVDs and possibly news articles, but most are likely from the memories of attendees. This, especially given that what constitutes a "highlight" varies from person to person, is original research, which makes Wikipedia cry. Since the article has been tagged as uncited for some time, I'm going to remove most of these highlight sections. Please don't interpret this as an attack on you if they're your contributions. They'll still be in the history. I think that some of these highlights are useful additions to the article, and I encourage anyone to put them back, as long as they cite a verifiable source. And lest you think I'm hating, let it be known that I'm a three time attendee :) -₪-Hemidemisemiquaver (talk) 17:02, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pages like this don't scale very well, as each year makes it grow and grow. Might it make sense to create separate "Bonnaroo Music Festival (200X)" pages and reference them from the main page? SJFriedl (talk) 02:12, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think so, with brief summaries left on the main page. Although having them all on one page does allow one to search on the name of an act and easily find what year they played. Wwwhatsup (talk) 03:35, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know how much it helps, but I turned the long list of band names (in paragraph form) into three-column format, and though it makes each section a bit larger, it's a bit easier to read. This might go hand in hand with splitting the years apart (which I might make a go at). They say "Be bold", right? :-) SJFriedl (talk) 05:50, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It looks a lot better. Perhaps you could do the same thing for Coachella? Wwwhatsup (talk) 14:49, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I created a new article for the splitting up the years. I made a 2002 as a start, not sure if this is in line with the proposals. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonnaroo_Music_Festival%282002%29 Gadeadhead (talk) 19:26, 23 January 2008 (UTC)gadeadhead[reply]

I don't know that it's necessary. It looks a lot better with the columns, either way. Wwwhatsup (talk) 00:00, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I understand the article was getting too long, but, honestly, I hate this article now. It's pretty much just a list of bands that played each year. There's nothing in it about the spirit of the festival, the buildup, the activities, etc, etc. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.191.85.179 (talk) 15:49, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What about splitting this up into separate articles for the separate years then we could give a little more info on each year without it being as long. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wolfmanjess12 (talkcontribs) 16:47, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kanye West

I think maybe something about Kanye West being two hours late should be mentioned. Unacceptable! (24.151.205.134 (talk) 01:30, 16 June 2008 (UTC))[reply]

They added it, although it says the stage was set up by 3:30am, which isn't true. I got bored at left at 4:00am and they were still screwing with the ridiculous set (I've even got pictures of that cluster f---). I'd change it, but the last time I did that on wikipedia, someone bit my head off because they said it was independent research... -GamblinMonkey (talk) 02:14, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What is written about Kanye West right now is something that is full of total speculation, opinion, false statements, and someone who can't spell criticize. That whole thing should be deleted until some better info comes in, but don't worry i fixed it.-Macpops (talk) 10:04, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

I also did some editing on this section today, as well as adding some SuperJam information.Rhinowing (talk) 01:21, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

citing live recordings/superjam

Are live recordings (ie bootlegs) considered citeable sources? It would greatly help with fleshing out information regarding this year's superjam. Additionally, I believe that information about the past superjams should be added back into the page, as they are separately billed and have in at least one case (2007) been announced prior to the festival.
