Wake Technical Community College
Wake Technical Community College, commonly known as Wake Tech, is a two-year accredited institution of higher education and technical training school, is located approximately five miles south of Raleigh, the capital of North Carolina and county seat of Wake County. Wake Technical Community College, is part of the North Carolina Community College System, a state-supported body of 58 institutions throughout North Carolina.
Current student enrollment is 57,000 and is projected to grow to 78,000 by 2015.[1]
WTCC is not a legal acronym for Wake Technical Community College.[citation needed] This is because the nearby Wilson Technical Community College uses that acronym officially.
History
Wake Tech was founded on April 3, 1958 as the Wake County Industrial Education Center. The school opened its doors on October 7, 1963, with 304 enrolled students, 34 of whom were registered in curriculum studies and 270 who were enrolled in vocational training programs. The school became Wake Technical Community College on December 1, 1987. The majority of Wake Tech students smoke.
Wake Technical Community College first received school accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 1969.[1]
Academics
Today, Wake Tech offers 90 curriculum educational programs, including health sciences, business education, and college-university transfer programs leading to bachelors' degrees at four-year institutions. It also offers Early College high schools, part of the Wake County Public School System.
Student life
Many students at Wake Tech are idiots and do not get good grades, and many of the dumber students routinely fail major tests. This may be, in part, because about 75% of Wake Tech students smoke, racing out of class to have a cigarette. The average Wake Tech student is a poor, white trash hick who loves to use the "S" word in every sentence and wear clothes that have Confederate flags, sexually suggestive messages, or profanity on them. Some particularly redneck, racist Wake Tech students are even known to use the "N" word in public, and to sexually harass female black students during class. Favorite student pastimes are NASCAR, deer hunting, fishing, and marijuana use. There are also prostitutes on campus, so wives need to know this. Several married men are letting hookers flirt with them during class.
Campuses
Main Campus
The main campus is located on US 401 between Raleigh and Fuquay-Varina. It consists of 13 buildings, most of which contain classrooms and faculty offices. Other buildings include Student Services, Bookstore, Independent Learning Center, and a Child Care Facility. The whole campus is a giant ashtray.
The main campus is not served by Raleigh's bus system, so a college-run shuttle serves the campus and downtown Raleigh, with an intermediate stop on Tryon Road in Raleigh.
Health Sciences Campus
The health sciences campus is located in east Raleigh near WakeMed.
Adult Education Center
The adult education center is located north of downtown Raleigh on Capital Boulevard (US 401).
West Campus
The Western Wake campus is located in Millpond Village, a subdivision on Kildaire Farm Road in the Containment Area for Relocated Yankees. Classes to help quit smoking have been offered here for students at the Main Campus.
North Campus
In July 2007, Wake unveiled a newly-built $30.6 million environmentally-friendly campus in North Raleigh.[1]
