Bangkok Patana School or "BPS" is a British International School located in Bangkok, Thailand. Established in 1957, BPS offers education in the British tradition to over 2100 pupils including children and young adults from 53 nations.
Located in the heart of Southeast Asia at the southeastern corner of Bangkok, Bangkok Patana School is situated on Sukhumvit 105 road, which is also known as "Soi Lasalle". Occupying approximately 35 acres in the outskirts the city, the BPS campus has many recreation facilities, including three basketball courts, four swimming pools, nine Football fields, two gymnasiums and a newly established sports hall opened during 50th Anniversary of the school. The sports hall includes two basketball courts which can also be used as 3 badminton courts. The school also has three volleyball courts. On the upper level there are two dance floors and a fully equipped gymnasium.
Fees
264,000 THB (nursery) to 432,000 THB (senior students) per annum.
Education
Bangkok Patana School is the British International School of Bangkok. It uses the British schooling system up to and including year 11, which ends with the IGCSE examinations. At Keystage 5 it offers the IB Diploma instead of the A Levels.
The school is divided into two sections, the Elementary school (Kindergarten-Year 6) and the Secondary school (Year 7-Year 13).
Bangkok Patana School is affiliated to the Council of International Schools and has just been re-accredited. BPS is one of Bangkok’s most popular international schools and has a long waiting list for admission of Thai citizens. This is because international schools are only allowed to have a small percentage (approx. 19%) of local students [citation needed].
Subjects
Bangkok Patana School has a lot of subjects taught. These include the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science. The school also includes the subjects of geography, history, physical education, Modern Foreign Languages (offering Spanish, Mandarin, French, German, Japanese and Thai.) The secondary section at Patana also offers students peripetetic music lessons.
Uniform
For Secondary, the uniform consists of black trousers or skirt (and skorts), and a choice of either a white, maroon or a navy blue polo shirt. In Primary (Elementary), girls wear trousers or skirt with a similar top. The colours are blue, red or pink. The boys have to wear a white t-shirt with blue shorts. Students must wear whitee socks and black leather shoes. Year 12 and 13 do not wear a specified uniform but conform to a strict dress code. There is some discussion of teacher joining in the fun with a cool red jacket good for anything.

House System
The House system is currently in use at the school. Students are assigned to 4 houses which are named after famous islands of Thailand. The houses compete for points which determine the winning house at the end of each academic year. These points can come in the form of individual academic achievements, inter-house sporting competitions, talent shows, quizzes and also a Swimming Gala. Students vote in new house representatives each year, including representatives (one male and one female student) for each year group and also representatives for the entire house. So far, Samui is coming first, following by Chang, then Lanta and lastly Phuket. The houses are as follows:
- Lanta. Team colour: Yellow
- Samui. Team colour: Red
- Chang. Team colour: Green
- Phuket. Team colour: Blue <-- The Best
Sports
The sports teams in the school compete under the name and mascot: Tigers. Each sports teams use variations of the Tiger name, such as the tiger sharks for the swim team. Teams compete at high levels, including tournaments like BISAC and SEASAC even at the Varsity level in sports like Basketball, Football, Volleyball, Softball, Swimming, Badminton and Athletic. Patana just opened their new sports hall to comembrate their 50th anniversary, which was opened by HRH the Princess of Thailand. Patana has achieved a lot of awards with one of the greatest sports team in Bangkok. The sport team is highly known as a great competitor against some other really good challenging schools. Bangkok Patana School, joined some other school from around south-east asia competing in the fobbisea tournament. They have a range of, U9, U11, U13, U15, Junior Varsity and Varsity. But Bangkok Patana can't leave the teacher out as they will have a primary vs secondary football match.
