Shah Jiwana is a town of Jhang District in the Punjab province of Pakistan, it is located on the Jhang-Lalian road at 31°31'13N 72°20'21E.[1] The town is famous nationwide because of the famous saint Hazrat Shah Jiwana who converted many local tribes to Islam (after whom the town has been named).

This town has got importance due to the famous political personalities of National Politics. The famous personalities who come from this town are Syeda Abida Hussain, Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat and Late Hon. Col Syed Abid Hussain.

And its nearest town is Mandi Shah Jiwana on the Jhang Sargodha road.

Syeda Abida Hussain is the daughter of Late Col. Syed Abid Hussain, a distinguished Parliamentarian of Undivided India, who was a member of the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan and a Cabinet Minister (1954-58). She studied at Convent of Jesus & Mary, Lahore, "O" levels at Villa Miramonte, Montreux (Switzerland), ("A" levels) and later obtained a diploma in Fine Arts from Florence (Italy). She is fluent in English, French, Italian and two oriental languages - Punjabi and Urdu. She majored in Economics and Political Science for her B.A. degree (Punjab University).

She is married to Syed Fakhar Imam who, like her, was a Member of the National Assembly. Mr. Imam was Minister for Local Government (1981-83), Speaker of the National Assembly (1985-86) and Federal Minister of Education (1990-93).

Syeda Abida Hussain is mother of three children. Her two daughters, Umme Kulsoom Imam and Sughra Imam graduated from Harvard University, while her son Abid Imam is in his senior year at Yale University. Umme Kulsoom is pursuing business interests, Syeda Sughra Imam was elected Chairperson District Council Jhang in 1998.

Syeda Abida Hussain was elected Member Provincial Assembly (State Legislature) in 1972 for five years. For the next eight years (two terms) she was elected Mayor (Chairman of the District Council) of Jhang.

In 1985, Abida Hussain became the first woman in Pakistan's history to be directly returned in a general election as Member National Assembly. She was re-elected Member National Assembly in 1988. In august 1990, she was appointed the Minister for Information and Broadcasting.

In March 1991, she was appointed Advisor to the Prime Minister for Population Welfare. From November 1991 - April 1993 she served as Ambassador of Pakistan to the United States of America. In 1994, she became Member of the Working Committee of Pakistan Muslim League. In November 1996, she was appointed Federal Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Culture, Sports, Tourism and Women's Development in the Interim Government. In February 1997 she was elected Member National Assembly and was appointed Federal Minister for Population Welfare, Environment, Local Government & Rural Development, Food, Agriculture & Livestock, Women's Development, Social Welfare & Special Education in February 1997. As of July 1997 to April 1999 she was Minister for Population Welfare and Science & Technology.

Abida Hussain's involvement in public affairs began in 1967 when she endowed an income-generating project for rural women in Jhang. Four years later, in 1971 alongwith her mother, she endowed a women's hospital Syed Abid Hussain Memorial Trust Hospital and later (1980) she co-sponsored the Lahore Grammar School for Girls at Lahore and the Abid Hussain Foundation School at Jhang. In 1981, she founded the Crafts Council of Pakistan

Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat

Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat was sworn-in as Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control on 23 November 2002. He was awarded this portfolio shortly after he formed a forward bloc in the Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentary (PPPP). Ten Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians, led by Faisal Hayat, on 14 November 2002 announced their differences with the party policies. The group was also comprised of Rao Sikandar Iqbal, Rais Munir Ahmed, Chaudhry Nooraiz Shakoor Khan, Tanveer Sayed, Malik Zaheer Abbas, Malik Aamir, Khalid Ahmed Khan Lund, Muhammad Raza Hayat Hiraj and Dr. Malik. The forward block, re-named as PPP-Patriots, had started with 10 MNAs and now has risen to 21. Faisal Hayat claimed that many more were ready to join the ranks of PPP-Patriots but he was not opening the floodgates. PPP-Patriots, headed by Defence Minister Rao Sikander Iqbal, have been rewarded with six key ministries including the Defence and Interior Ministries.

Faisal Hayat holds degrees in Masters of Arts and Law and Diploma in Business Management from Kings College London. He has the honour to attend prestigious educational institutions of the country like Aitchison College Lahore, F.C. College Lahore, Government College Lahore and Punjab University. Prior to the present assignment, he served the country as Federal Minister for Commerce, Industries, Local Government, and Senior Minister for Home and Services & General Administration in Punjab Cabinet.

He is one of the seasoned politicians of the country and began his political career 26 years ago when he was elected MNA for the first time on 7 March 1977 and achieved the feat for the fifth time on 10 October 2002 general elections. He defeated close-rival Syeda Abida Hussain by 74674 to 64396 votes. It was battle between two big wigs at NA-88 (Jhang-III); a running family feud featuring Abida Hussain of PML (Q) and Cousin of Faisal Hayat.

The NA-88 is a new constituency and lies on the western bank of river Chenab stretching between Langar Makhdoom in the north and the Trimu Headworks in the south over an area of 130 kms in length. The main biradaris inhabiting the constituency are the Lalis, the Balochs, the Bhatti Nissowanas, the Gilotars, the Syeds, the Sials, the Qureshis, the Khokhars and the Sangras.

Faisal Hayat was also successful on 16 November 1988, 24 October 1990 and 16 October 1993 when the constituency was NA-69 (Jhang-IV) while Abida managed to win on 25 Feb 1985 and 3 Feb 1997.

He was a senior member of Central Executive Committee of PPP and PPPP for the last 15 years (In an effort to skirt legal barriers to participation, the PPP formed a separate entity, the PPPP).
