Alex Pope is an Australian musician and multi-instrumentalist. He has contributed to numerous bands as a guitarist, vocalist, bassist and drummer. Most recently he has been receiving increasingly wide recognition for his black metal project, Ruins.

Pope began his musical career in Hobart, drumming and playing bass in short lived bands such as Marpy Mply, Crunchy, and Ecocide<---confirm with subject as to chronological accuracy--->, before joining Tim Evans in the Sea Scouts[1], as Zach von Bamburger’s replacement on bass and vocals. Pope’s bass playing was highly melodic and extremely distorted by a Metal Zone pedal. Pope also contributed vocally in keeping with the shouted/screamed vocal style[2] that had previously been established by von Bamburger and Evans.

After two albums, a 7” single and an extensive tour of the United States[3]
and Europe, the Sea Scouts disbanded in 2000 and Pope returned to Tasmania.[4]. During this period, Pope contributed vocals to the Vodka Party and Mindless Violence, various noises<--confirm with subject as to preferred instrumentation listing--> to the Deathbed Conversion tapes, and drums in Evil Dead under the pseudonym of “Hot Rod”[5] <---confirm with subject names of any Evil Dead tape releases---> After the dissolution of Evil Dead, Pope continued to work with the guitarist Luke Ray in the Rend Asunder. This project was disbanded when Ray relocated to Tokyo, where he currently plays in the death metal band, Detritum.

Pope began collaborating with Dave Haley of Psycroptic on a black metal project, titled Ruins. This is Pope's current project, and it has produced three CD releases, and toured extensively throughout Australia. <---confirm with subject, NZ?--->
