Reto Zanni (born 9 February, 1980) is a Swiss football player of Italian descent who currently plays for FC Basel in the Swiss Super League.

Football career

Zanni started off playing football for SC Buochs and then was scouted by Grasshopper-Club Zürich subsequently starting his professional career with Grasshopper-Club Zürich in 1998 at the age of 18. He started out in the youth squad, where he played for 2 years until he was 20. He was eventually brought into the full squad after a few injuries in the team. He played well on his debut and kept his place in the team. He went on to play 46 times for the Grasshopper, scoring 1 goal. He left the club in 2003 after 5 years at the club. During the his last but not the least season he was on loan at FC St. Gallen where he played 28 games, but while he returned to Grasshopper, he just played once.

He joined FC Thun in 2003 where he broke into the first team immediately. During his time at Thun he rose to be one of the team's best players and there were rumours that some Bundesliga and Serie A teams were interested in him. He stayed and kept playing well for 1 and a half seasons until 2004.

Swiss giants FC Basel signed him on 15 January 2005. He broke into the first team there almost immediately. Despite playing a key part in the FC Basel first team he has surprisingly not yet played for Switzerland.
