Europe Program

Kevin,

I am not sure if the changes I did was what you meant. In the state you left it seemed like the summary written before was for the program you mentioned. I also think we should put a bit more info on this program, but not sure. What do you think?

Thanks, Miguel.mateo (talk) 12:19, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah your right I did notice it but I don't know why I didn't change it lol (thanks for changing it), If you want to put more info on the program the reference site has info on which countries participated in the program for 2006 & 2007 and I'm sure the info for the other years is available somewhere.

It would be nice to know when, why and who started the program in the first place but I haven't done any research on that.Kevin hipwell (talk) 13:43, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Will ask in some of the forums that we participate ... Miguel.mateo (talk) 13:58, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:2006 Luxembourg 20 150 years Council of State obverse.JPG)

Thanks for uploading Image:2006 Luxembourg 20 150 years Council of State obverse.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Your question

You asked me about collection of coins, I answered here NobbiP (talk) 16:18, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey mate, very good catch, I am so used to the article that I do not see obvious issues like this one. BTW, I know you want to finish all articles first and then concentrate on the other stuff, but what do you think about the process Belgium has been through? Is it worth to work on all articles towards this goal? Miguel.mateo (talk) 14:20, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Of course the goal of any article is to become FA/FL better still part of a FT, If the article fills all criteria I have no objection to it becoming a FA/FL and I think its great that your working on the articles to meet the FA/FL criteria.
Personally I would not have done such work untill all articles where finished because I would have prioritized Quantity over Quality in a "get it out there" attitude.
I think the articles have reached a point where the input/output return on Quality and Quantity have been equalized and you where fast on the mark.
I really do hope the article reaches FL because it will be a first big win for our contributions on this topic.
I know things have been a little quite recently but I will help in the process where I can and I never planned to abandon this project untill all articles where FA/FL.Kevin hipwell (talk) 15:00, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The main reason I wanted a small article like Belgium to go through this process was to learn what the process is and what are we lacking off. I took several notes of the so many things we have to change to meet FL criteria, and I think is better we have that in mind when building the new articles that are missing (like the format of the dates, the use of mm and inches in the measures ... etc.) I will continue contributing to the other articles to fill the information is missing and getting them in shape, I might submit a few of the current articles to the FL process (I do think Austria, Finland and Ireland are almost there), but one by one and little by little, I do not want to over flow ;) Thanks for your constant help! Hi there Kevin,
I was wondering if you can take a quick look at the previous article nomination, and considering that your comments have been address (some of them by yourself), if you can help either supporting or denying this promotion. Thanks by the way for the good feedback.

Image Union

Well...now I know where to go for my "image/imaging" questions! There should be a BIG sign on Wikiroute66, "got an Image Problem????---see Kevin hipwell". Thanks so much for your guidance, I retreaved/moved your reply to my talk so I have it available. I still have some previous box in the way that prevents the "table" from working ( it's overlapping)...(which,come to think of it is, kinda cool, artistically!) But, like I told Mateo...I need to understand whats happening so that I can control it. Which I don't now. Thanks for your time.--Buster7 (talk) 21:09, 18 July 2008 (UTC) From what I can tell, when an editor sets up a gallery, the images chosen "size" themselves, uniformally. AND, when a table is requested, the editor changes the pixel setting to 350 for each image. Is that correct? Thanks..--Buster7 (talk) 22:30, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

when you use gallery the size is automatic, the table you can set any size for images.Kevin hipwell (talk) 02:52, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Kevin...when you get a moment could you visit my user page. Somehow (vandalism, retaliation, bots-at-work (those little devils!)) I have lost many images from my page. Even when I go back into the History pages they are gone. Was there a fee that I didn't pay?? LOL.
I would like to get them back but I don't know how. I was beginning a "redesign" but I'm sure I didn't delete the Images in question. Any help or advice is appreciated.--Buster7 (talk) 16:40, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Buster, I'm not sure what pictures you are referring to. Kevin hipwell (talk) 20:03, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmmmmmmm!!! now that IS strange. 1/2 were gone this morning (I Swear!)... now they are back....thanks for the visit, kevin.--Buster7 (talk) 22:24, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Beethoven portrait

Hello Kevin,

I can't find a really solid source, but this web page:

http://www.lvbeethoven.com/Portraits/GalleryPortraits.html

suggests you were probably correct to revert to Riedel. Boch evidently made a later copy. Opus33 (talk) 23:09, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Categories

Please be sure to use Category:Coins of the Eurozone not the head category if you are doing any more articles. Johnbod (talk) 18:30, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand what you mean by "head category" can you explain further?Kevin hipwell (talk) 23:48, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You were using Category:Coins, the head or parent category. Johnbod (talk) 22:20, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
in the case of the Germany article I did not add this category, although it is possible I added it on the other articles, I understand your concern and I will make efforts to ensure this doesn't happen again.Kevin hipwell (talk) 22:57, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks - I didn't check all the histories of course. Johnbod (talk) 23:04, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Euro Information Website Forum

Here is the link: http://www.ibiblio.org/theeuro/InformationWebsite.htm?http://www.ibiblio.org/theeuro/forum/ ... you might want to join, and I am sure I can request to promote you to Moderator, if you interested. This is a new forum, just a few days life, based on the site that I am sure you know. I bet my bonus, that the information being provided by some of the other moderators is very useful for you. Take a look, subscribe if you want and let me know what you think about moderator-ship.

Thanks, Miguel.mateo (talk) 01:51, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

PS. Looking at that swappers forum now ...

Thanks Miguel for the info, I have set up an account with the forum (no posts yet), I have much fate in the success of this forum, I think The€ has done well to set up this forum as his website is very popular, I look forward to using it.Kevin hipwell (talk) 02:13, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Miguel, I am not hugely enthusiastic about a moderator position however where I to choose a forum it would certainly be this one, if a position is open and there are no objections then I will fill it and see how things go.Kevin hipwell (talk) 02:25, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I also have a lot of fate into it, the information about circulating coins is coming right from the source, so who's better? About moderating, the main advantage is that there is a section for moderators which so far is about bugs of the forum, but very good information had surface out of it, like this site for example: http://www.euro-master.eu/Mainpage/Mainpage-e.htm Miguel.mateo (talk) 02:47, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
yes thats a very good website, I contacted euro-master regarding using his images for a euro coin BU sets article but he never got back to me.Kevin hipwell (talk) 02:57, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
On that topic, I have a lead that I am following. It seems to be, although I am confirming, that images of current coins and bills (images like an scan, not pictures) they are copyright free since they are legal tender on the issuing country, and as such the govermnet does not give copyrights to the artists creating the design. If this turn to be true, we have a big break in our goal, since we no longer need permissions or fair-use rationales to use the images. I will keep you posted.
But the previous site can at least be used toi check from completenes, do we have listed all coins of France for example? That could be very good information to finish the summary tables. Miguel.mateo (talk) 03:11, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Market value gone from the Ireland article

Hi Kelvin,

What happen that you decided to remove "Market value"? We agreed long time ago that this information will be very useful, we just needed to find it and fill it.

Thanks, Miguel

Yes sorry, its just temporary, the info for where the coins are minted was available and there where currently no market values on the Ireland article, I have been trying to think of a way to include the mints any suggestions? Kevin hipwell (talk) 03:27, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

on another note, I've been adding Mintage Quantities to the standard euro articles eg. Austrian euro coins, was hoping for a second opinion (especially on the Germany Euro article German euro coins Kevin hipwell (talk) 03:27, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am catching up now, as you see I just read the changes you did to the Irish article yesterday. I will comment in your proposal and I think it is very valid information and quite useful. Apologies but I have been caught by work and trying to put the image license issue to rest; I've done minor edits recently. Thanks, Miguel.mateo (talk) 03:53, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I have seen your work on the Images GJ, I was wondering if Euro-Master is also allowing the images from the sets and the mintage quantities for wikipedia.Kevin hipwell (talk) 03:56, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think so, he is explicitely say that he does not mind his images being used at all by Wikipedia and anyone that downloads them from Wikipedia. As far as we reference his site, it is fine. He will be sending me the originals via e-mail since downloading the images from his site is a bit of trouble. Thanks, Miguel.mateo (talk) 07:15, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Change in the layout ...

Hi Kevin,

You have mentioned this in the past and today it caought my attention again. What is the information you want to add? Can you put some samples to have an idea of the length of the info? Then let's discuss the layout change and as you know I think I can help to do that "sort of" automatically to all the pages.

Thanks, Miguel.mateo (talk) 06:51, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The adding of the place of mint for each coin (as done on the Ireland G&S article), However I don't want market value to be lost so it will require a cell of its own, I'm just wondering what would be the best way to fit it in, I haven't thought of any new layout yet (I'm hoping for one with least impact on the current design) so was hoping for opinions. -Kevin hipwell (talk) 11:28, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Kevin, do you have a couple of samples of what the Mint values will be? I just want to know the potential length of this new cell. I will figure out some thing and will share it with you as long as I know that information. Thanks, Miguel.mateo (talk) 13:15, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure what the potential length will be.

I have been messing around with .the table, tell me what you think of this one.

Original:

New Design:

Mint: Just in case the name of the mint is long
The obverse depicts the Irish harp surrounded by the names of the ten accession countries in their own official languages

Still not sure bout it though.Kevin hipwell (talk) 20:48, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kevin,
I think is important to consider that 'topic' is usually long and very important to be seen easily (I have had comments about a coin that it is obvious that people did not read the topic section and went straight to the description, things like "why is Bethooven not wikilinked in the description?", when it is obvious is wikilinked in the topic). Based on that I would suggest this one:

Topic: European Union Accession
Designer: Thomas Emmet Mullins & Paul Regan Mint: Just in case the name of the mint is long
Value: €10 Alloy: Ag 925 Quantity: 50,000 Quality: Proof
Issued: 08.04.2004 Diameter: 38.61mm Weight: 28.28g Market Value: €€€€
The obverse depicts the Irish harp surrounded by the names of the ten accession countries in their own official languages

The reverse design features a swan nesting ten eggs representing the EU welcoming ten new countries into the fold

What do you think? The mint house and the designers together looks like a nice touch and then we do not need that many lines to represent the old information plus the mint. Miguel.mateo (talk) 02:17, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Although they may have skipped the topic there is a rule on wikilinking titles (I don't think the rule applied to these types of headings but it does look better when the links are in the description IMO).
I do think your design is better and easier to work with, what do you think of highlighting the Topic like this:

European Union Accession
Designer: Thomas Emmet Mullins & Paul Regan Mint: Just in case the name of the mint is long
Value: €10 Alloy: Ag 925 Quantity: 50,000 Quality: Proof
Issued: 08.04.2004 Diameter: 38.61mm Weight: 28.28g Market Value: €€€€
The obverse depicts the Irish harp surrounded by the names of the ten accession countries in their own official languages

The reverse design features a swan nesting ten eggs representing the EU welcoming ten new countries into the fold

note: removing the word "Topic" was not a mistake.Kevin hipwell (talk) 03:18, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely love it, want to do a test in a real article to see how it looks? Miguel.mateo (talk) 03:23, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Since the Ireland article recently lost its Market Value info I'll try it out on that one.Kevin hipwell (talk) 03:26, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Made the changes, let me know what you think. Kevin hipwell (talk) 03:51, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I definitely like it, will try the Belgian article in a few minutes which is complete and it is not too big either. Do you the mint house for Belgium? It should be the Royal Belgian Mint for all the coins I think. Miguel.mateo (talk) 04:06, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Royal Belgian Mint is the correct name, although I have no reason to think the coins are minted elsewhere I have not yet found anything explicitly stating that the Royal Belgian Mint minted all the coins. Kevin hipwell (talk) 04:34, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I just changed teh first section of Belgium, what do you think? Shall I proceed? Miguel.mateo (talk) 05:18, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You two are fantastic. Your efforts will be rewarded with approval, I am sure. I just happenned to be in Belgium, miguel, as you were working on the coins I was working on my favorite..."steek mit frietten"... Best of Luck... Your hard work and attention to detail will be a standard for other editors to strive for.--Buster7 (talk) 05:42, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Miguel, I noticed you are changing each entry individually?, you would be better off using word processor or the similar for the "replace" function.
Cheers Buster, hope your having fun in Belgium.
yes it looks much better. Kevin hipwell (talk) 05:50, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Done already. Kevin, I was just doing a test with that section since the Belgium article has longer information (the convert template for example) I wanted to see first how it looks. But since it did look nice, I went ahead and changed the whole article.
PS 2. Dude, ain't you gonna sleep? You have another private msg in the euro information fourm ;)
Sorry I missed to bold the topic cell, I missed the ! charatcer for a | one, thanks for checking that. Miguel.mateo (talk) 07:23, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

BELGIUM 50th anniversary of the catastrophe Bois du Cazier at Marcinelle coin version

Hi Kevin,

You surprise me with this change. Are you sure we have two coins one in silver only and the other one in silver and cupper? Please show me the sources, I do not know how I missed that when checking Belgium.

Thanks, Miguel

The source is the euro master website. Kevin hipwell (talk) 04:09, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
here is another source. Kevin hipwell (talk) 04:11, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
for good measure here is a website selling the silver one and here selling the silver with copper one.Kevin hipwell (talk) 04:15, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, we learn something new every day ;) Miguel.mateo (talk) 06:22, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't yet changed the summary. Kevin hipwell (talk) 06:43, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
True, I forgot, will do that now in the Belgian article and in the main article ... men, it will be seriously tough to collect French coins! Miguel.mateo (talk) 06:48, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
One tiny confirmation, would you count that as silver or as others (considering it has cupper on it) I would like to put it in others for the sake that Belgium does not mint "others", but we could say that as long as any other metal is used, then is "Others" ... what do you think?
We will have the same problem for coins that are made of silver and gold ... Miguel.mateo (talk) 06:56, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I would consider it a Silver coin, I don't see benefit from moving the coin to an "others" section, Also you have explained in the prose that these articles mainly in gold and silver, although other precious metals are also used in rare occasions . Silver will it be then ;) Updating now ... Miguel.mateo (talk) 07:03, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You where referring to the Summary no wonder I was confused, even so I think the coin is a Silver coin Kevin hipwell (talk) 07:09, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
