Continue protection

Samir, if I'm calculating it correctly, your block on Clarence Thomas will expire 1/22/09 06:12 GMT (1:12 EST). With that in mind, earlier today, I filed a request at WP:RFP that the protection be extended pending the outcome of mediation (or at least medcab) since the continuing attitude of the other editor involved (on the article talk page, on talk:William Rehnquist, and at the medcab case) suggests strongly that he will resume the revert war as soon as the page is unprotected. [1] The reviewing admin suggested that I should instead contact you qua the protecting admin for this request (apologies for any breach of wikiquette on this point). Could you review the linked request, please? Simon Dodd (talk) 22:19, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for extending this, per your note. You mention going to formal mediation, but I'm wondering if the problem here goes beyond that one article. Garcia is behaving the same way (POV, ownership, surly intransigence) at William Rehnquist (see also the talk page for that article); instead of going through the same full dress mediation at that article, too, with the same result, is there anything that can be done to deal with this problem at the user level rather than the article level? I looked at Wikipedia:Requests for comment#Request comment on users, Wikipedia:Problem_users, and Wikipedia:Wikiquette alerts, but none of them seem entirely appropriate. Any suggestions? Simon Dodd (talk) 12:09, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

(undent)Can the article at least be semi-protected, please? That would prevent vandalsim and edit-warring by IPs.Ferrylodge (talk) 19:39, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RfA thanks

Thank you for voting in my RfA, which passed with 80 support, 2 oppose, and 1 neutral. I appreciate all the comments I received and will endeavor to justify the trust the community has placed in me. R'n'B (call me Russ) 21:38, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mediation

Per your suggestion at Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/2009-01/Clarence Thomas, I filed a mediation request at Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Clarence Thomas. But formal mediation requires the consent of all parties, and here, the problem party has refused to give it, writing - incredibly and entirely falsely - that the matter is settled. That's not even a misrepresentation, it's an outright lie; no progress has been made since before the medcab dispute was even filed, let alone since the mediation request was filed. Is wikipedia completely impotent in the face of this kind of intransigence? What can happen next, short of taking the matter to arbcom? Simon Dodd (talk) 02:05, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand your reply. "Indicating there is no dispute at the time of mediation usually means acceptance of all the other parties say on the mediation page" - quite so, but there isn't :a satisfactory resolution to all [or even any of the] issues...." The other party has simply stonewalled any attempt to find consensus. How can I post a diff where such consensus was made when it doesn't exist?Simon Dodd (talk) 03:54, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see what you're driving at - done. Thanks. :) Simon Dodd (talk) 04:10, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, he reverted again, and I've noted it on the mediation page. We'll see what happens next. Simon Dodd (talk) 05:09, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
This is not correct. I did not revert; I edited to a new version in light of our Medcab discussion. RafaelRGarcia (talk) 05:11, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Without commenting on reversions or what content should be in the article: (1) I think there are issues that are disagreed upon on Clarence Thomas; and, (2) I agree that it is probably best if this goes for mediation. I will crosspost on the mediation talk page -- Samir 05:18, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RE:Christopher Marshall (doctor)

Thanks! It would be longer but I couldn't find any more usable info. I'm writing another article in the same vein; it is for a Featured List I am working on. Ironholds (talk) 06:49, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, thank you for your comment. It's a spin-off from Early Cuban bands, which I beavered on last year. I'll have a think about your suggestion, though I'm not sure there's much of a market for the history of Cuban music! Regards, Macdonald-ross (talk) 07:44, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I did not block 63.175.18.130 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) because he did not sign his comments on his talk page. I blocked him because he perpetually refused to sign anywhere. If I could find where it was brought up on AN or ANI I would show you it.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 07:25, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Heterosexuality

Please show me where I am, because honestly I have looked over the page and I can't see it. All I am seeing is 78,000+ words missing and a POV version in it's place and nothing about "the other side" that is there in the version currently up. - NeutralHomerTalk • February 1, 2009 @ 08:24

Well....I royally f***ed that one up didn't I? *sigh* Time to go eat my hat. Thanks. - NeutralHomerTalk • February 1, 2009 @ 08:28
I just apologized. Not sure how I missed that. I gotta slow down and start checking these things out before handing out warnings. Oh yeah, I resended those too. Thanks for showing my error. You can take down the protection to the page if you like. Take Care....NeutralHomerTalk • February 1, 2009 @ 08:34

thank you

My RFA passed today at 150/48/6. I wanted to thank you for weighing in on the RFA--I will do everything I can to uphold the policies of this site, and try to make it a better place. All the comments, questions, and in particular the opposes I plan to work on and learn from, so that I can hopefully always do the right thing with the huge trust given to me. rootology (C)(T) 08:32, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RfA thanks

Thank you for the trust you placed in me by supporting my RfA (which passed and, apparently, I am now an admin!). I will do my best to continue to act in a way that is consistent with the policies of wikipedia as well with our common desire to build and perfect this repository of human knowledge; and can only hope that you never feel that your trust was misplaced. Thanks again! --Regent's Park (Rose Garden) 23:43, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Samir, can I ask you a favour

Hey Samir, I hope you've been well. If you remember I created the image below for you back in 2006 when I was an undergraduate Biochemist.

File:CoeliacDisease.png

I've graduated and am now a medical student. The reason I'm getting in touch is I'm applying to the Association of Medical Illustrators for professional membership. As part of my application I need to obtain two written/signed references to prove that I have been creating medical illustrations over the last 5 years. (Basically to prove I'm not applying to the association on a whim, but rather am a committed medical illustrator)

I hate to ask as I recall how busy you were, but would you be willing to provide a signed letter saying that you are aware that I created medical illustrations back in 2006 and that they were to a medically high standard? I promise it won't take more than a few minutes to sort out. Heres the AMI website if you're interested in more info http://www.ami.org/ and the stuff specifically relating to membership is at: https://timssnet2.allenpress.com/ECOMAMI/timssnet/web/membership/mem_app.cfm

If you'd be happy to do this for me, can you drop me an email at n.daines@study-medicine.co.uk and I will let you know more. I also have a ton more artwork you may be interested in!

All the best,

Nick (wikipedianprolific)
