Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs also known as Ice Age 3 is an upcoming computer animated film that will be the third installment of the Ice Age film series. It was announced and approved by Fox & Paramount Pictures president Hutch Parker on January 30, 2007. It will be released in RealD where available. It was initially slated for a December 25, 2008 release, but the scheduled release date has since been moved to July 1, 2009.The film is being produced by Blue Sky Studios and will be distributed by 20th Century Fox & Paramount Pictures.
Plot
Manny (Ray Romano), Sid (John Leguizamo), Diego (Denis Leary), Ellie (Queen Latifah), Eddie (Josh Peck), Crash (Seann William Scott) and Scrat encounter a dinosaur, reptile, and amphibian population which survived extinction in its tropical paradise, which existed below the thick layers... until now. Meanwhile, Crash and Eddie are up to their usual crazy selves. Manny and Ellie have since become an item and are going to have their first baby, and Manny wants everything to be perfect when his baby arrives. Diego is tired of being treated like a "House-cat" and ponders the notion that he's being too laid back. Sid starts to wish for a family of his own, and so steals some dinosaur eggs which leads his herd to go and to try to rescue him while dodging dinosaurs and facing danger left and right; they also meet up with a new friend who's a one-eyed weasel known as Buck (Simon Pegg), who hunts Dinosaurs intently. Scrat also meets a squirrel named Scratte and could find a possible romance with her.
Teaser
First Trailer
The trailer (same as the teaser mentioned above) opens amidst a blizzard. Scrat is trying to get through it, when he notices his acorn. During his struggles to reach it, he is engulfed in snow and frozen. He manages to pop open his eyes, using them to lean himself toward the acorn. He successfully pulls it out, releasing warm gases from beneath the ice, which thaws Scrat. Feeling around with his foot, he discovers he has made a large hole in the ice, and falls through. After hitting a few trees, he slides down to the tip of a scaly back and tail, losing his acorn. He slides down to the tip of the tail as it rises, coming face to face with a Tyrannosaurus rex. The end of the trailer shows the Tyrannosaurus rex roaring at Scrat and cuts to the inside of the dinosaur's mouth, where Scrat is seen, his eyes twitching before the Tyrannosaurus rex's mouth snaps shut. This trailer was seen with the movie Horton Hears a Who!.
Second Trailer
The second trailer opens on a snowy scene as Scrat delightedly spies his acorn at the top of a nearby cliff. Scrat scrambles up a vine and then up the cliff, but once he gets to the top, the acorn is gone. He peeks from behind a tree to see, as the strains of Lou Rawls's "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine" swell in the background, an astonishing vision. Surprise and growing interest conflict within him as he regards a fetching red female saber-toothed squirrel with long fluttery eyelashes and a flirtatious manner (officially known as Scratte). Scrat gets in touch with his priorities, however, and sneaks up to the acorn, but Scratte is no fool and they both grab the acorn. Surprised, Scrat jerks the acorn away from Scratte and starts to stalk off, but stops when he hears quiet whimpering - Scratte is crying. He turns around and offers the acorn to Scratte. She takes it, but Scrat doesn't let go. He wants her to have the acorn, but he also wants it himself.
Scratte and Scrat each start tugging at the acorn, when Scratte suddenly loses her grasp and flies off the cliff. Scrat bravely dives off of the cliff to save her. He reaches her in midair, and holds out the acorn like a life-fire. They both singe opposite sides of the acorn and you see them from above as if they were skyscrapersly, Scratte, who reveals herself to be a flying squirrel, winks slyly at poor Scrat, opens her "wings" and glides. She is holding the acorn, and poor Scrat continues to fall, bereft. He tries to stretch his skin into wings, and falls to the ground, leaving a heart-shaped cloud.
Third Trailer
The third trailer shows a series of many clips from the film giving away some of the plot. Audiences are introduced with the dinosaur eggs Sid found, Scrat is once again in another situation with his acorn and new character Scratte. At the beginning of the trailer, it shows a T-Rex, about to attack. Manny then says, "Nobody move a muscle." Everyone stands still as a statue, except for one molehog, who runs screaming. The dinosaur then roars loudly. In an attempt to rescue hapless Sid,the herd stumbles upon a new world. Ellie is the first to notice. It then shows the same T-rex attemping to eat Sid, but Sid gets shoved up his nose instead. The trailer also reveals Sid finding the dinosaur eggs. Also, it turns out carnivore dinosaurs aren't the only vicious dinos. The next scene shows an Ankylosaurus about to attack Diego, Manny and Ellie. Scrat and Scratte are still battling it out for the acorn. The next scene shows Scrat getting stuck to a broken tree, falling with acorn stuck to his chest by tree sap. Scratte then twirls the trunk around and flirtatiously ripps the acorn off Scrat's chest. The final scene shows the baby dinos crying. Sid then attemps to milk a male Euceratherium, but is chased away while screaming, "I thought you were a female!" (The trailer fails to mention that Ellie is pregnant, which is a big part of the movie though.)
