Jeannie Ortega

Jeannette Ortega (born November 19, 1986 in Bushwick, Brooklyn, New York) is a Puerto Rican-American recording artist, actress, dancer, and songwriter.

Biography

Ortega was a member of the first graduating class of Brooklyn's High School of The Arts, along with long time friend Stickz Greenz. In her youth, she performed at local parks as “Spice,” (one half of a kiddie singing group she called “Sugar & Spice”) and numerous times throughout her school years.

At age sixteen, Ortega had her first real recording, and it was placed on the soundtrack for the movie Love Don't Cost a Thing. She later received a major recording deal with Hollywood Records and released her debut album, No Place Like BKLYN on August 1, 2006. Her debut single is the hip-hop influenced "Crowded," which features Papoose. She has also finished work on a film called Step Up starring Mario and Channing Tatum.

On July 29, 2006 Nina Sky, Papoose, Eric West, Kovas, Quan and Stickz Greenz, her speculated boyfriend at the time, were some of the artists who showed up for the release party for Ortega's debut album at Webster Hall in New York City.[1] On August 10, 2006 the album entered the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart at No.1.[2]

In August 2008 Ortega joined Rihanna as the opening act for her world-tour. [3] I admire her so much, Rihanna said of Ortega. She's a sweetheart and she is so grateful to be on tour with me and that's what I love. She's gonna kill it. [4].
