Charlotte McDonagh (born 6 September 1984 in Edgware, London, England) is a highly trained British actress, model, dancer, singer and TV Presenter best known for her role as Lisa West in Grange Hill.

Career

Charlotte McDonagh's career on stage, television and within the music industry started when she was aged just 3. She found her voice at an extremely young age when performing in London's West End in Annie, Get Your Gun and later Les Miserable.

McDonagh later performed as a dancer for Michael Jackson.

McDonagh's first television acting role was in Paul Merton in Galton and Simpson's.... She joined the long-running children's show Grange Hill aged thirteen in 1997 as Lisa West. She left the show in 2002.

McDonagh also appeared as a guest film reviewer on the now defunct Live & Kicking in 1999 and had a cameo on Child Stars in 2001. She also played Kristy in Fairytale Heart, which aired on BBC One in 2001.

She has also had roles in pantomimes Jack and the Beanstalk (2001) and Aladdin (2003)[1]

McDonagh next presented on Nickelodeon before having a brief stint presenting CBBC.

In November 2002, McDonagh appeared in an episode of The Bill as Kirsty, a friend of Samantha Nixon's missing daughter, Abbie. A year later, she appeared in BBC daytime soap Doctors as Sally Adams. In 2003, she played Joanne in Roughnecks.

Charlotte then starred in Coming Up in the summer of 2003, playing the role of Kirsty in one episode.[2]

In 2004, she also played Donna in the CBBC show Kerching! and appeared in the Channel 4 film Matchmaker as Kerry.[3]

In January 2004 McDonagh joined the girl group REDD. Promoted as Mike Stock's latest group, the girls toured extensively, made the national press & recorded a single, later recorded by Katerine Avgoustakis "Here Come All the Boys".[4] However when Girls Aloud then recorded a conveniently similar video for Long Hot Summer which managed to hit music channels first, the single was delayed. REDD were then forced to record a second video, however with the group's planned summer release having to be delayed, REDD subsequently disbanded.[5]

As part of REDD Charlotte supported Lemar, Liberty X & many others on the UK gig & festival circuit.


In late 2005 Charlotte toured with UK dance act Uniting Nations performing across Europe to over 35,000 fans. She also worked as a backing singer for Irish boyband Westlife.

McDonagh appeared in EastEnders in December 2005 as Stacey Slater's former friend Abby.

In January 2007, McDonagh starred as Sharon in two episodes of Lynda La Plante's Trial & Retribution.

McDonagh has also starred in a number of television commercials including those for Bliss, The Observer, McDonald's and an anti drinking campaign.[6]

In October 2007 she filmed a role in Ashgate Productions and Elliott Seller's short-film 'Lucky-Dip-Pick-N-Mix' along with an accompanying music video for the film entitled 'Endless Days' by Jonny Taylor.[7]

In February 2008 Charlotte presented coverage from the Lingere and Swimwear Exhibition 2008, in Harrogate, North Yorkshire in which she interviewed a number of guests including Caprice and Miss England 2007 Georgia Horsley.

She has also presented The Smash Hits Tour.

In October 2008 Charlotte began presenting a digital bingo station, and in December 2008 Charlotte returned to TV screens, sporting a new brunette hairstyle, as the new presenter on a lifestyle/chat show called "The Chat" on Sky Television and Freeview channel SmileTV. It involves heavily on viewers interaction with the presenters. And airs weekdays.[8]

In December 2008 Charlie posted her presenters showreeel on YouTube.[9]

Since 2007 Charlotte has been involved in both promotional and glamour modelling. She also modelled for a number of catalogue companys including Freemans and Littlewoods when she was younger.

Personal life

She once dated former Grange Hill co-star Rob Stuart who played Matt Singleton. Charlie is a talented musician and planned a solo career after the group REDD split. McDonagh is currently signed to McLean/Williams talent agency for actors, situated in London.[10] As of 2008 she is also signed to Universal Model Management Ltd.[11] In February 2009 Charlie began working on a music demo, with plans to launch her as a huge solo singer over the next 12 months.[12]
