Untitled

Intuition is the third studio album by actor and R&B singer Jamie Foxx. It was released on December 16, 2008 in the United States under J Records.[1] The album reached the top three on the U.S. Billboard 200 album charts, and #1 on the Top U.S. R&B/Hip Hop Albums Charts, which it topped for six consecutive weeks. The album has been certified gold by the RIAA (Recording Industry Of America), with over 700,000 sales. The album features several guest artists, including rappers Lil Wayne, Kanye West, T-Pain, T.I., and The-Dream.

Production

Album concept

Intuition, as Foxx describes it, will focus on the needs and wants of the opposite sex. "On my radio show I have this panel of beautiful women and they were talking about how men with a lot of money aren't all that. But if a guy has no money, that's no good either,” Foxx explained. So I was thinking, 'What does a woman want? We go from there and build the story and the songs."[2]

Singles

The first single, "Just Like Me", was released on November 11, 2008. It debuted at number 48 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and peaked at number 8.[3] It also peaked at #49 on the Billboard 100. The second single is a remix of Ne-Yo's "Miss Independent," entitled "She Got Her Own". The third single is "Blame It", which features T-Pain and was produced by Christopher "Deep" Henderson. In the first week of February, "Just Like Me", "Blame It", and "She Got Her Own" charted on the Top 10 in Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs at #8, #1, and #2, respectively. Since then the album has been RIAA certified Platinum.

Chart performance

The album debuted at number three on the U.S. Billboard 200, selling 265,000 copies in its first week.[4] It has currently sold about 681,447 copies so far, going certified gold.[5] The album stayed in the Billboard 200 top 10 for the first 2 months it was released.[6] Intuition has sold over 1,000,000 copies in the U.S. alone, As of April 22nd, 2009.

Critical reception

The album has received generally mixed reviews. [7] The Boston Globe reviewed the album positively, stating: "Like many contemporary R&B albums, the cameos sometimes crowd the main attraction, but Foxx is wise enough to intuit when it suits him best to share the spotlight."[8] VIBE had a mixed review for the album, stating: "What is missing from Intuition is a balance between the party records and the slow jams. The division displays a lack of cohesiveness that separates the effort from being a great album into just a collection of potential singles."[9]

However, Emily Heward of musicomh.com, was less impressed with the album, commenting: "[Intuition's songs are] lost amidst over-enthusiastic vocal effects" and that "it is hard to recognize the soulful voice that landed him his Oscar."[10]
