Lil Wyte

Patrick Lanshaw[1], better known by his stage name Lil Wyte, is an American rapper from Memphis, Tennessee. He is a member of the rap collective Hypnotize Minds.

Early life

Lil Wyte was born in North Memphis. He started participating in freestyle battles at Westside High School when he was in ninth grade. Lil Wyte rapped with his friend "Lil Black", who inspired him to use a pseudonym Lil Wyte and write songs instead of freestyling.[2]

Lil Wyte dropped out of high school twice due to truancy. He eventually went back and earned his high school diploma from Westside High School in Memphis, Tennessee.[3]

Music career

Lil Wyte appeared on Project Pat's song "Crash da Club" from his album Layin' da Smack Down in 2002.[1]

Wyte was a member of an all-white hip hop group, when he first came to the attention of Three 6 Mafia. Juicy J and DJ Paul signed the rapper after the group's disbanding and worked later with his debut album.[4]

Lil Wyte's debut album Doubt Me Now was released in 2003 and it became an underground hit among fans, selling over 350,000+ copies without any promotion.[2][5] Lil Wyte signed a record deal with Asylum Records and recorded second album Phinally Phamous. It was released in October 2004 and sold nearly 200,000 copies.[5]

His style was described as quick-rapping,[4] "machine gun-like delivery".[1] Lil Wyte described his style: "I've always felt like I was a pretty complex rapper to be from the South - I feel like I put a lot into my music."[5]

After three years of touring, promoting and recording his third studio album The One and Only was released in 2007.[5]

Lil Wyte's fourth album The Bad Influence is scheduled to be released sometime in July 2009.[6]
