Before I Self Destruct will be the fourth studio album by rapper 50 Cent, his final solo release in his current contract with Interscope Records, excluding a "greatest hits" album.[1][2] It is set to be released in Fall 2009.

Background

Initially, Before I Self Destruct was planned to be 50 Cent's 2007 album,[3] however, he decided to release Curtis instead, and thus Before I Self Destruct's release date was originally pushed back to 2008.

In a red carpet interview 50 Cent stated that while he was working on the album, he wrote, produced, and directed his first film saying that the release of the film will coincide with the release of the album.[2]

In early October 2008, the first single titled "Get Up", with production credited to Scott Storch, was released via 50 Cent's official Internet community ThisIs50.com,[4] then his YouTube account, though it was later removed from YouTube. The second single, "I Get It In", was released in early January 2009, with production credited to Dr. Dre.[5] The fourth single has been confirmed and released titled "OK, You're Right" with production coming from Dr. Dre.[6]

The song "Crack a Bottle" which features Eminem, Dr. Dre, and 50 Cent himself, is stated to be featured on Before I Self Destruct as a possible bonus track or possibly incorporated in the track listing.[7]

Release date

The album's release date was initially announced to be February 4, 2008, but later moved to March 2008, due to the release date of Curtis being pushed up to September 2007.[8] However it was later revealed, in an interview with G-Unit members Tony Yayo and Lloyd Banks, that the album was scheduled to be released during the 4th quarter of 2008,[9] with 50 Cent himself later stating that the album was due to be released December 9, 2008.[2][10]

MTV later reported that the album will instead be released in 2009,[11][12] with February 3 being the date 50 Cent himself confirmed.[13] Though it was later pushed back to March 2009,[14] with March 24 being set as the day,[15] until he later confirmed that mentor and labelmate Eminem's album, Relapse, was going to be released before his own.[16] 50 Cent then told MTV that he would release the album in June,[17] with the date being changed once again as he decided to retool parts of the album once Eminem's Relapse was completed.[18]The release date has since been set for fall 2009.[19]

Sha Money XL and Ty-Fyffe have also worked on beats for the project. Ty-Fyffe posted his listening session on YouTube.[20]

Dr. Dre and Eminem have been confirmed to be both producers and guests on the album, with one track title, "Norman Bates Motel", already being confirmed.[21] Another song, Crack a Bottle, featuring both Dr. Dre and Eminem has been released as the third single from the album.[7]

The songs "Crack a Bottle", "OK, You're Right" both produced by Dr. Dre, and "Shut Your Bloodclot Mouth", produced by DJ Premier, were also confirmed but were not listed on the above tracklist.
