Rakhi Sawant
Rakhi Sawant (born November 25, 1982)[1] is an Indian dancer, Hindi film and television actress, and television talk show host.
Background
Rakhi Sawant comes from a Maharashtrian family from Mumbai. Her father is an ACP with the Mumbai Police. She has a brother, Rakesh and a sister, Jaya. Rakhi studied in Goklibai School, Vile Parle and later studied Arts at Mithibai College Family. She is a hindu but is thought to believe in other religions as well as she has been spotted several times praising jesus on TV interviews.
Sawant was still in school when director Suneel Darshan offered her an Item Number opposite Govinda in Joru ka Gulam. Three years later, she auditioned four times before winning her breakthrough Item number Mohabbat hai Mirchi in Chura Liya Hai Tumne in 2003.[2]
Rakhi ka Swayamvar
In 2009, Sawant began filming a reality TV series aimed at finding her a husband, based on the traditional Hindu practice of swayamvara. Makers of the programme, known as Rakhi Ka Swayamvar (Rakhi's Search For A Life Partner), announced that 12,515 entries were received.[3]
Hindi host turned actress Rakhi Sawant is getting thousands of proposals from men looking to be Mr. Right for her. That’s because she’s about to have a reality show where she gets to narrow down the choices in front of everyone, the show is aptly titled, “Rakhi Ka Swayamwar.” Think of “The Bachelor,” “Flavor of Love” and all of the other reality dating shows that seem to dominate television programming everywhere. The program is being produced by and aired on NDTV Imagine.
Rakhi Sawant, for one, is stunned at the response. “I want to thank everybody for their continued support,” Sawant said. This huge response has proved to everybody that my ’swayamvara’ and ’shaadi’ (wedding) is not a joke. My only wish is to find a person who will always be my support system and will respect me for what I am.”[4]
Rakhi Ka Swayamvar is a concept that has never seen before on television. The show promises to reveal a seldom-seen side of Rakhi and also provide an insightful glimpse of a roller coaster ride of emotions and tribulations. The ultimate selection of the groom will be made by Rakhi herself with the active help and participation of the audiences.
As a starting point, interested, prospective grooms will need to send in their profiles for selection. This will be followed by multi-city face to face meetings where these prospective grooms will be shortlisted.
Over the duration of the show, 16 prospective grooms who have been found from across the length and breadth of the country through an extensive all-media audition, will be brought together under one roof and put through a series of challenges that have been created keeping in mind the criteria identified by Rakhi herself. Each week, the grooms will be put through tasks that will test their personality, character; physical fitness, talent and also their compatibility with Rakhi. Additionally, Rakhi will be joined by a host of her celebrity friends for certain tasks, who will help her make her decision. In keeping with tradition, Rakhi will also visit the homes of the prospective grooms to get to know their families better. All through the series, viewers will help Rakhi decide, by voting for or against the prospective bridegrooms.
The final week will present the wedding celebrations in all its glory from the Mehendi to the Sangeet and culminating in a real-life wedding for Rakhi with the groom that she has chosen. All of these exciting events will be captured exclusively on Imagine. The show is being produced by SOL Productions Private Limited.
