Allows for a custom heading to the infobox instead of "Association football career" when embedded into another template.

Allows a custom web color to be set for the template's section headings and a divider when embedded into another template.

The commonly used name of the player. If this is omitted, it will be inferred from the title of the article.

{{{full_name}}}

The player's complete name. Long names will wrap automatically to the width of the infobox, so there's no need to include explicit linebreaks. Alias: fullname

A picture of the player, ideally on the pitch in the strip of their most recent team (or the team the player is most well known for, in the case of retirees). Images should be given in the format Example.jpg, rather than [[File:Example.jpg]].

{{{upright}}}

Scales the image thumbnail from its default size by the given factor. Values less than 1 scale the image down (0.9 = 90%) and values greater than 1 scale the image up (1.15 = 115%). The use of {{{image_size}}} has been deprecated and should be avoided per WP:IMGSIZE.

The player's date of birth. A template ({{Birth date}}, {{Birth date and age}}) should be used to add the date, but be sure to use the appropriate parameters to present the date in the same format as used in the text. The date should not be wikilinked.

The location of the player's birth.

{{{death_date}}}

The player's date of death. The template {{Death date and age}} should be used to add the date, but be sure to use the appropriate parameters to present the date in the same format as used in the text. The date should not be wikilinked.

The player's height in the units most common within the country in which they play, using the format "X m", "X cm", or "X ft Y in". When given in this format, the height will be automatically converted. Note that fractions of an inch can also be added, e.g. "5 ft 8+1/2 in" will output "5 ft 8+1⁄2 in (1.74 m)".

The player's most common position or positions. If a player is known for playing in multiple roles then explain the point more fully within the article.

The club for which the player currently plays, or is employed by. If the player now works in a non-playing role at the club, add this after the club in brackets. For retired players and free agents not currently employed by any club or federation, leave blank.

Style guide

Try to always consider that an infobox exists to support an article and provide a quick synopsis of important facts. This becomes vital when considering that the amount of space available within an infobox is significantly less than that available outside of it.

As per the manual of style entry on linking, years and dates should not be linked as they do not provide much benefit to the user.

Do not add flag icons to the birth_place, death_place, club, national team or other fields. See: Wikipedia:Manual of Style (flags).

As per the manual of style the player's height should be in the units most common in the country in which they play. Units should be abbreviated in the infobox and spelt out in the article text. Measurements should be inputted into the |height= parameter using the format "X m", "X cm", or "X ft Y in". This will automatically convert units between formats and correctly handle the presentation of units in their short forms. Per consensus at WikiProject Football, metric height will then be displayed in metres.

For example:

• |height=1.78 m produces 1.78 m (5 ft 10 in)
• |height=178 cm produces 1.78 m (5 ft 10 in)
• |height=5 ft 8 in produces 5 ft 8 in (1.73 m)
• |height=5 ft 8+1/2 in produces 5 ft 8+1⁄2 in (1.74 m)

Alternatively, the templates {{convert}} and {{height}} may be used for height conversion. This is particularly useful if the more accurate metric height is known but the output should be in feet and inches, or if a fraction is desired for the converted inches.

For example:

• If you have the height in metres, but want to display feet and inches first:
  • {{convert|1.73|m|order=flip}} produces 5 ft 8 in (1.73 m)
• If you have the height in metres, but want to display feet and inches first (with precision to the nearest half inch):
