Madden NFL 10 is an American football video game based on the National Football League that will be published by EA Sports and developed by EA Tiburon. It is the 21st annual installment in the Madden NFL video game franchise. The game will be released for the iPhone OS, Nintendo DS, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Wii, Xbox 360 consoles, as well as mobile devices.[1][2] The game is currently scheduled for an August 14, 2009 release.

Features

Gameplay

  • PRO-TAK - New animation technology that allows up to 9 players to be involved in tackles, ability to steer tackles and a more realistic pocket around the QB.[3]
  • Fight for the Fumble - Dynamic fumble pileups using PRO-TAK.[4]
  • New Ratings Philosophy – Every rating has been re-scaled for a more noticeable difference between players.[5]
  • Sim Style Gameplay – New game speed slider, lowered global game speed & more realistic pass speeds.[6]
  • Player Momentum – More realistic acceleration, deceleration, planting & turn rates.[7]
  • Quarterback Improvements – Layered Blending, new QB ratings and more realistic QB drop animation.[8]
  • WR/DB Interaction – Improved route running and man coverage & new WR/DB jostling.[9]
  • Adaptive AI - AI adapts to how the user is playing.[10]

Presentation

  • Procedural Awareness – System which allows each player to realistically follow the ball using head, eyes, neck and shoulders.[11]
  • Depth of Field – All new system which will not only improve the visual quality of the game but will allow a broadcast experience unlike previous versions.[12]
  • New Injury System - Injury status/severity is delayed instead of immediate for more suspense and realism, all new animations with trainers and injury carts are shown, players playing injured have their ratings affected negatively and are at chance of re-injuring themselves. [13]
  • The Extra Point - A weekly wrap-up show with Fran Charles & Alex Flanagan for Franchise.
  • Halftime/Postgame Show - Recaps stats and highlights from the game.
  • Super Bowl Presentation - USAF Thunderbirds and National Anthem, along with Super Bowl patches for jerseys and team specific endzones, sidelines and midfield logos.[14][15]
  • Cutscenes - Multiple pre/post play cutscenes along with camera angles.

Online

  • Online Franchise- Up to 32 players, real NFL scheduling, Live drafts, league message boards. Accessible through console, web browser or custom iPhone touch app.[16]
  • Online Co-op - Ability to team up with a friend online.[17]

Other

  • New improved superstar mode - Includes a highlight show and all new features such as being in movies, commercials, in depth interviews, and much more.
  • Improved Franchise Mode - Improved progression and regression, offseason signing logic and Draft logic and Pre-created draft classes.[18]
  • New Creation Features– New accessories such as QB towels, handwarmers, new realistic gloves, and arm bands.
  • Addition of the Wildcat offense – Players can now run the wildcat offense.[19]
  • Signature QB throwing-style animations - Signature throwing styles for some QBs.
  • Signature Kicking Styles - Different kicking styles.
  • Uniforms - Ability to mix-n-match uniforms and a 3D preview of the uniform whilst editing.
