Untitled

The R.E.D. Album will be the fourth studio album by rapper The Game, to be released by Interscope Records.[1] Although The Game planned to retire after releasing his previous album LAX in 2008, he decided to start working on this album the next year. The album is currently set for a 4th Quarter 2009 release.

Background

The Game, who debuted on a major label in 2005 with The Documentary, planned to retire after finishing his 2008 album LAX. In an interview with HipHopDX in June 2008, The Game asserted that Interscope wanted him to release another album in early 2009 rather than retire.[2] Although he wanted to retire, he expressed the will to put off retirement to record another album after LAX.[3]

Recording

Producer Maestro asserted that The Game was, in March 2009, recording this album in Atlanta.[4] In an interview with MTV News in May, he explained that his collaboration with Rick Ross, one of 50 Cent's major rivals, on the album has nothing to do with the rivalry between Ross and 50 Cent.[5] At the end of June 2009, DJ Haze's online TV series showed a studio session with The Game, before his Lamborghini Tour. The clip showed The Game a music studio recording a new song for the album, and played back with a singer on the hook.[6]

Concept

The Game said in an interview in early May with Guerrilla Journalism: "I'm working on album number four, ain't really got no concept or nothin' yet. I'm just startin' it out. I did a couple records in New York that I really like a lot but not 'til I get back to Cali on Monday is when I'm really gonna go in."[7] According to an interview with MTV, "The Game's new LP, The R.E.D. Album, was not inspired by him being a Blood. It's not a clever play on words or some type of tip of the fitted cap to Jay-Z's Black Album. Nah, the Compton native's CD is all about him restarting his engine."[8]
