The Duggar family is a family from Tontitown, Arkansas in the U.S. It's headed by Jim Bob Duggar and Michelle Duggar (married July 21, 1984), who have been repeatedly featured in the news and entertainment media for their large number of children (currently 18), as well as their membership in the fringe Quiverfull Christian movement. The family has been the featured attraction on several Discovery Health Channel and The Learning Channel (TLC) television programs [1][2][3][4][5][6].

On May 9, 2008, Michelle Duggar announced on the Today Show that she was pregnant with their 18th child who was due on New Years Day 2009. The baby, Jordyn-Grace Makiya, was born on December 18, 2008.[7] The family is also the subject of a new TLC series, 18 Kids and Counting, which airs on Tuesdays at 9:00 PM Eastern Time (two 30-minute episodes run back to back).

Family life

In 2004, Michelle Duggar won the "Young Mother of the Year Award" in Arkansas, which is sponsored by American Mothers Incorporated.[13]. The Duggars view their children as blessings from God. After they had their first child, Michelle miscarried while on birth control. They were devasated by the news and Michelle discontinued using birth control (after discovering the fine print that states miscarriages may be caused by the birth control pill).[14]

Jim Bob Duggar is a former state legislator who served in the Arkansas House of Representatives from 1999 to 2002. The Duggars income is mostly derived from the commercial properties they own.[15][16] The Duggars live debt-free [17][18] which Jim Bob has said is a credit to applying the Biblical principles of finance he learned watching Jim Sammons Financial Freedom Seminar many years ago. Their 7000+ square foot house was completed on January 20, 2006 and was later featured on a show entitled 16 Children & Moving In! on TLC.

The Duggars are not allowed to dance or play cards because of their religion, they also go to church in their own home.
