Episodes
Each episode includes two challenges. The Quickfire Challenge is a short, simple challenge with a varying reward each week; in the initial episodes of the season, it usually guarantees the winner immunity from being sent home that week; however, in the latter stages, the Quickfire winner is given an advantage in the upcoming Elimination Challenge. It also has been made clear that Quickfire winners this season may receive other rewards, including cash prizes. The Elimination Challenge is a more complex challenge that determines who goes home. One or more guest judges join the show each week to evaluate both the Quickfire and Elimination challenges. Each week's elimination is announced in a segment called "Judges' Table."
Episode 1: Sin City Vice
- Quickfire Challenge (Round 1): The 17 chefs are divided into four teams to compete in a mise en place relay race in which each member must perform one of four tasks: Shuck 15 clams. Peel 30 spot prawns. Clean five lobsters. Butcher two chops from an entire prime rib. The chefs draw poker chips to determine their teams (black, blue, green, or red); however, there was one gold chip which was drawn by Robin which gives her a free pass from the Quickfire and immunity for the Elimination Challenge. The first team to finish the tasks wins the challenge.
- Black Team (Mike, Ashley, Hector, Eli)
- Blue Team (Jennifer, Bryan, Jesse, Mattin)
- Green Team (Laurine, Ron, Ash, Jen)
- Red Team (Kevin, Preeti, Eve, Michael)
- WINNERS: Blue Team
- Quickfire Challenge (Round 2): Each member of the Blue Team is given 30 minutes to cook a dish using the ingredient they worked with in the relay race. The chef of the winning dish receives $15,000. Head judge Tom Colicchio gives Robin the choice to trade her immunity for a chance to compete, but she declines.
- Top 2: Jennifer, Jesse
- Bottom 2: Bryan, Mattin
- WINNER: Jennifer (Clam Ceviche with Citron Vinegar)
- Elimination Challenge: The chefs must create a dish to battle against the chefs in their teams from the Quickfire. Robin chooses to compete with the Blue Team. One chef from each team will be up to win the challenge while one other chef will be tapped for elimination. The chefs are to cook a dish based on one of their personal "vices" at Wolfgang Puck's restaurant Cut.
- At Judges' Table, Jennifer C., Kevin, Mike, and Ron were selected as the judges' favorites.
- At Judges' Table, Eve, Hector, Jen, and Jesse were selected as the judges' least favorites.
- WINNER: Kevin ("Procrastination": Arctic Char with Turnip Salsa Verde)
- ELIMINATED: Jen ("Hot Temper": Chile Relleno stuffed with Seitan & Tomatillo Salsa)
- Guest Judge: Wolfgang Puck
Episode 2: Bachelor/Ette Party
- Quickfire Challenge: The chefs each roll a pair of six-sided dice at a craps table in the Top Chef kitchen. They then have a half hour to create a dish with that same number of ingredients, not counting salt, pepper and oil. This is another high-stakes Quickfire; the winner gets immunity from elimination and $15,000. The chefs and their number of ingredients are: Ashley, 8; Bryan, 10; Eve, 8; Hector, 5; Jennifer, 9; Jesse, 9; Kevin, 10; Laurine, 3; Mattin, 4; Michael V., 8; and Ron, 8. (The number of ingredients for Eli, Mike I., Preeti and Robin were not revealed in the episode.)
- Todd English chose Bryan, Eve, and Jesse as the chefs of his least favorite dishes while Jennifer, Kevin, and Michael V. prepared his most favorite.
- Elimination Challenge: In order to cater a bachelor/bachelorette party, the group is split between male and female for an old-fashioned battle of the sexes. The men will prepare dishes for the bride-to-be, while the women cook for the prospective groom. A member of the winning team will be picked as the winner; a member of the losing team will be up for elimination. At least two dishes must be paired with each of the three cocktails the couple has chosen to serve their guests: Moscow Mule, Tequila Shots, or Golden Delicious (Goldschläger and sparkling apple cider). Each team is given $800 with a half hour to shop, two hours to prep, and one hour to set up their tables before poolside service the next day.
- The Men are the winning team; Bryan, Eli, Hector, and Michael V. are chosen as the chefs of the judges' favorite dishes.
- The Women are the losing team; Ashley, Eve, Preeti and Jesse are chosen as the chefs of the judges' least favorite dishes.
- Guest Judge: Todd English
Episode 3: Thunderbirds
- Quickfire Challenge: Each chef must create an "out of this world" dish out of an assortment of different potatoes. The winner gets immunity from elimination.
- Mark Peel chose Jennifer, Ashley, and Ash as his favorites while Eli, Jesse, and Ron were his least favorites.
- WINNER: Jennifer (Steamed Mussels, Yukon Gold and Blue Potatoes with Lemongrass Potato Sauce)
- Mark Peel chose Jennifer, Ashley, and Ash as his favorites while Eli, Jesse, and Ron were his least favorites.
- Elimination Challenge: With limited time and supplies, the chefs must cater for 300 airmen at Nellis Air Force Base. They all must work as one team, but they later decide to split up into smaller groups of two and make one dish each. Jennifer is appointed executive chef because she has immunity.

- ELIMINATED: Preeti (Farfalle Pasta Salad with Roasted Red Peppers, Sun-Dried Tomatoes, Artichoke Hearts, Broccoli, Red Onion, and Red Wine Vinaigrette)
- Guest Judge: Mark Peel
