In reaction,though belated, to Bilbo's purge of university professors the following wording was added to the State Constitution: Such board shall have the power and authority to elect the heads of the various institutions of higher learning, and contract with all deans, professors and other members of the teaching staff, and all administrative employees of said institutions for a term not exceeding four (4) years; but said board shall have the power and authority to terminate any such contract at any time for malfeasance, inefficiency or contumacious conduct, but never for political reasons.

White Supremacy?
He supported Leroy Percy and paid a heavey price because of it. Seems inconsistent with the WS label. Those were nasty times so supporting Percy took some courage. He may have been risking his life. IMO calling him a white supremacist is simplistic. Geo8rge (talk) 02:53, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Why?
Saying it was due to 'political considerations' is rather skimpy. Some background on this dramatic move, which made national headlines, would improve the article.
