The Ryōzanpaku Dojo is home to elite fighters, who each specialize in different styles of martial arts. The dojo is famous for its powerful members and is often challenged by other dojos or single fighters. Due to this, Ryōzanpaku charges its challengers and actually has a waiting list; this caused Kenichi to call them 'Dojo hunters'.
Even though they charge, the dojo still lacks money. To compensate for this, the members of the dojo often use their creativity in several things, including using an uncharted island for vacation and building their own boat and cottage.
During the YOMI arc Ryōzanpaku Dojo goes bankrupt. The master's job doesn't produce enough money, so they take little children as paid students for a few weeks for extra money.
Despite being immeasurably powerful, the masters of Ryōzanpaku are very odd and eccentric. They are all prone to immature behavior. They also have trouble interacting with normal people due to the fact that they unconsciously release massive amounts of ki. They are shown to be lazy procrastinators as only Kōetsuji and Ma are shown to bring in any steady income. Those two are rarely seen doing anything when they aren't training Kenichi.

Kenichi Shirahama

Shirahama Ken'ichi (白浜 兼一) Voiced by: Tomokazu Seki (Japanese); Josh Grelle (English)

Kenichi Shirahama is a 16-year-old boy who is currently in his second year of high school[1]. When Kenichi was 6-years old he and his friend Ryuuto went to a local convenience store where they traded a pin in the shape of a cat's face with a then 6-year-old Miu for a pin which bore the yin yang symbol. The two then watched as Miu defeated a group of thugs who were attempting to rob the store and made a promise to become stronger as they got older. Though Ryuuto made good on the promise, becoming the first fist of Ragnarok as well as a member of Yomi, Kenichi forgot about the promise and was bullied frequently.

On his way to school one day Kenichi met Miu once again (though he did not recognize her) and the two soon became friends. Kenichi was a member of the school's karate club but was forced to do menial chores and was used as a punching bag until one day he stood up to a hulking student who tried to force him to quit and the two agreed to a match in which the loser will be forced to quit the club. With Miu's help he managed to win but quit the club anyway and drew unwanted attention from the club's president whom he fought twice managing an easy win the second time due to training he received at the Ryozanpaku dojo. However the trouble does not end for Kenichi as the club president had ties to a rising delinquent group known as Ragnarok who begin to take an interest in Kenichi. The manga follows Kenichi as he continues to train at, and eventually live at the Ryozanpaku dojo as well as facing increasingly more powerful foes.

Though it is consistently stated that Kenichi has no talent for martial arts he more than makes up for it with his work ethic. It is due to this and the abnormally intense training regime he is forced to endure that Kenichi has gone from being considered the weakest student in his high school to being able to fight and defeat opponents with many years worth of skill as well as some with borderline superhuman abilities.

Kenichi is kind, compassionate, thoughtful, and moral to a fault. He is against violence and only studies martial arts to protect others, and also adheres to a strict code of morals and refuses to kill or hit women even if it means death. In spite of his strong moral standards however Kenichi can be quite perverted as he will jump at the chance to see Miu or Shigure bathing and also buys pictures of them from Ma (though these pictures are mostly fakes). He also adopted a "fighting style" from Ma called "ecchi mode" in which he attempts to grope women which strangely enough has actually helped him get out of a jam before[2]. As a result of his kindness Kenichi has made many friends some of whom are former enemies and has even managed to unknowingly win the affections of Renka Ma and Li Raichi.

Kenichi favors no specific style (though he does abhor the use of weapons) and usually just uses whatever fits the situation however he has used some techniques consistently. Of these techniques is the "kouho haiho", a defensive technique which is also the first thing Miu taught him[3]. Kenichi also instinctively combines techniques that he learns into powerful finishing moves, which he calls "saikyo" (strongest) combos. He also makes frequent use of seikuken, another defensive technique taught to him by Hayato which is based on the real life concept of maai and acts as a sort of shield which helps the user to neutralize enemy attacks and is even capable of repelling them outright[4]. Also from Hayato he has learned seikuken's second stage known as "ryuusui" (lit:flowing water), seikuken which reduces the circumference of the seikuken from being sphere-like to molding against the user's body, which allows them to better feel the flow of their enemies' attacks hence its name. Kenichi's most powerful attack is arguably the "mubyoshi" (lit:no beat/no rhythm), which he invented himself. The mubyoshi combines the basics of karate, muay thai, jujitsu, as well as some Chinese martial arts into a single powerful punch strong enough to defeat almost anyone in a single blow. Its name is derived from the fact that because it combines the fundamentals of so many different philosophies, its rhythm is immensely difficult to predict even for very experienced martial artists. The attack's only weakness is that to gather the power necessary to use it, Kenichi must maintain a certain pose in which he touches the tips of his fingers to his opponent leaving him vulnerable to counterattack. In spite of this drawback the only two people who have ever been able to stop the mubyoshi are Ryuuto and Hayato, though the former managed to only barely do so[5].

In the latest chapter (chapter 348), Kenichi reveals yet another technique gained from training with the Elder, Korui Nuki. Korui Nuki is a kick which focuses on using Kenichi's lower body along with his mastery of his center of gravity and knowledge of an opponent's openings, channeling all of Kenichi's power into a single point of impact. This technique was powerful enough to break Pollux's guard and end the fight between them.

Miu Fūrinji

Fūrinji Miu (風林寺 美羽) Voiced by: Tomoko Kawakami (Japanese); Carrie Savage (English)

  • First appearance: Battle 1
  • Type: Dou
  • Type: Katsujin Ken
  • Martial Arts: Unknown, but utilizes many kicks. Her usually stance in a crane stance.

Miu Furinji is a 16-year-old girl who attends the same school as Kenichi (as well several other prominent characters) and is currently in her second year[6]. She is the granddaughter of Hayato Furinji and the daughter of Saiga Furinji the leaders of Ryozanpaku and Yami's One Shadow Nine Fists respectively. It is unknown how or when Miu came into Hayato's care but she has been with him since she was at least 6-years-old[7]. It was in these early years of her life that Miu learned martial arts from her grandfather and also accompanied him on his missions to bring about peace.

Before Miu transferred to Kouryou she attended a school that was apparently quite famous [8] but didn't fit in because all the girls in the school were jealous of her looks. It is because of this that Miu attempted to moderate her appearance by fashioning her hair into a plain-looking braid and began to wear glasses. Though she kept this facade going well into her second year she eventually discarded them.

Despite being attractive, athletic, kind, and humble, Miu is very socially inept to the point of having no friends before meeting Kenichi and has practically no social life. The reason for Miu's immense amount of social ineptness stems from her upbringing in which she never had any time to make friends and also from her home life in which she is practically a live-in maid. In spite of this however Miu has managed to make quite a few friends over the course of the series due to her kind and friendly nature as well as some help from Kenichi. Miu has a great fondness of kittens and becomes openly hostile towards anyone who harms one and even once tortured Kenichi because he ruined an opportunity for her to have one.

Miu has consistently proven herself throughout the series to be an immensely skilled fighter. Having been trained by her grandfather since she was very young as well as facing much danger along the way her skills have been honed to the point where she will reflexively throw anyone who sneaks up behind her. Though her fighting style has not been named she makes heavy use of kicks as well as acrobatics. While her exact level of skill is unknown, Kenichi has never once been able to hit her in a sparring match (though his vow to never hit women much less Miu may contribute to this). She has also said that she can spar seriously with Kenichi only recently, meaning she had always been taking it easy on him in the past.

Hayato Fūrinji

Fūrinji Hayato (風林寺 隼人) Voiced by: Hiroshi Arikawa (Japanese); R Bruce Elliott (English)

  • First appearance: Battle 6
  • Type: Dou / Sei
  • Type: Katsujin Ken
  • Martial Arts: Knowing him, probably everything (explained by his ability to copy all of the enemy's moves easily)
Hayato is Miu's grandfather and the undefeated elder of the Ryōzanpaku Dojo, who is said to have beaten 500 Shaolin masters to near death. He is also known as the 'Invincible Super Man' (無敵超人, mutekichōjin, lit. 'man with no equals'). His kicks have speeds that are still a blur even when viewing a replay of it at 1/1000 of the normal speed. If necessary, he is able to intimidate the other masters in order to maintain peace. Even using just 0.0002% of his power, he can easily overwhelm both Kenichi and Miu at the same time and rip a tree in half. He was able to defeat a master level opponent in D of D tournament with just one finger. Prior to building the dojo, he and his granddaughter had traveled around the world in his quest for peace. He has 108 special techniques so far and can copy any move an opponent uses against him, like Kenichi's 'Saikyou(Strongest) Combo' and 'Saikyou Combo 2' , Soutenshu and Miu's 'Hyōi Kazekirihane'. He knows Seikūken and is the creator of "Ryūsui (flowing water) Seikūken" which Kenichi learned from him. However, his most used technique seems to be the 'Human Shuriken.'
One move that has been shown in the manga is "the Shockwave of Forgetfulness" a move which erases ones' memory. He seems to be able to decide how much is forgotten, as in the flash back to meeting Apachai the thug leader experienced total amnesia while Kenichi only lost his short term memory.
His training methods are the most frightening of all the masters at Ryōzanpaku, as bad omens like the splitting of tea bowls, pots and chopsticks were common at Ryōzanpaku while Kenichi was in the mountains training with him. Hayato is rather fond of Kenichi calling him "Ken-chan" and is the only master who apologizes to Kenichi for the hellish training that him and the other masters put him through. He later comments that Kenichi reminds him of himself when he was young. Though Hayato appears to have unmatchable power, Miu tells Kenichi that he had trouble fighting Silcardo Jenazard before. He and Kushinada know each other from the past.
Despite being the eldest and most powerful of the dojo, Hayato has proven to be rather irresponsible at times. He tends to recklessly spend the dojo's money on personal items and gets carried away whenever he has an opportunity to showcase his strength. Sometimes he's seen eating candy, especially lollipops. Also he mentions that he is getting weaker. After he used .0002% against Miu and Kenichi he told them that he needed a rest after using that much power. In Battle 231 he can use bi-vocal skill that can allows him to use two voices to speak. One time he used it for a duet at a karaoke bar apparently. Hayato can also use the left and right side of his body to perform separate actions and movements. In Battle 233 he is shown capable of reducing his voice to a degree where only one individual can hear his voice. With these abilities many, if not everyone, believe he is not human.

Shio Sakaki

Sakaki Shio (逆鬼 至緒) Voiced by: Unshō Ishizuka (Japanese); Christopher Sabat (English)

  • First appearance: Battle 7
  • Type: Dou
  • Type: Katsujin Ken
  • Martial Arts: Karate
Sakaki is a 29-year-old extremely powerful, self-proclaimed 100-dan karate master. He claimed not to take disciples at first, but gradually grew to like Kenichi and is always eager to train him. He has a soft side which he tries to hide behind his tough guy attitude, and is usually the one worrying about Kenichi the most despite acting like he does not care. He is also a terrible liar and often fails to hide his concern for Kenichi. He also gets embarrassed whenever Kenichi calls him "sensei" (even though he asks him to). He likes to gamble and can usually be seen drinking alcohol. He is also "fluent" in English after brawling all over the world. He is the fiance of Jennifer Grey(even though Sakaki was drunk and Jennifer was a child at the time he proposed). He is an old friend of Christopher Eclair, a Yami member. Sakaki, Christopher and Mycroft (Possibly a reference to Mycroft Holmes, Sherlock Holmes's older brother) used to team up to fight against the mafia and help the FBI. He refused to kill or use old people or children as hostage. Christopher, tired of Sakaki's methods, tries to ambush him, but Sakaki buries him alive in a desert (when Kenichi learns this, he imagines them being tied up in a hole while Sakaki uses a bulldozer, claiming that the two aren't even good manure). The majority of the underground fighters are scared of Ryōzanpaku and Sakaki in particular. There is little known about his past or why or how he became a martial artist especially of his status. Though his master was said to be a master of "Sei", which means that Sakaki's master was a very logical person at heart though to get him to his level, he must have undergone through unimaginablly hellish training.

One notable trait of Sakaki is that his laugh is threatening, which Kenichi uses when he imitated him in the fight against Ryuuto, Sakaki was unaware that his laugh sounded like that and is actually angered by the fact especially when Apachai makes fun of him.

Apachai Hopachai

Apachai Hopachai (アパチャイ・ホパチャイ) Voiced by: Hiroya Ishimaru (Japanese); Sonny Strait (English)

Apachai is the 28-year-old Muay Thai "God of Death". Despite his lethal skills, he has a childlike nature, which is why he is good with kids and animals (he also happens to have the unique ability to communicate with animals). However, when it comes to fighting, Apachai lacks the ability to hold back, and often nearly kills Kenichi (one incident from chapter 24, Kenichi had to be revived with CPR due to cardiac arrest from an attack by Apachai). The reason for this is because Apachai has been fighting life or death battles in the ring since he was very young, therefore striking with deadly force has become a reflex for him. Since he was saddened by the fact that Kenichi was scared to train with him, he eventually learns how to hold back his strength, though he still sometimes knocks out Kenichi when he enters his fighting mode. He always looks out for Kenichi, and hammers nails into voodoo dolls (a "spell" that Shigure teaches him to bring good luck) whenever he feels something bad will happen to Kenichi. When Apachai talks he frequently says "Apa", sometimes even yelling out "Apapapapa... (pronounced A papapa pa)" whilst fighting or training. He also answers the phone with a "We have your child hostage." rather than a normal "Hello", because of his lack of understanding the Japanese language completely. Kenichi is his first disciple, which may explain his difficulty in being a moderate trainer. He has also mentioned several times that he has trouble understanding japanese which may be another reason why he never holds back despite how much everyone tells him to.
In the YOMI arc, Apachai tells the Elder that he knows one of the members in YAMI. He has vowed to sacrifice his life for Kenichi, should the need arise.
In the manga, Hayato Fūrinji reveals that he met Apachai when the latter was working as a bodyguard for men who he led a child slave ring, which kidnapped children and extorted money from a local village, though Apachai was unaware of the extortion ring. He even fought against Hayato Fūrinji in order to protect his "comrades" and was able to hold his own for a decent period of time, though changed sides after discovering they weren't taking the children out for fun. Given his current age along with Miu's age at the time, Apachai was likely still a teenager when Hayato first met him. This along with other things mentioned by Apachai implies that he was forced to fight rather than choosing the lifestyle himself.
He is shown to have been trained in Muay Boran in chapter 281.

Shigure Kōsaka

Kōsaka Shigure (香坂 しぐれ) Voiced by: Mamiko Noto (Japanese); Trina Nishimura (English)

  • First appearance: Battle 7
  • Type: Sei
  • Type: Katsujin Ken
  • Martial Arts: Weapon
Shigure is a 22 year old, mysterious person and a slow talker. She is also a master of all types of weapons and believes that weaponry should be seen as an extension of the body: simply relying on the weapons' strength alone will not make you a master of it. She was initially viewed as a loner, often avoiding interaction with the other residents of the dojo, besides Apachai. However, later in the series, she begins to open up to Kenichi and the others, and even partakes in certain daily rituals (e.g. dinner) with them. She teaches Kenichi how to use weapons and also got him past his fear of people using weapons against him.
It was implied by Kensei that Shigure worries about Kenichi when he is not around because she believes that he got into something dangerous, meaning she has possibly grown a liking for Kenichi. She even allows Kōetsuji to tell Kenichi of her past, saying that it is okay simply because he's Kenichi. By chapter 292 of the manga, Miu had noted Shigure's change in behavior since Kenichi's arrival at the dojo, and harbored private suspicions of Shigure's view of Kenichi.
Out of all the masters, Shigure trains Kenichi the least. Her actions subtly suggest that she yearns to have him as a disciple, and is disappointed with Kenichi's reluctance to use weaponry (along with his perpetual fear of her). Thus far, she has taught Kenichi mostly practical abilities, such as swimming and rope tying. When she got the chance to take Kenichi with her on one of her journeys to get past his fear, she would pump her fist in victory whenever she felt she had done something right in her teachings. Though she was overjoyed to see Kenichi using her weapon style fighting with his arms when he was fighting Odin.
It is revealed that Shigure was raised deep in the mountains along with her father, who was an expert at both crafting and wielding weapons. On one of Akisame's travels he discovered Shigure and her father. Because her father was suffering from a terminal illness, he requested Akisame to take his life away in a duel so that he could die a warrior's death. Akisame initially refused, but eventually had to throw him off a cliff after a forced confrontation. Before dieing Shigure's father admitted he did not really want to die in battle, but was trying to be a bad example so his daughter would avoid repeating his mistakes. Akisame then gave Shigure her name (her father never gave her one) and took her to be raised by Akisame's old friend, the current master of the Kōsaka-style swordsmanship. After the old man passed away, Akisame brought Shigure into Ryōzanpaku. Shigure goes on missions to locate swords crafted by her father and takes them out of circulation, she keeps her exact motivations for this a secret but it is highly suggested it's because she doesn't want her father's weapons used for killing.
Shigure is rarely seen smiling. Kenichi glimpsed her once while she was teaching him how to swim, and the other occasion was when Shigure was unsheathing her sword to battle a tank. Shigure also is cheerfully smiling when Kenichi imitates her while battling Odin in episode 49 of the anime and chapter 140 of the manga. There is also a small smile when Shigure calls Kenichi a "loser" dog in episode 41 of the anime and chapter 116. She is also seen smiling when Kenichi picks up Boris's duel challenge emblem in chapter 271. She is seen smiling fully on chapter 292 while commenting on the good relationship between Kenichi and Miu.

A mouse (who has unique abilities), later named Tochūmaru, is frequently in her company. Shigure usually plays with Honoka and Apachai, and often beats Kensei Ma for harassing her. Tochūmaru is able to defeat cats (and later even armed mercenaries) with ease. It is also known for stealing food from others, which Apachai is often blamed for.

Kensei Ma

Ba/Ma1 Kensei (馬 剣星) Voiced by: Issei Futamata (Japanese); Vic Mignogna (English)

  • First appearance: Battle 7
  • Type: Sei
  • Type: Katsujin Ken
  • Martial Arts: Chinese martial arts soft style
Kensei is a 41-year-old, lecherous master of Chinese Kenpō. He is short, balding, and always tries to take revealing pictures of beautiful women (including Shigure and Miu), which often earns him the wrath of the pair, though it does not stop him. Despite his present attitude, he was actually a charming and handsome young man in his youth, and was very popular with women. Kenichi and Ma develop a very close relationship, though Ma mistreats Kenichi comically like everyone else does, Kenichi sees him as a father figure. He also knows Kenichi better than the others due to the fact that he is usually the one who ends up convincing him to cooperate with their plans, such as when he convinced Kenichi to move into Ryōzanpaku, and also will occasionally swindle him into buying the perverted pictures he takes (Though in the D&D arc, Kenichi states that he all he ever receives are pictures of Tochumaru posing). Though he is a perverted and sly old man, Kenichi still admits that he never doubted his training methods or his beliefs as a master, this shows how much his bond with Kenichi and him are as master and disciple.
Later in the series, he is revealed to have a wife and three kids, including a 16-year-old daughter named Renka Ma, who followed him from China. Kensei was actually the leader of an elite martial arts alliance in China, made up of thousands of students. However, he viewed the responsibilities as a nuisance, so he left it all to his wife, and moved to Japan where he operates an accupuncture clinic. He also has an older brother, Sougetsu Ma.
During the DofD tournament, Ma Kensei reveals to Kenichi his history with the Three Headed Dragon team of Kaku Shin Ten (Taichi Clan), Chou Yin Lin (Bagua Clan), and Yo Tekai (Shin Yi Clan) who all hail from the Black Tiger White Dragon Alliance in China, a rival organisation of Kensei's Phoenix Martial Artists Alliance. He apparently meet them when they tried to attack his school. Kensei quickly defeated all of them, however he is impressed with their potential as martial artists, especially with Kaku, and made him a proposition to become his apprentice. He turns down the offer and leaves with nothing, but anger and hatred for Kensei ever since. Kensei feels that Kaku can still change deep down and after Kenichi beats him, he tends to Kaku and his teammates' wounds. He gives them his symbol for the Phoenix Martial Artists Alliance as his gift to them and says that when Kaku, Chou, and Yo become stronger proposes that they see him again. He leaves Kaku and his team than as Kaku crys while his team cheers him up by saying that they are still a team no matter what. This makes Kensei feel that Kaku will become a better person in time.
In the fight against Diego Carlo, the Laughing or Angry 'Steel' Fist, Ma emerges as the winner.
^1 In the manga, his surname is pronounced Ba; in the anime, and in some translations of the manga, it is changed to Ma, possibly because this is the usual Chinese pronunciation.

Akisame Kōetsuji

Kōetsuji Akisame (岬越寺 秋雨) Voiced by: Jūrōta Kosugi (Japanese); Kent Williams (English)

  • First appearance: Battle 7
  • Type: Sei
  • Type: Katsujin Ken
  • Martial Arts: Aikijujitsu
Akisame is a 38-year-old philosophical Jujutsu master who was the first master willing to train Kenichi (though ironically he seems to be the only masters that does not believe in him, though this may be an act) and an old friend of Miu's father, Saiga. Despite his seemingly small physique, he is actually known for having his muscles built to perfection. He also has very good insight on people, often knowing if they are troubled or hiding something; he sometimes even knows what a person is thinking, which scares Kenichi.
He has several hobbies and many unique abilities, including being a famous and legendary artisan, who has mastered calligraphy, painting, pottery, and sculpting. He often invents contraptions that serve as both training devices for Kenichi and power sources for the dojo including a treadmill generator. Because of this, in the manga Kenichi often runs home to him in times of problems screaming "DORAEMON!" (complete with dorayaki). He also owns an orthopedic clinic, and can reset and fix bones with ease. According to Kenichi in episode 8, he is capable of unspeakable brutality. In episode 50, it is shown that Akisame does indeed show anger towards Ogata's treatment of his disciple. When Kenichi imitated him in the battle against Ryuuto, Kenichi openly informed Ryuuto that the basics of martial arts is mimicry, this seemed to impress Akisame. Akisame is also capable of speaking fluently in Russian and can even write Russian symbols well even when driving a motorcycle at high speeds.
He believes that masters should not interfere with their disciple's (Kenichi's) battles, and often has to convince Sakaki not to pulverize those who beat up Kenichi. He would also sometimes bet on Kenichi's fight with Sakaki . However, like all the other masters at the dojo, he worries about Kenichi as well. He later believes that Kenichi will climb the ladder of a true martial artist. Akisame met and defeated Shigure's father before coming to Ryōzanpaku. At the conclusion of the match Shigure's father falls to his death, leaving her an orphan. Akisame leaves her in the care of an old friend and after his old friend dies then he brings her to live at Ryōzanpaku. He seems to know Takeda's master James Shiba and he seems to hold some kind of grudge against him as James often insults Akisame's mustache. Akisame has frightening powers of perception seemingly always knowing everything that is going on to every last detail even if he isn't there. He even knows when people are talking about him. Though it is shown through the manga and anime a fatal weakness of his is green pepper.
After the DofD tournament, Akisame, Sakaki, and Kenichi go on a job as bodyguards for the Congress woman of Russia. It turns out that Alexander Gaider, The Fist of Destruction, as well as a master of SAMBO, and a member of the One Shadow Nine Fists was after the Congress woman because she had information on Yami. Akisame goes after him along with Kenichi as Sakaki was fighting 2 members of Yami who were of master class(though they only held him off for 2 minutes). Akisame and Kenichi run into Boris Ivanov, who was the disciple of Alexander Gaidar, though he could only hold Akisame off for just over 1 second. Kenichi holds off Boris and his group while Akisame fights Alexander. They both seemed to be evenly matched as Alexander and Akisame both use styles that are similar however Alexander's SAMBO is stronger offensively than Akisame's Jujutsu, however Akisame has far more experience than Alexander as well as a better body build. Akisame gives Kenichi a signal to get the Congress woman while he holds Alexander off, though he receives a blow as a result off doing this. They both somehow do their job and save her thanks to the last minute arrival of Sakaki. Both Alexander and Boris take their leave, failing their mission.
Akisame and Sakaki goes towards Russia's main government base. Akisame takes the mission on alone though and knocks out all the guards without arousing attention. Both he and Alexander once again began where they left off. Akisame first appeared to have the upperhand however Alexander quickly turns the tides by using his ultimate technique. However Akisame is still alive despite gaining great injures. Alexander soon reveals that he had copied Akisame special flow-like movement technique to his advantage. This forced Akisame to do the same and both are unable to even see each other. Alexander soon sees one of his soldier's still awake watching the battle and sees into his eyes to see Akisame and him in his reflection and was able to catch him. This was in vain as Akisame, has been used to being thrown countless times, counters Alexander's attack with just his ki and feet. Alexander soon counters Akisame attack with a countermeasure, "putting his life on the line", which opposes the Katsu-jin ken, which saves life. They both continue until Akisame knocks Alexander out for only 2 seconds, which by Alexander's point of view as a martial artist signifies his loss. Alexander is later taken into a secret maximum security prison known as "Big Lock", whose location and information are all unknown even to Yami.

Ragnarok

From top anticlockwise: Berseker, Loki and Number 20, Hermit, Thor, Kisara, Freya, Kenichi [non-member], Odin, Miu [non-member], Siegfried, Takeda, Ukita and Nijima [non-member]

Eight Fists

The Eight Fists are the leaders of Ragnarok, the eight strongest members of the organization—three members can easily defeat fifty enemies. Each member wears a glove with a number (I - VIII) that corresponds to their position. Most of the Fists have adopted the names of legendary beings and figures from Norse mythology. Later, it is revealed that the First Fist, Odin, has the backing of Isshinsai Ogata whom they call "Kensei-sama," who gives him special training not available to the other Fists. Also, the first three fists are known as the "Three of Cards" and are the founding members of Ragnarok. According to Natsu Tanimoto, they are on a completely different level than the other Fists. After Ragnarok is disbanded, five of the eight fists(namely Freya(3), Siegfried(5), Hermit(6), Thor(7) and Valkyrie(8)) are allied with or in the Shinpaku Alliance. With the exception of Odin, who joined YOMI, the rest's(Berserker(2) and Loki(4)) whereabouts are currently unknown. Though it is implied in recent events that Niijima has convinced Loki to infiltrate Yomi.

Odin

Ōdīn (オーディーン) Voiced by: Ken Narita (Japanese); Jerry Jewell (English)

See YOMI's Ryūto Asamiya

Berserker

Bāsākā (バーサーカー) Voiced by: George Nakata

Berserker is the Second Fist of Ragnarok. He is often seen chewing bubble gum and hardly ever speaks. He has quite a calm disposition despite all the damage being done to Ragnarok. It is revealed that Berserker did not once study martial arts, but simply has a natural talent for fighting. He is a Dou type fighter, and can go into "Berserk Mode", unleashing more power. Berserker is said to be the most fearsome fighter in all of Ragnarok, and Loki even believes that he could be a better First Fist than Odin (though Loki may have simply said it in order to plant a seed of betrayal in Berserker). However, Berserker shows no interest in becoming a leader for any gang, and is actually afraid of fighting Odin, believing that the latter is much stronger than he is.
Later, when Hermit defeats Berserker in the final battle, he is unwilling to admit defeat and attempts to continue on, despite his injuries. However, Kenichi tells him that one should not be ashamed of defeat because one learns more from it, whereby he stops trying to fight, but is finished off by Odin. His current condition and whereabouts are unknown at this time. However, in chapter 344 a silhouette of what appears to be Berserker can be seen with Yami.
He is named after Berserkers, Norse warriors. His sleeveless jacket also has Norway's flag pattern. He displays traits similar to the Nordic Berserkers of ancient times, such as displaying a furious battle rage in his attacks when aroused, as well negating feelings of pain through an adrenaline rush that enables him to ignore his injuries and continue fighting.
In the DfoD arc and the YOMI arc, he is the only unaccounted member of Ragnorak, the others having defected to Shinpaku or lying low (Odin joins YOMI, while Loki's sihoulette has been seen in an informant message to Nijima). However, a recent figure in sihoulette as one of the three individuals chosen by Kensei to take up his experimental disciple program bears a great similarity to Berserker, though it is still unknown whether or not this is true.

Loki

Roki (ロキ) Voiced by: Keiji Fujiwara (Japanese); Travis Willingham (English)

  • First appearance: Battle 48
  • Type: Sei
  • Martial Arts: Karate, espically utilizes the Spear Hand that uses Tame
Loki is the Fourth Fist of Ragnarok. He uses a Karate style that involves using all the joints in the human arms. Besides being a powerful fighter, he is also quite intelligent, using information about his opponents to his advantage. Despite his strength, Loki prefers to win by using any means necessary; he kidnaps Honoka in front of Hermit, after learning she is Kenichi's sister. His ultimate goal is unknown, but it seems that destroying Ragnarok is part of it; he plants seeds of doubt among the Eight Fists in order to have Ragnarok in disarray. Loki also has "shadows", underlings who look like him (except one that is obviously much fatter than the real one); he uses them to distract and confuse opponents. Berserker later defeats him after Loki attempts a Coup d'etat against Ragnarok. On chapter 306, Loki is seen sending information about YOMI to Niijima, who appears to be working with Loki to gather information about YOMI. It is said that Loki is afraid of YOMI.
Niijima states that both he and Loki follow the "Art of Evil", which is why Loki uses dirty methods to win. He is actually good looking without his goggles on, according to Takeda; he, Loki, and Hermit are among the five most handsome guys in Ragnarok.
Number 20 from Ragnarok is usually seen working with Loki. She is his eyes and ears, and is mostly seen collecting information and creating weapons for him.
He is named after Loki, a mischievous being in Norse mythology. He also is very deceptive and lies very often like his namesake.

Siegfried

Jīkufurīto (ジークフリート) Voiced by: Mitsuaki Madono

  • First appearance: Battle 48
  • Type: Sei

See Shinpaku Alliance's Hibiki Kugenin

The 5th Fist of Ragnarok, pianist, and musical genius, his only real passion is classical music. He even speaks in song, which gives him a quite comical visage. His closest friend of Ragnarok is Thor, the 7th fist of Ragnarok. It is later revealed that Siegfried is a very important diplomat as he attends world peace conferences and UN meetings. He likely has the most unusual fighting style of those in Ragnarok in that he has adapted the Sei style and merged it with his knowledge of music. Everything from a punch, kick, or throw is read by Siegfried using the speed, angle, emotion, and foreseeable impact as a melody with tempo such as a dramatic punch being animato. During fights he gets so into this melody that he actually applies great composers such as Beethoven and Mozart into the rhythm of what's going on and sings their works in the form of "La la la la's" To defeat his enemies he pretends to hit and "goes flying on his own" after reading the move used by his opponent and counters with their own energy added to his with a devastating kick or spinning back-hand. His opponents are often fooled once they take him down in one hit and he gets up to attack them whilst they are still off guard and continues this till they get wise to his act earning him names like "the zombie fighter" and "Siegfried the Immortal." But to his friends he is merely know as Sieg.

His first appearance is when he has been instructed to capture Niijima, the self-proclaimed leader of the Shinpaku Alliance whom he chases all the way to the polluted waterways singing Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain and Beethoven's 5th Symphony despite Niijima's seemingly successful attempts to KO him and less than impressive attempts to lose him and escape.

After his fight with Kenichi he leaves Ragnarok unable to "hear" the music from being defeated by "the punch with no tempo." He is pulled from his deep thoughts by Niijima playing some instrument of unknown origin which wordlessly convinces him to join Shinpaku Alliance as a high-ranking general and most loyal commander to Nijima, whom he now reveres as his "Great Lord of Darkness" (in a good way).

Later in the series he spends time training in Tibet, and returns stronger. Even Hayato Furinji praises him and exclaims that he will definitely become a master.

Taichi Kōga

Kōga Taichi (古賀 太一) Voiced by: Mayumi Yamaguchi (Japanese); Greg Ayres (English)

Kōga, also known as Kōga the Kicker, is the youngest known member of Kisara's team. Unlike Ikki and Ukita, he seems to bear hateful grudges against Kenichi, who he plans to take down himself, and Miu, whom he calls "Neko Shojo" (Cat Girl). Though he is a strong fighter, he possesses a carefree attitude, which usually earns him a beating from Kisara. He is very loyal to Ragnarok and is always eager to deliver punishments to those who betray the gang. In the anime, he is much shorter than he is in the manga.
Kōga was originally teamed with Takeda and Ukita as part of the Three Man Army and the only one that did not join Shinpaku. His current whereabouts are unknown.

Shinnosuke Tsuji

Tsuji Shinnosuke (辻 新之助)

  • First appearance: Battle 24
  • Type: Dou
  • Martial Arts: Koppou
Shinnosuke (nicknamed "Shaggy Hair" by Kenichi) was an ambitious rival of Kisara's, often getting into arguments with other members about who was stronger. Though he has a rougher fighting style and fewer techniques than Kenichi, his fighting experience more than makes up for it. He had hoped to one day lead a gang stronger than Ragnarok, but his dreams were crushed by Kenichi's logical thinking. He initially had hordes of men as followers, but after he was beaten by Kenichi's unintentional sneak attack, he lost all but two of them. Tsuji was angry at Kenichi at first, but calmed down when his two remaining followers stated that they stuck by him because he was their friend. He grows a bit of respect for Kenichi, and even informs him of Takeda's impending punishment at the hands of Ragnarok, and warns him of Hermit.
Following his defeat by Kenichi, he goes into the mountains to train. He finds a master, who is a large old man wearing a bear skin over his head that stretched down to his legs. He then decided to teach Tsuji his style of martial arts which is Koppou, in exchange that Tsuji has to leave the mountains. According to Kōetsuji, this is a style that is possibly over a thousand years old and is one of the oldest japanese styles of Kenpou and which it revolved around the kanji , which means in japan today, talent or skill to understand a clever technique in little time. However, in olden japan, Kotsu meant "core", which was for people the difference between those who knew the "core" and those who didn't was in their understanding. Kōetsuji, also said that Tsuji's way of Koppou was a little different from how it is used in regular styles. One of the techniques that he had learned were "Tooshi" or as the the Elder called it, "Koppou no Tooshi" which means "pass through", it is a move that uses the palm to disrupt the brain and cause a concussion. Tsuji was able to obtain a victory - of sorts - over Kenichi before Kenichi left for the D of D tournament. He then runs away refusing a rematch saying that he's going to hold onto the victory for the rest of his life and never fight Kenichi again. His skill has changed considerably but Kenichi can dodge it well. He also appears to harbor a crush on Miu. It is currently unknown where is however, he is most likely with his master in the mountains continuing his training.

Shiratori

Shiratori (白鳥)

Tsukuba

Tsukuba (築波)

  • First appearance: Battle 4
  • Name revealed: Battle 5
  • Martial Arts: Mixes of Karate & Boxing
Tsukuba is an upperclassman at Kenichi's school and a black belt in the Karate club. His style of martial arts is sport karate, which combines boxing and karate techniques. He is quite a strong fighter, as "he can take on two people from the Karate club at once, can break rocks with his bare hands, and break bats with a single kick," said by Kenichi during his mental meltdown. He was the referee for Kenichi's fight against Daimonji and quickly wanted to test Kenichi's skills after his win. Though he easily defeats Kenichi, he is not satisfied with his victory after he finds bruises on himself after his fight with him. When he later fights Kenichi the second time, Kenichi wins rather easily by using one of sport karate's fundamental weaknesses.

Takashi Furukawa

Furukawa Takashi (古川 たかし)

Takashi first appears in episode 8 with a group of members that tried to capture Kenichi. When he fights Kenichi, he appears to hold his own, but he snaps after he starts to bleed from Kenichi's punch and resorts to using a knife, which quickly frightens Kenichi. Fortunately, Miu knocks the knife right out of Takashi's hand with Kenichi's belt. Later on, when Kenichi is on his way home, he tries to take Kenichi to Kisara once again. This time, after a long day spent training with Shigure, Kenichi is able to overcome his fear of weapons and easily defeats Takashi, during which he rants about how he had to spend the day dodging a sword because of Takashi.

Number 20

20 gō (20号)

Loki's underling. A master of spying and stealth, Number 20 is Loki's right hand girl. She herself is an excellent fighter and has a taste for airsoft guns (carrying a FN P90 submachine gun); she also employs dirty techniques. She dresses in military fashion and is never seen without her night-vision goggles.
She also have a crush on Loki, saying to Miu, "I will use my stun rod to keep all other women away from Loki".

The Valkyaries

Freya's pupils, each of them a specialist at a specific weapons ranging to whips, fans, and kobudo weapons. Though all their names aren't revealed as of yet in the story, they pop up now and then either fighting under Freya's orders or training with her. After their fight with Shigure, they began referring her as "The Monster with the Wooden Spoon" due to their defeat and humilation by her. All of them attempting to get stronger by training with their leader. When first introduced they were sent to hunt down Kenichi, as well as Kisara for betraying them.

Yami

Yami () is a worldwide organization of martial artists who use their skills to gain power. Yami is divided into two divisions: the Hand-to-Hand Combat Division and Weapons Division. They use elements as symbol. In Battle 154 they were formed after World War II many masters lost their lives. They were formed not let martial arts disappear from their culture. They have a lot of connections to the world, mafia, etc. If one of their divisional member were sent to jail like Christopher Eclair. He break and Yami stop the investigation of him. However, both Yami and YOMI have a strict code that they must follow the rules of the victor of the defeater.

One Shadow, Nine Fist

The group of masters that control both Yami and YOMI. They fight to promote the Satsujin ken(killing fist) which they believe is the true way of martial arts as oppose to the Katsujin ken(saving fist). Silcardo also mentioned that the only reason they are together is to avoid fighting each other.

Saiga Fūrinji

  • First appearance: Battle 192
  • Type: ? (Possibly both Sei and Dou)
  • Yami Symbol: Shadow
  • Nickname:Ichiei/One Shadow
  • Type: Satsujin Ken
  • Martial Arts: Unknown
Miu's father, the son of Hayato Furinji and also heads the leadership council of Yami, known as "One Shadow, Nine Fists." It is heavily hinted that he was the killer of Shizuha Fūrinji (風林寺 静羽, Fūrinji Shizuha), Miu's mother. James Shiba, Takeda's boxing Master, also referred to him as the person he had lost to in a fight (and subsequently lost his right eye and injured his left leg) though James also said that he let his guard down. His organization is directed towards promoting the killing martial arts, which is what they believe to be the true fighting arts. This puts them in opposition to Ryōzanpaku. After Shou's death, he chooses his disciple to lead YOMI. Akisame said that he was his best friend in Battle 78. He has also taught his disciple, Kajima Satomi, that the key to winning lies in the 'heart', which is also one of the Elder's lines.

Isshinsai Ogata

  • First appearance: Battle 119
  • Type: Dou
  • Yami Symbol: Flow
  • Nickname:Kensei/Saint Fist
  • Type: Satsujin Ken
  • Martial Arts: Unknown, at least Kung Fu and Jujutsu taught to him by Ma Kensei and Akisame, seen to use Hayato Furinji's signature skills

Ogata Isshinsai (緒方 一新斎) Kensei (拳聖) Voiced by: Akio Ohtsuka

Ogata was originally going to be the very first disciple of Ryōzanpaku before Kenichi, however, the elder saw that he had evil intentions. He is revealed to be the true power behind Ragnarok under the name "Kensei-sama"(Almost everybody refers to him as Kensei and not Ogata). He is a Dou Martial Artist. He is fully seen when he goes into the mountains of Yamigata, where he meets Kenichi. He shows Kenichi the path of Asura (which the Elder wanted Kenichi to witness) and it seems he grows an interest in Kenichi, wanting him to become his disciple, though Kenichi turns him down. After learning why Kenichi came to the mountains of Yamigata, he leaves to watch his battle against his disciple Odin. He even tried to stop their fight in order to have both as his disciples, but was dissuaded by the Ryōzanpaku crew. His true skills have yet to be shown, but he can easily kill an Asian bear (described as twice the size of a brown bear.) He can deflect Alexander's sculpture with just his Seikūken. After Ragnarok crumbled, he is revealed to be one of the "One Shadow Nine Fists", the leadership group of Yami. His symbol is flow. He is the latest member to join Yami and acts as the caretaker of YOMI. Tsutomu Tanaka, the Tenchi Mushin Ryuu practitioner in the D of D tournament seems to hold a deep grudge against him.
It is noteworthy that when he first meets Kenichi, he comes off as a kind man seeking atonement; when he fights the bear, he shows his true colors, attacking the bear even after it was already dead.
And also although he is mainly a Dou martial artist he also taught Ryuto and Shou how to use the SeiDou Goui (Roar as one) which combines both Sei and Dou ki.
Kensei appears during a test run of YOMI Rachel Stanley, along with the other masters who had lost their disciples. He recommends the girl to Silcarde, but when asked by Akira Hondo on not taking care of his own disciple issues, he claimed that he still wanted to stick with Odin as he was still a worthy experimental subject. Also, he claimed to have taken up experimenting with disciple training with three other individuals, of which one whose sihoulette greatly resembles Berserker.

Alexander Gaidar

  • First appearance: Battle 180
  • Type: Dou
  • Yami Symbol: Ice
  • Nickname:Senmetsu no Kenshi/Fist of Destruction
  • Type: Satsujin Ken
  • Martial Arts: Command SAMBO
Member of YAMI, he is a master that specializes in command SAMBO, a martial art used by the Russian military. He is a colonel of the Russian army and known as the Fist of Destruction among the Nine Fists. An avid artist who can create statues with his bare hands, he is shown to be capable of switching from a nonchalant demeanor to a raging man in a second. He has taken up sculpting and painting in order to create an atmosphere of peace to distance himself from the constant fighting. His disciple, Boris draws with Kenichi in their duel in the Ryōzanpaku dojo. When Ogata meets to speak with Alexander about this on his submarine, he flies into a rage over his manipulating Boris into attacking Ryōzanpaku. He fights Akisame twice (during both fights they inadvertently create various statues while fighting, causing Alexander to proclaim that Akisame was the first person to rival him in both fighting and art), the first time was in chapter 273 when Akisame, Sakaki and Kenichi went to protect a Russian congresswoman that was targeted for assassination by him, during which both demonstrated unearthly aptitude for fine arts, creating extremely large steel-wire statues in a matter of seconds. The second was when Akisame infiltrated his base on chapter 297. In their second battle he learned Akisame's secret technique of becoming invisible after witnessing it from their first battle, which even Akisame said was impressive for a master of YAMI he also tried to prove that SAMBO was way stronger than Jujitsu. He is finally defeated by Akisame in chapter 304 when Akisame used a strangling move to counter his "March of Death" suicide technique and to knock him out for 2 seconds, and surrenders to the authorities, at the same time proceeding to disown Boris as his disciple and ordering him not to try and find him (in that order, making Boris ignore the second order). He is currently being held in a ultra-secret maximum security prison that even YAMI knows nothing about, dubbed Big Lock. His defeat and incarceration makes him the first of the One Shadow Nine Fists to be taken out in the ensuing battle between YAMI and Ryozanpaku.
Just before he was taken into custody, Alexander ominously issued a warning to all who were present that they "shouldn't think it's over just like that". It is unknown at this time what he meant by this warning, but it might mean that he would attempt to escape, or that YAMI would attempt to break him out sometime in the future.
Strangely enough, he was very certain on instructing Boris that he should always stay cool on the battlefield, because "people who lose their cool on the battlefield, die" as he says, despite being a man that loses his temper extremely easy and proceeds to destroy everything around on very frequent fits of rage.

Techniques

  • Thunderbolt in Extreme Winter - Alexander throws his opponent head first in the ground fiercely
  • Willow leaf walk - a move copied from Akisame where you disappear to your opponents blind spot

Silcardo Jenazad

  • Yami Symbol: King
  • Type: ?
  • Nickname:Kenmashajin/Demon Fist God
  • Type: Satsujin Ken
  • Martial Arts: Pencak Silat
Member of Yami, he is a master that specializes in Pencak Silat or Supreme Silat as he calls it. He is known as the Demon Fist God. He is well known for disposing his disciples if they are not to his liking, as seen after Kenichi defeats his disciple he punishes him by causing an avalanche to buries him. He seems completely unconcerned about losing his disciple, commenting in the aftermath that he could easily train someone else to his level to replace him (this could simply be idle boasting on his part though). One of the Nine Fists and he stated that they got together just to avoid proving their martial art is the strongest and that they had no companionship to begin with. Miu confirms that Silcardo was the same Pencak Silat practitioner whom Hayato Fūrinji fought with years ago in an encounter prior to the story. Evidences includes that both wear similar, if not identical masks. Silcardo has also described Kenichi as "Having the same smell as someone I met in the past." This could be a reference to the part where the Elder said to Kenichi "You remind me of myself when I was young'. He recently decided to take Rachel as a candidate for his new discple despite the fact that the green of lucha libre is still strong within her but it might be possible to pull that green out. He is always seen eating some sort of fruit, even when someone remembers him. Since Silcardo is the man who had fought with and gave trouble to Hayato Furiniji(a.k.a The Invincible Superman), then he is most likely one of the strongest martial artists of the One Shadow Nine Fists. Although their fight took place sometime ago and it is unknown if he got stronger than before. Silcardo is currently interested in a death match against Sakaki Shio after witnessing his battle against Sehrul Rahman in Chapter 350, and by extension, intrigued with the disciple that he has raised.

Diego Carlo

  • First appearance: Battle 199
  • Type: Dou
  • Yami Symbol: Steel
  • Nickname:Waraukouken/Smiling Steel Fist/Angry Iron Fist
  • Type: Satsujin Ken
  • Martial Arts: Lucha Libre
Member of Yami, and a master level Lucha Libre wrestler. He is known as the Smiling Steel Fist in the Nine Fists due to his flamboyant and goofy personality. His YOMI disciple is Rachel Stanley. In the D of D tournament arc, he is the sole representative of the Nine Fists on the island and acts as the tournament's referee. It is because of him believing in a man's romance of trespassing that allows the Shinpaku Alliance to participate in the D of D tournament. His symbol is steel. He believes that a fight must always have an audience and that the fight is for the audience's enjoyment, he also believes that after a fight the loser must obey the winner's choice of killing them or not. He has been shown to always be smiling or laughing even when angered. His personality seems to have rubbed off on his disciple since her views on fights are the same as Diego's.
Diego and his disciple, Rachel Stanley have, unknown to the other members of YAMI, made preparations for Rachel to fight Kenichi. Said plan involves inviting Kenichi and the master of his choice to a tag team battle against Rachel and Diego. Refusing the challenge or bringing an additional master would result in a bomb being set off. He is surprised to find Renka arriving with Kensei but seems willing to go on with the battle. However, it is later revealed that the true show is the soon to be explosion of the ship, described as his "Murder Show".
Upon a fiery backlash by the enraged Ma Kensei, Diego loses his composure and takes off his "Smiling Mask", only revealing there to be another mask underneath. This shocks Rachel and causes panic among several of the audience; and Ma Kensei refers to this as Diego's true face; "Angry Steel Fist". Upon this state, Diego battles with Ma with powerful, ferocious attacks, even bringing the battle out of the ring and apparently not caring for the safety of his precious audience in the brawl. It is revealed that he no longer regards these people as 'audience', them being targets on YAMI's list of elimination. The realm audience gathered in ships further off, watching the battle via real-time screening.
Diegos tried to keep kensei in the air since there is nothing a lucha libre can't defeat in the air. However he is defeated when kensei got back on the floor and said that the earth belongs to chinese kung fu. After his plan was thoroughly foiled, with the intervention of Miu, Kenichi and Furinji Hayato. At the point of defeat of the climax of the battle, he took care to make sure the camera angles were all fixated on him until the end, and declared that it was 'Diego Quality' for him to even lose spectacularly. He offers his mask to Kensei asking to be killed only to be denied, only for Kushienda to arrive and throw him overboard. He was saved by elder and is going to Big lock.
Diego fought Kensei in a ring with a cement floor. His body is said to be steel hard so most attacks don't hurt him. He also has amazing speed such as when he got around Kensei and trapped him in a headlock.
Techniques
  • Diego Bushin - Diego moves at high speed making it seem like there is more than one Diego and punches his enemy.
  • Diego Tick Guillotine - Diego flies at his opponent with crossed arms and attacks the neck with said crossed arms.
  • Diego Tick Down Burst - Diego uses his body weight and gravity to push his opponent down toward the ground with great impact.
  • Diego Tika Body Press - A body slam that can get its opponent no matter where he/she goes,Diego can also stop attacks in mid air

Akira Hongō

  • First appearance: Battle 167
  • Type: ?
  • Yami Symbol: Sky
  • Nickname:Jinetsukenjin/God Hand
  • Type: Satsujin Ken
  • Martial Arts: Karate
Yami member, he is a master that utilizes karate, he was the master of Kanō Shō (who died after being defeated by Kenichi during the D of D tournament). He scorns on using science and technology as tools to measure one's level of martial arts, but does not hesitate to raise the obstacles and difficulty level for Shou when he was in an experiment. One of the Nine Fists. He's called God Hand, most likely named after Mas Oyama, the founder of Kyoukushin Karate, who was called "The Hand of God". Evidence showed that though he was extremely hard on Sho, it was because he wanted to dispell the doubts of several other people including the One Shadow that Sho had the right to be the 'Sole Successor'. Thus, he was a stern and cold teacher to Sho so that the disciple would never lose a match, which might discredit his and Sho's reputation. However he let Sho do as he pleased sometimes, including keeping a little bird and riding on him for a while on boat.
He has some bad relations with Ryozanpaku, evident from him fingering his scar when mentioning Ryozanpaku, Sho being scared of getting caught by him when he spied on Ryozanpaku, and when information reached his ears that Sho died to save a Ryozanpaku disciple, he was displeased.
God Hand was very agitated upon Sho's death and proceeded to challenge the other masters, most of all Smiling Steel Fist who was supposedly in charge of the D of D tournament where Sho died.

Mikumo Kushinada

  • First appearance: Battle 258
  • Type: Sei
  • Yami Symbol: Water
  • Type: Satsujin Ken
  • Nickname: Youken no Urukiboshi/The Bewitching Fist
  • Martial Arts: Jujutsu
She is first mentioned in Kenichi's fight with Shō Kanō and then later shown in the Yami meeting. Shō noted that he was never able to land a hit on her though she still praised him afterwards. In a battle against various jujutsu masters in chapter 307, it is shown that all conventional jujutsu styles are founded on the principle of utilizing 30% raw power and 70% skills when executing a jujutsu move. However the Kushinada style she employs is unique as she utilizes no raw power at all (0%), but rather focuses her style on skills completely (100%). Her disciple is Chikage Kushinada, a child prodigy and YOMI member who is now posted in Kenichi's school. It is worth noting that she is the only female member within the Nine Fists so far. It is revealed that she is the daughter of the founder of the Kushinada Jujutsu style. Her mother founded the style decades ago although it is said to have died out a long time ago by one of her opponents. She also is far older than she appears as her mother was thought to have been born more than a century ago and she even called one of her opponents who was quite old, possibly in his 60's a "youngster." This indicates that she is possibly well over 80 years old though she looks like she could be in her mid 20's to early 30's. This is most likely due to her family's experimentation on their bodies to slow down their aging process. She is possibly one of the oldest members of Yami right next to Sehrul Rahman. She is shown to use Seikuken. Mikumo Kushinada is currently driving in a sports car, clashing with her japanese-style hakama, towards a destination presumed to be Diego's location not long after Diego transformed into the "Angry Steel Fist". She managed to throw diego overboard the ship, knock out Rachel, outmatch Ma kensei in speed, only retreating when elder showed up.
Kenichi described her technique as 'Zero gravity'
Hayato Furinji has revealed that they had worked together against YAMI in the past, and a flashback reveals a much younger Hayato and only what appears to be a slightly younger Mikumo in the battlefield. What has turned her to the path of YAMI is unknown at this point, however it is suggested it was after the loss of someone she held dear.

Unnamed Muay Boran Master

  • First appearance: Battle 266
  • Type: Possibly Dou
  • Yami Symbol: Flame
  • Type: Satsujin Ken
  • Martial Arts: Muay Thai, and Muay Boran
He is Tirawit Kōkin's master and a Muay Boran (Ancient Muay Thai) master. He is very proud and firmly believes that Muay Boran is the strongest martial art in the world. It is likely that he is the master Apachai knows from Yami.

Sehrul Rahman

  • First appearance: Battle 266
  • Type: Sei
  • Yami Symbol: Void
  • Type: Satsujin Ken
  • Nickname: Fists of Brahman
  • Martial Arts: Kalarippayattu
He is Ethan Stanley's master and a Kalarippayattu master. He is the oldest among the One Shadow Nine Fists. However, it isn't until chapter 337 that his full name, Sehrul Rahman, is revealed, apparently by Mikumo Kushinada, who adds "-dono" which is used for showing respect to an elder, which indicates Mikumo considers Sehrul of possessing a respectable level of strength among the One Shadow Nine Fists. He seems to be an easy going person. It appears that Sakaki might know Sehrul as he said that when he saw Sehrul's disciple, Ethan Stanley, he said that his movements remind him of someone he knew, likely referring to Sehrul. However, Sakaki could have meant that the martial arts Ethan was using looked familiar. He battles Sakaki in chapter 350 with neither gaining any real advantage over the other and with the battle ending inconclusively (Sakaki escaped out of the helicopter).

Ma Sougetsu

Ba/Ma Sōgetsu (馬 槍月)

  • First Appearance: Battle 68
  • Type: Unknown
  • Yami Symbol: Moon
  • Type: Satsujin Ken
  • Nickname: Kengou Kishin/Fierce-Fist God
  • Martial Arts: Chinese Kempo
Sougetsu is Kensei Ma's older brother and Renka Ma's uncle. He is a giant bearded fighter, who people often fear and run away from. He spent most of his life training alone and feels that strength is the only thing to live for, leading him to lose the heart of a martial artist. He becomes very jealous of Kensei's popularity with people. Twenty years ago he killed a few people which forced him to depart from China, where he was considered one of the strongest fighters. It is revealed though that he did not actually leave China for killing those people, but because he had nowhere to go. He also, unknowingly, took in Hermit as a disciple, feeling he had the same eyes as him and trained him to eliminate the weak. In the manga he was fully aware that he trained Tanimoto. Also in the manga he work for the mafia group that was targeting his uncle Ryou Ma were as in the anime the said mafia group was targeting him for beating down some of their members. Another big difference from the manga and anime is that he was more than willing to protect the group until the leader insulted him by saying that he was worse then them for not caring about his family, after which he beat down the leader this coupled with the that in both the anime and manga he was ready to die in the fire by saying that its "the way a murderer should die" implies that he might have a sense of guilt for the killing and he still might care about his family in some way.
Even though there is animosity between both him and Kensei, their brotherly love shows in many ways; during Hermit's training, he constantly shouted out admiration towards his brother while drunk. When he is later defeated by Kensei, Sougetsu begins to finally show a little sympathy. After the battle and Kenichi's failed attempt to help him, he is left for dead by Kensei feeling that he will eventually kill himself and should die as a martial artist. Sougetsu's body was not found and is still considered alive.
In the second arc of the manga, a shadow which resembles Sougetsu is shown; Kensei Ma merely states that in the island of "D of D" there is a familiar aura of a person he knew. In chapter 228, it is revealed that Sougetsu is still alive. He was aparantley hired by Fortuna to along with many other masters to defend the tournament but once Fortunas check clears he betrays him and beats down the other masters leaving Tanimoto to finish Fortuna off. It is also revealed that Tanimoto payed Sougetsu with 34 cases of rare wine plus 2 extra bottles. A brief look into his training method is that he teaches Tanimoto while they are both in combat. This seems to be the only way that Tanimoto could learn his new technique that caused the defeat of Fortuna, whom was also a Master Class fighter. Since it fits well with his personality, it may be the main method of his training. When together, it would seem that Tanimoto and Sougetsu's personalities fit perfectly together, as they are both negative persons and use banter to refer to one another. His nickname is the Kengou Kishin.
As of battle 353, it is confirmed that Ma Sougetsu is the 10th member of the Yami members and trained Natsu Tanimoto so that he could be part of YOMI, however since he has a habit to wander of whenever he pleased his seat was temporarily taken by Ro Josei; one of his few friends and a blind master class.

Divisional members

Sai Kagerou

  • First appearance: Battle 286
  • Type: Sei
  • Type: Satsujin Ken
  • Martial Arts: Sword, especially Iaidō
He is a member of Yami's weapon group and is a sword master, able to attack and re-sheath his sword without appearing to move (getting the nickname supersonic) and is also double jointed which gives him the ability to attack people behind him as if they were in front. He owns a sword, Setsunamaru, made by Shigure's father, which he received while she was still a child. When she noticed that he had sliced a bird (which she refers to as "my first friend" in half (recalling that she was unable to see the movement) she instantly attacked him; but before she made contact he had already dodged the attack. Were it not for her father's insistence that Sai leave immediately, he would have killed her. Before he left he told her that she had to wait a few years for what awaited her next, an event which she describes as her "trauma". When he works with other people he has them stay 3 meters away from him and tells them to never approach him from behind because he would instantaneously attack them with enough force to almost kill them; all of this is unintentional and he doesn't even notice. He apologizes to one of the fellow head-hunters, who was the recipient of a reflexive sword wound. At the beginning of his duel with Shigure, Kenichi is able to see the full extent of Kagerou's Seikuken. The range of his Seikuken is enormous, easily including Kenichi who was standing several feet away from him, and that his Seikuken extends even further than that.
After his defeat, Shigure takes his sword, Setsunamaru, from his possession.

Fortuna

  • First real appearance: Battle 250
  • Type: Dou
  • Type: Satsujin Ken
  • Martial Arts: ?
Yami member and arms dealer; the D of D tournament is held on his private island. He's the adopted father of the whole Pankration team members participating on the D of D tournament, but is only their "father" because of his obsession with children that have the potential to become Master Class. He hired supreme master class fighters including Sogetsu to fight Ryozanpaku but was betrayed instead. Though he considers himself Master Class, Hermit has described him as master class "garbage", meaning he is extremely weak compared to other masters. He first crippled the Shinpaku Alliance (who he was trying to make his children), but was later defeated at the combined hands of its' wounded members and Hermit while his island was falling to Ryōzanpaku and elements of the US Military.

His martial arts is unknown but he seems to rely on his enhanced senses to see through techniques and his massive size to withstand attacks. He claims in the "eyes of master class your attacks are nothing." His breath was enough to blow Matsui away and he was able to catch almost all of shinpaku's attacks using minimal effort with his arms and even his teeth. His only technique seems to be a normal but powerful punch called Poppy Knuckle.

Christopher Eclair

  • First appearance: Battle 146
  • Type: Sei
  • Type: Satsujin Ken
  • Martial Arts: Savate
A Yami member, he's part of the assassination division of Yami. He's a master that specializes on Savate, which is a martial art that is similar to kick-boxing. Christopher, Sakaki and an Englishman called Mycroft used to team up together to fight the mafia and help the FBI. Their reputation makes most mafia fearful of them. Later Sakaki doesn't like their method like killing, or taking children and old people as hostages. Because of this reluctance, Christopher and his partner attempted to ambush him and Sakaki buried them in a desert alive. Sometimes he uses women to assassinate for him. During the beginning of YOMI Arc, he's defeated by Sakaki while fighting against Kenichi. He is sometimes mistaken as a girl himself due to his long braided hair and effeminate face.

Li Tenmon

  • First appearance: Battle 157
  • Type: Dou
  • Type: Satsujin Ken
  • Martial Arts: Ditangquan
He is a Yami member from China though he is not "One Shadow, Nine Fists" shown by the fact he was not in the meeting of the One Shadow, Nine Fists. He was contact for help to defeat Ryōzanpaku by Isshinsai Ogata (Kensei). He is a master in the Chichouken martial art. Ma Kensei remarks that he is a deadly fighter who is just as bloodthirsty as his brother Ma Sougetsu when Ma Renka mentions Hermit was searching for his master. He has a daughter who is a YOMI member from China and is a disciple from him. He often hit her if she did something wrong, like call him father instead of master. After his daughter was defeated he attempted to take Kenichi himself but was defeated by Ma Kensei. Though he may discipline her ruthlessly, but there are signs that he still cares about his daughter and other young girls, with Ma assuming it's because "they are someone's daughter".

Ro Jisei

  • First Appearance: Chapter 354
  • Type: Unknown
  • Type: Satsujin Ken
  • Martial Arts: Chinese style unknown
A friend of Ma Sougetsu who twisted him in the martial arts world. Despite having been blind since an unknown fight at an unknown point in town, it is said he is a fearsome master-class fighter. Ma Kensei mentions that he was not originally a member of Yami but alludes to him having some sort of connection with them. His disciple Chou Enshin, who is has been part of YOMI since Ma Sougetsu didn't have a strong disciple, is forced to revoke his seat at Yomi but will not give it up without a death match against Tanimoto who is to take over his place. Ro Jisei has been a temporary member of One Shadow, Nine Fist in Ma Sougetsu's absence.

YOMI

YOMI is first mentioned in the manga as being Ragnarok's main rival. It is the juvenile subsection of Yami, and thus has a huge manpower and funds at their disposal. For example, Boris alone is able to command resources ranging from military helicopters to expensive solid gold insignia. The leading disciples of the One Shadow Nine Fists form the executive committee of YOMI, although no special name is given to address them collectively. Most YOMI members also seem to possess a nickname or an alias. There are currently eight active members within the executive committee following the deaths of Shou Kanou and Radin Jihan(seven if including Boris leaving to search for his master who is defeated and detained). They also use elements as symbol just like Yami(also note that they bear the same symbol as their master).

Kajima Satomi

  • First appearance: Battle 265
  • Type: Sei
  • YOMI Symbol: Shadow
  • Type: Satsujin Ken
  • Martial Arts: ? (But likely to now know the martial arts of the One Shadow, Nine Fists)
Member of YOMI and the disciple of Saiga. He has numerous scars on his body and he wears an eyepatch over his left eye, although it is unknown whether his left eye is blind, and whether who inflicted these wounds. He becomes the leader of YOMI following Shou's death. He takes a keen interest in the ex-Ragnarok members of the Shinpaku Rengou and has actively persuaded them to join YOMI, threatening them with death should they refuse his offer.
He is also apparently a good strategy board game player, in which he is shown to have beaten Tirawit in chess, Chikage Kushinada in Igo and Chou Enshin in Shogi simultaneously. An impressive feat, seeing that at least both Tirawit and Chikage Kushinada are both shown or said to be experts in chess and Igo.
His nickname has not been revealed yet at this current time, however if knowing that his nickname has to be related to his symbol, it is most likely Yama.
He also has a sense of humor, always seen smiling like Rachel Stanley and her master Diego Carlo( a.k.a The Laughing Fist), and was laughing aloud when Ryuuto Asamiya( a.k.a Odin), referred to Kenichi as just 'Stupid', where he had already defeated 3 members of Yomi by himself. Kajima openly admits with laughter that he is starting to grow an interest in Kenichi and would like to personally try his chance at fighting him when the time comes.
It is unknown how strong Kajiima is, however, he has been trained by the Saiga Fūrinji(a.k.a the Ichiei/One Shadow), who is both the leader of YAMI and obviously its strongest martial artist as he just said "Be quiet" with his ki unleashed, all the 9 Fists then immendiatly stopped arguing and became silent. In chapter 306, he's seen training by hanging from a chain only using his toes, which indicates that he possess great strength as his toes are literally lifting him up with all his body weight, yet Kajima appears practially unfazed. It has been said by the members of Shinpaku Rengou that Kajima possess a frightening presence as almost all of them excluding Thor found him to be very dangerous. Another indication is his scars which he had gotten from very difficult and intensive training with his master or from his missions, which would mean they were probably more dangerous then what the others members YOMI have faced, as he appears to be more experienced in combat than the others when it comes to talking about the ways of battle and appears to be one of its oldest members. This all points out that Kajima easily one of, if not, the strongest member in all of YOMI at this current time. It is uknown that why he wasn't the leader of YOMI but Sho.

Shō Kanō

Kanō Shō (叶 翔)

Nicknamed Suparna, a mythical creature in Hindu mythology said to possess beautiful wings; he is the disciple of Akira Hongou and leader of YOMI until his death in Battle 264.
Shou is arguably the most powerful member of YOMI and the toughest opponent Kenichi has ever fought. He was raised as a member of Kuremisago and had received extensive training in martial arts for all his life. He's been trapped in Yami like a bird cage but when he met Miu its like seeing a bright light. More than one YOMI has described him as being 'perfect', even to the point of 'too perfect' which was allegedly the cause of his defeat. Although he is shown to have acted in a goofy manner under awkward circumstances, he is highly assertive and will not hesitate to direct his killing ki at anyone who stands in his way. However, Shou plays the role of a tragic antagonist. His moves and fighting style greatly resemble Miu's. Shou chose Japan as their battlefield due to the large diversity of numerous martial arts. It was never truly said that Sho was the strongest in Yomi, but was the one with the most potiential.
Sho Kano has proven himself to be deadly opponent in combat many times throughout the series, such that Natsu Tanimoto(a.k.a Hermit), who has proven himself to be a formidable martial artist in his own right, had said that he wouldn't want to be Shou's opponent in one-on-one fight. He has several moves that he favors, the most frequently displayed technique being a forward stab with his knife hand. As Shou possesses great power and astonishing speed unrivalled by any martial artist below master-level he uses this attack many times, a display of his obvious explosive power and speed by the mere fact alone that his fingertips can pierce flesh, and create potentially lethal wounds. In fact, this attack is proven to be an effective killer attack, and only Kenichi has been able to intercept it once. He frequently uses these traits to his advantage by quickly striking at his opponents' fatal spots with great precision before they can even react, let alone defend themselves and retaliate. There are some variations to this attack; for example, he can use a judo technique after executing the knife hand, and lift the opponent's entire body under the support of one arm alone. He is also shown use a simliar attack to have knocked out Freya and Thor effortlessly with just a single attack each, with them unable to land as much as a wounding strike. Sho has probably taken the attack from one of the moves taught to him by his main master God Hand, Jinenken- Nejiri Nukite (God's Fist-Spinning Hand as translated by some). The attack comes in the form of rapid exchange of knife hands, and its destructive power is strong enough that probably no one can survive an onslaught like that without Kenichi's steel vest even though the attack still injured Kenichi despite the fact that Kenichi's was a virtually impenetrable chain mail given to him by Shigure herself, who is well mastered in using and creating advanced offensive and defensive weaponry. Another move he favors is the Gamaku (Waist Turn) which he uses to successfully break Kenichi's Ryusei Seikuken many times. Although Shou's primary fighting style is karate, he has received training from various other Yami masters as he was chosen as the Sole Successor of the One Shadow Nine Fists' martial arts similar to how the masters of Ryōzanpaku are training Kenichi to be their sole successor. As such, he uses the Seidou Goui (Roar as One) often, a move originally that of Odin to increase powers shortly, and in exchange suffer in the long run, although he can use it much more effectively and efficiently as he now knows the effects after Odin, the 'test subject' uncovered the disastrous side effects of such a move. Shou's ultimate attack is a move which consists of all the fighting styles of the One Shadow Nine Fists, named The 'Nine Strikes One Kill', not unlike Kenichi's Saikyou no Combo, can vary in all its attacks and sequence, like Kenichi's. While in a research factility he was tested with a high tech device, and one of the scientists found his brain waves, and blood pressure were abnormal to the point where he suspected Shou of using steroids. His masters denied this, stating that such a phenomenon has long appeared in the body of master-levels long ago.
Shou is deeply infatuated with Miu, having fallen in love with her upon first sight. He describes her as the 'light in his life that was darkness'. Shou's motives were focused mainly on Miu throughout the DfoD plot, and wanted to defeat Kenichi because he thought him unable to protect her. Sho's devotion to Miu was so great that his last wish was for Kenichi to protect Miu in his place.
An interesting note is that Shou appears to own several motorcycles, one of which was destroyed by Kenichi when he tried to escape with Miu, though he reappears with a new one in the next few chapters awating Boris Ivanov.
Shou is a bird-lover (and a bug-hater)and refers to people other than Miu and himself as 'The ones without wings'. In Kenichi's case, he calls him a 'worm' which must be squashed. Yet despite his cold personality, he is not without compassion and this makes him a complicated character in the story. He was shown to have spared the life of a young bird in the past despite being ordered to kill it by his master, and he had also assisted Fortuna's adopted children in their escape plan by covering up their departure from the island much to their surprise.
Shou dies shortly after his defeat at the hands of Kenichi in the climax of the D of D tournament when he shields Miu(whether he intended to shield Miu or Kenichi is left to the reader to interpret as he had reacted when he saw the gun pointed at Kenichi, but just the same we only see him fall when Miu makes the attempt to move Kenichi out of the way) and is fatally shot by one of Fortuna's soldiers. He passes away peacefully after Kenichi promises to protect Miu on his behalf and his body is currently in the possession of the military. His leadership role in YOMI is passed onto Kajima Satomi.
Sho Kanou now only returns in flashbacks of Kenichi, often of their promise to protect Miu, or in references to the other YOMI, who stills holds him in high regard.

Radin Tidat Jihan

  • First appearance: Battle 176
  • Type: Sei
  • Type: Satsujin Ken
  • YOMI Symbol: King
  • Nickname: Nagaraja
  • Martial Arts: Pencak Silat
Member of YOMI, he is the disciple of Silcardo Jenazad and uses Pencak Silat. Radin is of royal descent and is the Crown Prince of Tidat, a fictional country situated on the Indonesia Archipelago. As such he acts in an aristocratic manner and he particularly despises revolutionists. Claiming 99.9% of the world's population are made up of worthless commoners, Radin ranks himself, and surprisingly Miu, to be the 0.1% who will achieve kinghood and reign over the commoners. During his fight with Kenichi, he sees him as a revolutionist who is fighting against his own destiny as a commoner. Motivated by his belief that such revolutions should be crushed relentlessly, he will use any means necessary, no matter how unscrupulous they are, to stop these rebellions from succeeding. For example, he is not above using sneak attacks and deploying his guards to aid him, even though Kenichi was unarmed and fighting alone. Fiercely proud of his royal status, he feels greatly humiliated when Kenichi (whom he perceives as a commoner) stands on higher grounds and looks down on him and is further infuriated when Niijima throws stones at him.
In his fight against kenichi his techniques were so fast that kenichi was only able to barely counter him and even said it was like an animal was attacking him. However after kenichi used Meotude which allows him to use both fists together to counter him he started to cough blood and become fustrated and ordered one of his servants to throw an knife onto his shoulder to make his attacks slower. He also tried to use a cloth to strangle kenichi to death.
Following his defeat to Kenichi, his master, Silcardo Jenazad who was observing their fight all along grows impatient with Radin's unscrupulous ways and disowns him as his disciple. Jenazad claims that Radin has brought shame to Pencak Silat and is no longer of any use to him, proceeding to create a huge avalanche to bury Radin and Kenichi. When Radin challenged him on the grounds of lese majeste, Jenazad suavely tells Radin that his royal lineage does not matter as his status is far more superior than Radin, for he claims himself to be God.
Kenichi attempts to rescue Radin but the Nagaraja remains defiant to the very end. He curtly rejects Kenichi's offer to escape with Natsu Tanimoto and gets buried alive by the snow. His last words were " No matter how despicable my ways are, including betraying others, exhausting every possible scheme available... I will not stoop so low as to accept the sympathy of my enemies...for I am the King!"
It is perhaps worth nothing that although Radin is not explicitly shown to have died, he is presumed to be dead by other YOMI members, making him the first YOMI casualty. Back in Ryōzanpaku, Akisame reasons that Radin was fighting at a disadvantage when he follows his country's customs by fighting Kenichi barefooted on snowy grounds. This implies that Radin is very strong and if he and Kenichi fought equally, the outcome of the battle may have been different. He had challenged 10 dojos.
Radin Jihan's strength is not fully shown in his battle against Kenichi as he had fought bare footed in the snow during a terrible blizzard, so his true abilities are unknown. Radin has shown to be considerably fast as he spoke that he can run a 100 meter dash in under 9 seconds(That clearly meant breaking the current 100 meter dash World Record by at least 0.7 seconds). Radin possess great strength to top it of as he lifted Kenichi in the air with one arm though he was badly injured because of their battle. Radin is also quite skilled in the use of Pencak Silat as he used all his techniques and traits to weaken Kenichi's fighting ability by hitting all his vital spots( including eyes, neck, and even his groin). He said he has 18 styles of shirad but only displayed 2 against kenichi and claimed a 3rd one was enough to finish him.

Tirawit Kōkin

  • First appearance: Battle 188
  • Type: Sei
  • Type: Satsujin Ken
  • YOMI Symbol: Flame
  • Nickname: Narasimha
  • Martial Arts: Muay Thai and Muay Boran

Tīrawitto Kōkin (ティーラワィット コーキン)

Member of YOMI and a Muay Boran (Ancient Muay Thai) practitioner. His nickname is Narasimha (The Lion God King). He takes control of the school's karate club when he, along with three other YOMI members, transfers to Kenichi's school. He is a good strategist and plans things carefully in advance. He is also shown to be an excellent teacher in his own right: He was able to teach several people some of Muay Boran's offensive techniques on a very short period of time, to the point where Kenichi was startled at the ferocity of their attacks. This accomplishment was marred by the fact that he willingly withheld teaching them any defensive techniques, allowing Kenichi's attacks to do maximum damage. The fact that his underlings were defeated so easily was part of his plan - he taunts Kenichi, stating, "It's been a long time since you fought a regular person." Throughout their duel, Tirawit makes use of even his unconscious minions, throwing them in Kenichi's way as he attacks.
Tirawit is shown to be masterful in his psychological attacks as well. He states that Kenichi was the one that assaulted his minions, and also remarks that the damage done by Kenichi's fists is similar to the Satsujinken path he follows - evidenced by the fact he beat his classmates so badly -, which easily provokes Kenichi into making a reckless attack. Tirawit is confident in his analysis and drops his guard, knowing full well that Kenichi will hold back due to both his gentle nature and fear of hurting another person (his fear being amplified by Tirawit's psychological attacks). In this moment of hesitation, Tirawit strikes Kenichi with Yan Erawan (which translates to 'Push the Elephant'), smashing his knee directly into his heart.
In addition to his planning and psychological attacks, Tirawit is shown to be an extremely strong fighter. During his duel with Kenichi in chapter 281, it is shown that his attacks are so powerful to the point that he is able to forcibly penetrate and reduce the scope of Kenichi's Seikūken defense, literally pushing it back. With a single connected strike, Tirawit actually kills Kenichi - though he is resuscitated by the combined efforts of Niijima and Akisame. Though later informed on his apparent failure to kill Ryouzanpaku's disciple, he calmly states that as a martial artist, Kenichi is dead. This is reinforced by the fact that after his fight with Tirawit, Kenichi's fear of death has become so strong that his masters send him on a mission to overcome it. After Kenichi's training with Shigure, Boris believes Tirawit misread him, and uses this as additional reasoning to fight Kenichi. Tirawit has said more than once that despite Kenichi defeating Shō Kanō, who was both the leader of Yomi and easily one of its strongest members, Kenichi would still need more experience in battle before facing him, indicating he is a much more powerful opponent.
Tirawit is an expert at analyzing people. When analyzing Daimonji, he simply stared into his eyes and measured his pulse. However, against Kenichi, he analyzed his profile by more physical means, wrestling with him in a contest of strength during the school fesitval. In both cases he made his analysis in a matter of moments. From comments made by Kajima Satomi, a mistake in an analysis from Tirawit is exceedingly rare.
Tirawit is shown to always be wearing a formal dress suit. He has blonde hair, dark skin with tribal-like markings on his face, as well as the whites of his eyes being black (with red irises). He is also quite handsome, garnering the affection of many high school girls, some who stare at him as he walks past. He shares many traits with Natsu Tanimoto: the hairstyle, haircolor, bodybuild and even the cold, rational personality is similar.
His current whereabouts are unknown. After causing what he thought was Kenichi's end and communicating it to Kajima Satomi, he transfers schools. When he is informed of his failure to destroy Kenichi's heart by Kajima, he attempts to set off to deal with him again. Kajima promptly forbids him from engaging Kenichi just yet, explaining that Tirawit needs to let the other members of YOMI have their "turns" first. He is the first YOMI to give Kenichi a near death expeirience.

Ethan Stanley

  • First appearance: Battle 176
  • Type: Dou
  • Type: Satsujin Ken
  • YOMI Symbol: Void
  • Nickname: Pollux
  • Martial Arts: Kalarippayattu
Member of YOMI; and a practitioner of Kalarippayattu. Ethan's style is considered none wasteful in direct contrast to his sister's. He appears to be extremely skilled at stealth as he completely doesn't show his killing intent and could easily get past Miu and Kenichi's guards easily more than once. His master is Cyril Rahman, who is the oldest looking among the One Shadow Nine Fists, like his master he is in fact a very considerate person who shows little offense towards anyone, even his enemies, a trait that he apparently gained from his master. Like his master, his Yomi symbol is Void. He is an American and has a fraternal twin sister called Rachel. He seem to be afraid of his sister and sometimes plays along the act with his sister, yet it is clearly shown he cares greatly for his sister, as he punched a client who stated he wanted to "buy her" from YAMI. He appears in YOMI meeting, calling the dojos he challenged trash. He is known to have defeated 13 Dojos. He participates in the D of D tournament with his sister as Team Gemini. He is one of the four YOMI members who transfers to Kenichi's school. He doesn't talk often but he listens to his sister and master. He is shown to possess immense strength in chapter 278. Ethan also is a very skilled swimmer as he came in 3rd during the class camping trip, right behind Kenichi and Boris. He also possesses a massive figure as seen in chapter 296 which is very flexible due to tanning oil used in india as mentioned by kenichi. Ethan has currently been chosen by his master to be the next disciple to fight Kenichi, however he has had multiple chances to attack Kenichi, like when he was with Miu and Nijima, looking over the pictures that were taken of Chikage at a female student's birthday party(which was planned out by Nijima apparently)and crushed Nijima's camera, only to give him money to pay for another out of consideration. Another was when Kenichi was in the bathroom and looked like he was going to fighting him, only to end up quickly entering a stall across from where Kenichi. He has asked Kenichi to meet with him and later they are both found to talk at a cafe shop.
Interrupted during the talk to undertake a mission, Ethan once again goes into stealth to recover a stolen artifact of a fallen royal family from a foreign politician, Kenichi tagging along with him. He displays a strange style of fighting that Kenichi does not recognize and describes as 'strange'. After the mission, he reveals that he is doing extra missions in order to earn bonus points in the favor of YOMI to prevent anything from happening to his sister Rachel who has fallen from YOMI's graces. He requests that Kenichi 'dies' as a martial artist and return to normal life, the best possible solution for both of them, which Kenichi promptly refuses so he gives him his YOMI badge stating a challenge.
After many grueling missions, both to earn points for her sister and to increase his prowess in order to defeat Kenichi, Ethan issues the final date for the challenge, bearing many visible injuries due to him working on so many missions. Ethan is set to battle Kenichi with Chikage as a witness. He is last seen with a kalarippayattu outfit much like the one his master wears and currently battling Kenichi. It is perhaps that defeating Kenichi and taking the title of 'History's Strongest Disciple' would be the ultimate prize to guarantee saving his sister for him, Chikage also stated that if ethan wins that his martial art will be praised for raisning disciples and allow his sister to fall under his masters protection instead of Silcardo Jenazad the Demon Fist God, which explains his devotion. As of chapter 348 Pollux has been defeated by Kenichi using his second ultimate move taught by the elder; "Korui Nuki".
He mostly goes all out when fighting but if his opponent manages to hold on then he will use different stances and hit pressure points to weaken the enemy and make them easier to finish off.
Though he is on the side of the Killing Fist, he appears to be more suited for the Saving Fists. As many times he does not attack Kenichi when he had a chance, takes on missions of bodyguarding, and is taking on even more missions for the sake of saving his sister.
An interesting note is that Pollux and Caster in Greek mythology were the twin sons of Zeus like how Ethan and his sister Rachel are considered twins.

Rachel Stanley

  • First appearance: Battle 176
  • Type: Dou
  • Type: Satsujin Ken
  • YOMI Symbol: Steel
  • Nickname: Castor
  • Martial Arts: Lucha Libre
Member of YOMI; she is the twin sister of Ethan and a Lucha Libre wrestler. Her symbol is steel. She makes up the other half of Team Gemini alongside her brother and participates in the D of D tournament. She has a flamboyant personality and is an attention seeker. She also joined the gymnastic club with Miu.
Of Team Gemini she is the more aggressive of the two, she easily gets worked up when someone steals her show or is more outstanding at her. Other examples that indicates this is that she is the dominant one of the twins; she punches and kicks her little brother who scurries and begs her to stop despite the difference in size, and ignores his will and forces him to 'perform' in her staged scenarios. She also has a thing for battling and takes enjoyment in beating others up, she has to be almost literally dragged away from a fight after being attracted by Kenichi's unexpected charisma.
She displays her ability to manipulate and control the emotions of the crowd several times, an ability probably often exercised as she is always eager to be the centre of attention. Rachel stages her fight such that she brings out maximum interest of the audience, faking a hard battle, using her flamboyant but lethal moves to engage an opponent, and then always a dramatic end to a fight. As in pro wrestling, she decides the roles of the combatants, situating Kenichi as a 'bad guy' fighter and Team Gemini as 'good guy' fighters by falsely claiming about Kenichi's misdeeds towards them before a crowd.
Her skill is unknown to be of to what extent. Sakaki commented that she used unnecessary moves in real fights, but that was the style of pro wrestling after all. She defeated the multiple underground fighters easily with 17 consecutive wins. However she must be powerful to some extent as her enraged Master gives her permission to take out the all-powerful leader of YOMI, Shou Kanou, confidently, although at that time her brother was there to support her. However their battle does not take place as a 'True Lucha Libre wrestler does not fight audienceless battles.' In her fight with Renka Ma, "Her martial art skill is definitley not average" as said by Renka as she was easily taken into multiple grapple holds by Rachel rather easily( though one was to embarrase her by showing her panties). She has been known to dojo hunt and defeated 12 dojos.
Rachel has declared themselves to be gems that shine brilliantly in light as in comparison to Kenichi whom is described as a pile of clay moulded expertly to become a thing of exotic beauty. She also added that her gem will smash this priceless pottery one day. After Shou's downfall she claims to have taken a liking to Kenichi.
Rachel transferred to Kenichi's school, and enjoys school life greatly due to the attention she receives there. She is on the basketball team as the only girl and star player. She also joined the gymnastic club with Miu and the cheerleaders. When her opponents protest against her on the team, she rebukes them by taunting that they are afraid of a girl. Rachel loves school life to the point she attacks the troops sent by Boris' master to assassinate all of the students during a camping trip, as they are disrupting her way of glamour. Currently despite Chikage being chosen to eliminate Kenichi her and her master are attempting to lure him into a battle with them. Unfortunately Renka came in Kenichi's place
Though her battle with Renka was a draw, she abandoned the fight on command of her master to point the camera at him while the Master battle approached its climax, taking a few heavy hits from Renka in the process. Her master lost, though not without an epic show first and preparing a spectacular finish. She attempts to attack Mikumo Kushinada, but is knocked unconcious and recaptured.
Under detainment, Rachel faced the probabilty of mysteriously 'disappearing' as with many YOMI members who had lost their usefulness. Attempting to escape, she was stopped by Kajima Saito, who tells her she has nothing to worry as she was under the One Shadow's protection. Rachel undergoes many tests on her performance, much like Sho Kano did once before. The disciple-less masters review her, considering taking her as their own disciple as it would be a waste of potential to dispose of her. Silcarde commented that the 'green' of Lucha Libre was still strong in her, but said that it was possible to just pull all the 'green' out. It is possible that he may have taken a liking to Rachel as a candidate for his disciple though Ethan is afraid of the fact that Silcarde just kills his disciples away if they aren't to his liking, so is currently battling Kenichi in the hopes that his master will take her instead.
She is passed out and in the possession of the Ryōzanpaku after Sakaki took her away from two of the One Shadow Nine Fist members. She decides to stay in Japan and look for her master instead of go with Ethan to India. Ethan also left a letter to Kenichi saying, "To look after my sister".
She now appears to enjoy herself with the Shinpaku activities afterwards, but is still looking for her Master.

Boris Ivanov

  • First appearance: Battle 175
  • Type: Sei
  • Type: Satsujin Ken
  • YOMI Symbol: Ice
  • Martial Arts: Sambo
Member of YOMI and the leading disciple of Alexander; he uses Sambo. He is the 2nd YOMI member to fight Kenichi in a duel (the first was Ryuuto, though it was before he joined Yomi) and is one of the first four YOMI members transferred to Kenichi's school. He is often seen wearing a military uniform and leads a troop of similarly attired underlings. He firmly believes that all commands are absolute and must be obeyed unquestionably. As such he frequently acts in a soldierly manner.
Boris leads a troop of soldiers with him while he goes dojo-hunting. They attack the dojos strategically like a real squad would. They also have equipment, for example, helicopters and even a telegram device used in battle. He had taken out all 58 dojos on the list, except the 59th Ryozanpaku.
Boris ignores the orders of everyone except his master, even that of the YOMI leader Shou Kanou. Only after he was told to submit to Shou did he willingly listen to Shou's order. Shou has displayed dislike to some extent of Boris, claiming his camo suit stood out too much and even directly telling Boris that he disliked him.
Boris has a one-track mind; after given orders by Shou to attack dojos,he does not stop as there is no clear order to do so. He even wanted to start from the beginning again. However his list was special such that it included an extra dojo, the Ryōzanpaku dojo, a plot by Ogata Isshinsai to start the war between Yami and Ryōzanpaku. Boris does not give up his mission in the face of the formidable masters of Ryōzanpaku, and if anything he becomes more determined.
When Kenichi appears, Boris attacks without warning. Miu, in an attempt to protect Kenichi, was injured. Note that till this point Miu has rarely taken a hit before.
In the battle with Kenichi, Boris goes in a state of confusion as Kenichi not only counters all his Sambo moves, he even has the opportunity to strike back. Boris despite being a masterful reader of personality could only perceive Kenichi as a 'Come On' penguin, which contradicted with the resistance Kenichi shows. He said that all YOMI had darkness in their heart but Kenichi had light in his heart. They draw in a well-matched fight.
The fight comes to an end as Boris's subordinates called Shou Kanou, who ordered a full retreat. Even over the line Shou's killing aura was felt and Boris relented reluctantly. He passed a declaration of battle to Kenichi, an ornament of white gold etched on top and left.
Boris was put into solitary for his actions by Shou, where he met Radin and advised Radin to try out the baffling Kenichi. He holds a degree of respect for Radin and believes him to be an even better judge of people then himself.
Lately Boris was posted to Kenichi's school under orders from the new YOMI leader. Whether willingly or not is unclear.
Upon entering the school Boris acknowledged teacher Kyōko Ono as his stand-in commander. They developed a close relationship where Boris would help Kyoko out during events. However, Kyoko once expressed concern about Boris taking things too seriously, which made Boris doubt himself.
Boris helps hold a camping trip, which he uses as an opportunity to attack Shinpaku and kill Kenichi with the aid of troops belonging to his master. Boris' troops attack several people, including Kyoko Ono, which led her to fall into the river in which he and Kenichi was fiercely battling. His troops come to finish the job. Flustered, Boris attempts to make a call to his master, and when there was no response, Boris tries to distract the soldiers from Kyoko Ono to 'fall back' due to 'extreme circumstances'. When the soldiers refuses, he deems this is an 'act of disobedience' and a 'staged revolt', and attacks the troops with Kenichi as a team.
After saving their teacher, Boris and Kenichi continues their battle. Kyoko awakes momentarily to see them, and smiles to herself thinking "Boris has finally found a friend" (mistaking their fighting in a river as playing in the river). He is eventually defeated by Kenichi in chapter 304 and is currently in self-imposed exile searching for his master. As a farewell gift, he polishes all of the school windows in a single night, this left Kyoko crying tears of sadness (for him leaving) but also of joy (for his last good act as a student of the school).
It is worth noting that Boris is the first ever opponent of Kenichi's who has acknowledged his strength, to the point of even conceding that he is stronger. All opponents prior to him have always regarded Kenichi as being inferior to them during their fights. His short stay at the school has left a very good impression on the other students. Such as some students following his respectful behavior, not only by telling a pair of rowdy students to shut up during a lesson but also standing up for the teacher giving the lesson when the two insult the teacher (which was Kyoko). He has not been seen since.
Techniques
  • Circle of the shinigami - a chock hold from behind using the legs to push forward onto the back to put pressure on the throat
  • Forward march of death - Going forward and attacking without caring for your life
  • Northern tornado spin - a throw that uses the momentum from a spin
  • Sickle and Hammer - a counter that uses the right leg to catch the punch and the left leg to attack
  • Tundra's big tree- you grab your enemy under there armpits with there head down and throw them at another enemy

Ryūto Asamiya

Ryūto Asamiya Voiced by: Ken Narita

  • First appearance: Battle 48
  • Type: Sei / Dou
  • Type: Satsujin Ken
  • YOMI Symbol: Flow
  • Nickname: Odin (Ragnarok Nickname)
  • Martial Arts: Ancient Martial Arts
Ryūto was known as Odin and was the leader and easily the strongest member of the "Eight Fists" and Ragnarok. He is currently a member of YOMI, and has mastered erecting Seikūken (制空圏 lit. Control of the air sphere), a technique which allows him to create a type of barrier around his defense zone, and can thus neutralize all attacks that enter his defenses. His fighting style deals with using his palms to attack and also destroy internal organs. Though he is near-sighted, he makes up for it by possessing the "Inner Eye", an ability giving him a kind of foresight; he paces his opponents and memorizes their attack pattern in order for him to react before the opponent can even attack or defend. He also has a technique called Gungnir, which is a series of rapid and powerful palm strikes which supposedly attacks with 100% accuracy. Besides Hermit, Odin is the only one in Ragnarok to have ever met and trained with Ogata.
His actual name is Ryūto Asamiya (朝宮 龍斗, Asamiya Ryūto), and was Kenichi's friend when they were little kids, before Kenichi moved out of the neighborhood. They apparently witnessed Miu's martial arts skills when the three of them were only six years old, prompting them to make a vow to become stronger. However, he had always coveted the badge that Kenichi got from Miu, and challenges him to fulfill the "promise" of 10 years ago to fight for its possession. When Kenichi loses to him in a battle, Odin takes Kenichi's Yin Yang badge, and subsequently bends his [Ryūto's] own Yin Yang badge in half, giving it to Kenichi as a loser's present. It also seems that he took a liking for Miu as a child, and claims Kenichi is not good enough for her.
When he fights Kenichi in the final battle, Kenichi appears to have the upperhand against Ryūto until he (demanded by Kenichi) removes his glasses and shows his true strength. Kenichi's skills then prove to be no match against Odin's Seikūken. It is not until Kenichi begins to imitate his masters' style and techniques that he is able to finally overpower him, however, Ryūto becomes enraged and to the surprise of everyone but Ogata, he combines the ki of both Sei and Dou, and once again overpowers Kenichi. However, the powers of both Sei and Dou are not meant to coexist within one body; despite gaining ultimate power, he may destroy his own body, heart, and spirit. In order to save Ryūto from following the destructive path called the "Path of Asura", Kenichi manages to regain his strength. As their fight continues, the strain on Ryūto's body finally reaches its limit, thus he is unable to avoid Kenichi's final attack. As a sign of his defeat, he gives Kenichi back his Yin Yang badge, and is then taken away by Ogata.
During their final fight, it is revealed that during their childhood, when Ryūto wanted the Yin Yang badge that Kenichi received from Miu, Kenichi refused, which is when they decided to fight for it. Apparently, the "unforgivable" thing that Kenichi did back then was give the victory to Ryūto, despite Kenichi being the one who actually won. Ryūto then bought his own Yin Yang badge, but after he got it, he realized that the badge was not what he wanted. In fact, he actually just wanted victory, which is what prompted him to enter the world of fighting; to search for complete victory.
It is revealed in the YOMI arc Ryuto was formally inducted into YOMI upon Ogata's invitation when the latter joined Yami. When he combined Sei and Do the damage left him having his hair turn white, and having a blackened eye, Ryūto is also permanently wheelchair-bound due to the damage the Sei and Dou combination ki has done to his body. However, despite his handicap, he remains a formidable opponent. He is shown to have easily held his own against Shou Kanou's henchmen and Miu Furinji on two separate occasions and does not seem to have any problem in executing his Seikūken and Gungnir despite his condition. However, Miu was still able to throw Ryuto, though he still quickly broke his fall easily with his Seikūken which is an example of current capabilities in his condition. He told Miu about Sho Kanno's orgin is Kuremisago. Kuremisago is a ninja villlage that is so strong one person is an army. He told Miu that Sho spent all his life training martial arts that when he first met her he saw a light in his bird cage. After the D of D tournament he was with Boris, Ethan and Rachel reporting Shou's death to the other members of YOMI. Later after Kenichi's defeat by hand of Tirawit and Kajima Satomi asked him what kind of man is Kenichi. Ryūto calls Kenichi an idiot much to Satomi's amusement.
He is named after Odin, the chief God in Norse mythology. Ryuto bears similar traits towards Odin as he appears to possess the "Inner Eye", and uses an attack called Gungnir that is based on Odin's Spear called Gungnir that always hits his target like Ryuto's attack that has 100% chance of landing an attack.

Chikage Kushinada

  • First appearance: Battle 188
  • Name Meaning: 'Chi' (blood) 'Kage' (Shadow) = Blood Shadow
  • Type: Sei
  • Type: Satsujin Ken
  • YOMI Symbol: Water
  • Martial Arts: Jujutsu
YOMI member and the disciple of Kushinada. She is Japanese and practices Kushinada style jujutsu. She is a child prodigy and is currently a first year student at Kenichi's school. She is able to avoid detection by Niijima initially as she gains admission into the school normally and is not a foreign transfer student, unlike the other four YOMI members. For some unknown reasons, she chooses to divulge her secret identity to Miu. Kenichi is also aware of her YOMI membership and is trying to win her over to their side without resorting to fights. She calls Kenichi 'Bandaid' and never calls him by his given name. Unfortunately, she has implied to her master that she is eager to kill him. although this seems to change a little bit as she started a flowerbed and was upset about kenichi trying to water it and started to remember her master saying emotions lead to distraction and thinking about all that has happened.
Without having met her, Akisame believes that the secret of Chikage's prowess in Jujutsu is her ability to instantaneously recognize an opponent's center of gravity, a feat he considers miraculous.
Like Jihan, she considers herself above people, viewing herself as normal (despite being a prodigy) and others as inferior to her. She appears to have a sweet tooth. Kushinada is described by Miu as being the same as she was when she was Kushinada's age. Miu says this because Kushinada's eyes are the same as hers back when she was young though she says that her Grandfather, The Elder, took her on his trip of "justice" to prevent Miu from going down the wrong path because her ki is Dou so it causes her to grow dangerous urges to kill within her. Miu believes that only she can stop Kushinada from going down the Satsujiken path because she understands Kushinada the most because of their similar pasts. It is revealed that her family uses special experiments to slow down their aging process to the point her master who appears to be one of the youngest among the One Shadow Nine Fists, might be one of the oldest. It is also implied that Chikage's diet might have something to do with the slowed aging of the Kushinada, especially since she is enamored with sweet foods like cakes and candies upon her introduction to them, as if she wasn't ever allowed to have them before. Further support of this idea involves how she nervously hid the sweet-food menu she had from her master, and acts surprised and quiet when people notice her sweet tooth.
Chikage is revealed to be incredibly naive, despite her profound knowledge in many areas. For example, she believed that though a seed takes four months to bloom, if she planted a seed 4 months old it would bloom the day after tomorrow. Kenichi corrects her about this, in reply Chikage murmurs to herself that there is 'no time...'. She tries to hand what seems to be a letter of challenge to Kenichi, but is interrupted when Miu takes the letter from her. Kenichi, however, takes the letter back and declares that though the most ideal situation would be becoming friends with her, in the case where that is not possible, the next best choice would be to fight. However, on the eve of the battle, she is lured away to a party of a classmate with the promise of cake (going into a "Child Mode"), a plan of Nijima to void the potentially risky battle.
Having been tricked away from direct confrontation with Kenichi, Chikage loses her right to battle for the title of the Strongest Disciple. She punished herself for losing the opportunity by pinching herself, but is stopped by Cyril Rahman, the most recently revealed member of the One Shadow Nine Fists and the master of Ethan Stanley and of Kalaripayattu (she does not recognize him though). Her master said that she had no problem beating Kenichi but even if there was a 1/10000 chance of losing then her heart will start to open. She is currently training with her master and seems a little distracted maybe because she is starting to change a little bit mentally and emotionally much like her master feared. her master is currently trying to harden her heart even more and even crushed flowers that she tried to pick and study. She is currently present at Kenichi and Ethan's fight as a witness however it is clearly evident she is starting to question the Killing Fist philosophy and becoming more and more intrigued the Saving Fist philosophy and Kenichi himself, though she doesn't want to admit any such thing. She tends to hide her budding friendship with Kenichi with seemingly hostile retorts and reactions. For example, when Kenichi couldn't properly extend his hand to her in gratitude for her information due to a pressure point injury by Pollux, Chikage notices and shouts "Don't touch me you filthy Saving Fist!" while closing the distance and striking at his injured arm in a flurry. Immediately afterward, Kenichi notices that he had recovered mobility of the limb, also just after stating Ethan couldn't tell the location of the Yami base because he was under orders not to, Chikage stated that she wasn't and tells him, even having her limo drive them there.

Natsu Tanimoto

  • First appearance: Chapter 48
  • Name revealed: Chapter 49
  • Nickname: Hermit
  • Type: Dou
  • Type: Satsujin Ken
  • YOMI Symbol: Moon
As of Battle 355, Hermit defeated Pure Dragon in the death match and has now taken his place among the YOMI ranks.

Divisional members

Chou Enshin

  • First appearance: Battle 188
  • Nickname: Pure Dragon
  • Type: Dou
  • Type: Satsujin Ken
  • YOMI Symbol: Moon
As of Battle 353, the face of the unknown Yomi memember was revealed. He has been shown to be a temporary Yomi member to be removed when Natsu Tanimoto became of YOMI level. He is actually the disciple of Ro Jisei and seems to be outraged and refuses to give up his YOMI position, so he challenged Natsu to a "death match" for the seat of YOMI and Ma Sougetsu. In chapter 355 he loses his death match to Tanimoto.

Li Raichi

  • First appearance: Chapter 157
  • Nickname: Spark
  • Type: Satsujin Ken
  • Type: Dou
  • Martial Arts: Chichouken
Daughter/disciple of Yami member Li Tenmon and a YOMI assassin. She is not part of the executive committee within YOMI. She is a small member of YOMI and is sent to test out Kenichi's skills, to be precise, to measure Kenich's standards in a battle. She is convinced that by killing Kenichi she will earn the privilege to carry out assassinations and earn money for her poverty stricken farming family. She uses Drunken Fist of the Eight Immortals.
In real life she is a kind, affable girl with freckles who has come to Japan for 3 years. She shares many ideals with the plant-loving Kenichi.
During fights she dons guards all over her body, including a helmet similar to one used for cycling or skating. Her nickname Spark originates from the sparks that are emitted due to the friction when her guards make contact with the road, which happens to be her battle style. She is extremely ruthless when she fights and will use any means necessary to win. For example, she taunts Kisara for her small breasts to infuriate her and even would even go as far as breaking her arms to escape from Kenichi's hold.
Her skills, remarkably falls short of Kenichi who defeats her without having to harm her physically. She finally gives up on killing Kenichi as Kenichi has released her from a hold twice, allowed her a killing move and convinced her that it is not right to kill. This making her the first person Kenichi has converted since Ragnarok.
Li Raichi has made a second appearance in the manga since her defeat. She appears on the ship hosting the battle between The Laughing Iron Fist Diego and his disciple Rachel, against Ma Kensei and Ma Renka who has come in Kenchi's stead, to make up for his inability to take on girls in a fight well. Li Raichi attacks the sneaking Miu and Kenichi on the ship, though she appears not to have recognized them initially. Kenichi recognized her moves immediately, through her unique ground-based attacks and style.
Li Raichi appears to help Kenichi and Miu in stopping the bomb from exploding as she says that her first client is on board the ship so she has to stop the bomb from exploding. She appears to have a ditzy side, as she accidentally poured alcohol on Kenichi's eyes when he was already blinded by Meatman's attack. Li Raichi also seems to have an interest in Kenichi as when she heard Miu say that they weren't dating she said "Then that means I still have a chance." Meaning she would like Kenichi to be her boyfriend.

Meatman

A very large and arrogant luchador (lucha libre wrestler), shown where he believed he could survive the bomb, who is affiliated with Diego Carlo. He is an assistant instructor in that style. Not a member of YOMI, he has said that Castor (Rachel Stanley) is Diego Carlo's representative in YOMI and the one who will take the title of "Steel" and become one of the Nine Fists. He said that he does not have the potential to become a master, and that some people are "given more" than others in that regard. Miu then stated that Ryozanpaku does not comply with this.

Boris Militia

They helped Boris take the 58 dojo signs and are also seen with Boris when he accompanied his master in the assassination mission.

Radin's Servants

They're Radins personal servants from his homeland and are also skill martial artist the he uses to fight those he thinks are beneath him.

Seta and Hayami

Two teenagers who act as Shou Kanou's personal bodyguards. They try to prevent Kenichi from pursuing after Shou but end up defeated by Ryuto Asamiya.

Shinpaku Alliance

Shinpaku Alliance is a fighter group created by Niijima Haruo in order to gain power and facilitate his goal of world domination. The alliance is first introduced in episode 21 of the anime when Niijima comes to Kenichi's rescue in his fight against Kisara's group. Since its initial introduction, Niijima has actively recruited members for the alliance and is successful in convincing a number of ex-Ragnarok members to join the alliance. Following Odin's defeat and the subsequent dissolution of Ragnarok, the Shinpaku Alliance is able to cement its reputation as the strongest fighter group in town.

In the YOMI arc, the Shinpaku Alliance participates in the D of D Tournament and manages to reach the final round of the "Chi" group. However due to the injuries sustained by its core fighter members throughout the tournament and their final opponent being none other than the fearsome Shou Kanou himself, Shinpaku decides to forfeit the match. Non fighters are trained by Nijima for information gathering.

The group is led by Niijima Haruo who supervises the activities of the group. Notable Shinpaku members include Shirahama Kenichi (honorary captain), Natsu Tanimoto (Hermit), Ikki Takeda, Kaname Kugatachi (Freya), Hibiki Kugenin (Siegfried), Yuma Chiaki (Thor), Nanjo Kisara (Valkyrie) and Kozo Ukita. Miu Fūrinji wasn't an official member of the alliance (Kenichi was unaware that he had never invited her to a meeting) until the YOMI members invade the school before that she would only appeared when they needed help.

The Alliance is using Kisara's former base as their own (her dad owns the building) and Niijima filled it with traps in case on an invasion and even build a gym for the fighters to train. After the D of D Tournament Niijima officially rented the building by telling Kisara's dad that they were trying to save her from the world of delinquents with Hibiki financing them while he completely restored the building. The new building has the Alliance logo on the outside and the name on the entrance and on the inside it has a brand new gym.

Yami and YOMI considers the Shinpaku Alliance as part of Ryōzanpaku.

Commander

Haruo Niijima

Niijima Haruo (新島 春男) Voiced by: Takumi Yamazaki (Japanese); Todd Haberkorn (English)

  • First appearance: Chapter 1
  • Martial Arts: Personal Niijima-style Escape Art
Niijima was, at first, more of an acquaintance of Kenichi's, rather than a friend. Though both parties later consider each other as "bad friends", they are still friends nonetheless. He is a member of the Newspaper Club, and investigates the life of everyone, usually ranking people on his palm pilot. He is a very sly person, who looks like an alien and has seemingly alien abilities (i.e. his hairs can stand on end like an antenna whenever he senses danger and UFOs can randomly be seen in the background). He also watches Kenichi's progress with much interest and treats Kenichi as his subordinate. Not surprisingly, Kenichi refers to him as a "demon-faced alien".
Niijima dreams of eventually rule the world, so much so that he even regularly has daydreams of it, to the point where Kenichi has to slap his face to bring him back to reality. To reach this goal, he formed an organization called the Shinpaku Alliance and dragged Kenichi into it. As the comic progressed, he further managed to persuade some of the ex-Ragnarok members to join, thus significantly strengthening the Shinpaku Alliance's combat capability. He is very adept at running away from dangerous situations, always leaving the fighting to the others, a trait which Kenichi adopted, especially when facing women in battle. Despite his often cowardly tactics, he shows himself to be a very cunning individual, thinking many steps ahead and planning for contingencies to the point that both the enemies and allies have complimented on his leadership skills.
Despite the fact that he, as well as most characters, call him evil, he usually finds ways of helping his friends when needed, though he does so in his own, odd way. He has a finishing move called "Shadowless leap from the charge", which he uses to escape by switching positions with a nearby enemy. He has amazing information gathering and analytical skills, which he uses to prepare Kenchi for the many battles that he ends getting tangled into with his opponents' profiles and skills. He has trained the non-combat members of his "alliance" fiercely in the art of gathering information, and has a personal bodyguard in the form of Sieg.
Nijima's ability to collect data is chillingly effective, and in some cases, supernatural, such as the bizarre "Nijima Scan" technique that enables him to absorb ridiculous amounts of unknowable things about a person (Physical, Personal, Mental, Emotional, Skill Level, all of it...) simply by observing them for a few seconds (He was able to tell that a member of an opposing group had a crush on his ally through eye contact alone). What's more, he can ring his thumb and index fingers around his eyes to literally create a digital HUD of his target's power level and killing intent. His potential tempted Fortuna enough to try to convert him into one of his children even though he only takes kids with the potential to reach master class.
He also has a problem entering churches and other sacred places, this is shown when he becomes weakened, to the point he must be carried, when entering the church where Loki had kenichi's sister captive. Also, as he was being carried his shadow could be seen struggling and screaming, and his body was smoking.

Kenichi Shirahama

Shirahama Ken'ichi (白浜 兼一) Voiced by: Tomokazu Seki (Japanese); Josh Grelle (English)

  • First appearance: Chapter 1
  • Type: Sei
See The Ryōzanpaku Dojo
Acts as assault commander of the Shinpaku Alliance and is, along with Niijima, a founding member although a reluctant one.

Captains

Natsu Tanimoto

Hāmitto (ハーミット) Voiced by: Ryo Horikawa

  • First appearance: Chapter 48
  • Name revealed: Chapter 49
  • Type: Dou
  • Nickname: Hermit
  • Martial Arts: Hikaken and Hakkyōken
Natsu Tanimoto or Hermit was the Sixth Fist of Ragnarok. He learned martial arts from Sougetsu Ma, Kensei's older brother. His actual name is Natsu Tanimoto (谷本 夏, Tanimoto Natsu), the president of the drama club at Kenichi's school. At school, Tanimoto pretends to be a kind and soft spoken student, which plays well seeing how he is popular with both teachers and students, and is considered to be the school's "prince". He claims to have only joined the drama club to practice lying, and is only nice because he perceives popularity as a way to control people. Tanimoto pretended to have befriended Kenichi, but in truth, he despises Kenichi's "false" justice. He later fights with Kenichi, but it ends in a draw. He was not satisfied with this and disappears for a short while in order to train.
When he returns, he meets Honoka after saving her from thugs, and ends up taking her to his house. Honoka befriends him and begins to visit his house often, where she usually ends up accidentally breaking things. He soon grows fond of her because she resembles his younger sister. He is shocked to learn Honoka is Kenichi's sister, and though he gets angry at Loki for using her as bait to lure Kenichi, he was not able to go against orders that Loki claimed to have come from Kensei, who had saved him as a child. However, Odin reveals that Loki had tricked him and Hermit leaves Ragnarok. Tanimoto returns to school telling Kenichi that he will stay there until he gets revenge for losing to him. After leaving Ragnarok, he is constantly pestered by Niijima to join the Shinpaku Alliance, but always refuses. Eventually, he comes to aid Shinpaku (in order to get revenge on Loki for using him) during their final battle against Ragnarok, and defeats Berserker in a grueling battle.
It is revealed that Hermit and his sister were orphans before being adopted by a rich businessman (Tanimoto was the man's family name). After the man died, Natsu inherited the company, but unfortunately, he lost the fortune due to corrupt members of the company. When the corrupt men tried to kill him, Ogata saved him, which is why he is in debt to Ragnarok. To add to his misery, his sister died due to a disease. Her last words to him were "don't lose", these words affected him tremendously, to the point where he will continue to fight even if he is knocked unconscious as seen in his second fight with Kenichi.
Hermit's role in the YOMI arc is relatively small compared to the other Shinpaku members. He takes care of Kenichi for a short time away from Rozanpaku and after seeing how rough their master and disciple relationship is he feels its okay for Kenichi to stay with him, well part of him did anyway. Tanimoto also has information gathering operatives that work under him to help get information on martial artists or organizations throughout the underground world of martial artists. He transports members of the Shinpaku Alliance to the D of D tournament in his own boat, but unlike the others, his intention is not to participate in it; but rather to find his old master, Sougetsu. He is briefly believed to be dead when his boat is blown up by the missile defenses of the private island where the tournament occurs. He later shows up alive on the island, finds Sougetsu and trains under him. He comes to the aid of the Shinpaku alliance in their fight against Fortuna and plays a pivotal role in defeating him by using Sougetsu Ma's ultimate move, the Grim Cross, which uses his 2 previous attacks that hit both his enemy's sides, which didn't affect his body and use a third attack in the center at the stomach into a full attack by using all three attacks in a simliar manner to Gamma Knife, which focuses all the needles or rather attacks into focusing on one area to maximumize the effect of the technique, thus creating massive damage. He and Kenichi appear to have become close friends as Kenichi now calls him "Natsu-Chan" instead of "Tanimoto-Kun", though he abhores the nickname and wishes to kill him, only to revert back to his false persona after Kenichi points out that they are in public. Tanimoto also helped out during Yomi's attack lead by Boris Ivanov, and the soldiers said that he was not listed as a member of Shinpaku Alliance so it still possible he is still not officially part of the Shinpaku Alliance. However, the information Boris Ivanov's troops had was probably based on the Shinpaku Alliance from the D of D tournament, and since Tanimoto was thought to be dead at that time, the troops probably did not have enough info. It seems that Niijma also has shown to be using Tanimoto's information gathering operatives to his advantage. He is also seems to be interested in James Shiba and wants to see how well he is as a master and wishes to see how James has made Takeda any stronger since the DofD tournament. Tanimoto during Takeda's and Kenichi's fight, he was rather aroused by the fact that Takeda could even use Ryuusai Seikuken, which is one of the Elder's 108 techniques and is said that he doesn't teach anyone these techniques, yet Tekeda managed to use it. This could be an indication that Tanimoto is interested in fighting Takeda when he is stronger.

He is named Hermit, possibly due to Odin's habit of traveling Midgard as an old man.

In recent chapters Nijima says that the master of Yomi's last unidentified member is a vagrant. He may as be Tanimoto's master 'Fierce God Fist - Ma Sougetsu' as he is also revealed as a vagrant. However, that is still unconfirmed, as from preivous shots of the YAMI member, though the face is hidden, their body figures does not seem to be similar.

In chapter 353 is confirmed that Hermit is not in YOMI but has been training to become one so that he will be the permanent member, it is shown that he will fight the temporary Yomi member to become one.

In chapter 355, he finally beats the temporary Yomi member, taking the Moon token.

Techniques

  • Uryuu Banda - A palm strike where, with the principles or Hikaken, can use its arms like a whip and make it strong enough to damage metal.
  • Devil's Sadness Elbow Strike, Black Dragon Smash- a series of elbow strikes and chinese kempo attacks

Ikki Takeda

Takeda Ikki (武田 一基) Voiced by: Kazuki Yao (Japanese); J. Michael Tatum (English)

  • Type: Sei
  • Nickname: Takeda the Puncher
  • Martial Arts: Boxing
Takeda, also known as Takeda the Puncher, is part of the Three Man Army with Kōga and Ukita, and used to be a rising boxing star. However, an incident where he came to the aid of his friend caused harm to his left arm, leaving it paralyzed. He fights Kenichi to test how strong Kenichi is, but Kenichi defeats him by attacking his lower body, which is a boxer's weakness. Fortunately, Kenichi spares him and takes him to Akisame's clinic, where Akisame fixes his left arm. With this, Takeda acknowledges Kenichi's strength and quits Ragnarok to become a pro boxer once again. Being grateful, he often comes to Kenichi's aid on several occasions. Also, he, along with Ukita, later joins Niijima's organization, the Shinpaku Alliance.
In the second arc, Takeda becomes desperate to find a master similar to Kenichi, who has four of them. Eventually, he finds James Shiba (ジェームズ 志場, Jēmuzu Shiba), an underworld former boxing champion and trains under him. Recently he has been fighting in the underground. He has been wearing a retainer from YOMI arc to D of D Tournament. He later participates in the D of D tournament as part of the Shinpaku Alliance and wins his first match in the quarterfinals of the "Chi" group. However, he is defeated and severely injured by Shou Kanou when Takeda fights him in a desperate attempt to rescue Miu Fūrinji, causing him to forfeit the remaining matches. It is also revealed in his fight with Shou that he harbors a secret crush on Miu, though the crush isn't that much of a secret due to the fact that he openly makes passes at her (often right in front of Kenichi) and always calls her "honey". Kenichi may have overlooked the fact of his infatuation at the beginning as Takeda was often not serious and a joking guy outside of battles.
During his discipleship under James Shiba, he undergoes extensive and demanding training not unlike Kenichi's at the Ryōzanpaku dojo. As a result, his fighting prowess has been greatly increased, making him a reliable ally and strong asset for the Shinpaku Alliance. Unlike Freya and Thor, he is the only person who manages to block Shou's attack when he assaults them for attempting to rescue Miu Fūrinji and is not knocked out instantly like the other two, implying he is even stronger than Freya who is previously a Three of Cards of Ragnarok. In chapter 267 he and Ukita didn't graduate 3rd year. Takeda currently is challenging Kenichi to fight against him once again not only to see how strong he has become, but thinks it is the best way to get stronger to help fight against YOMI. In Chapter 318, Takeda's skills are further demonstrated as he is able to block Kenichi's Kao Loy with just both his arms, or more specifically, his knuckles as they were so strong that even Kenichi was shocked by their power. Takeda showed Kenichi that he could use his signature technique, Mubyoshi, using it against Kenichi during their bout, without having the drawback of aligning hands or moving in close, though his version of the technique is named "Auto-Rhythm" (using the same Kanji as Mubyoshi). Akisame explains that the power of the Auto-Rhythm however, is a few levels below Kenichi's Mubiyoshi. He is fighting Kenichi right now and will confess his love for Miu if he wins. In chapter 320, Takeda shows he can use Ryūsui Seikūken as well, although Kensei said it was shallow, but definitely a Ryūsui Seikūken. It is implied in chapter 321 that Takeda can only use Ryūsui Seikūken every now and then because it is inconsistent. Also, it is hinted that he has yet to reach the second level of Ryūsui Seikūken to "become one with your opponent." He lost the match when James stopped him while he was fighting unconscious.

Techniques:

  • All Range Punch: Multiple punches thrown from all directions.
  • Meteor Straight: A rabbit punch launched from a throw.
  • Auto-Rhythm: Similar to Mubiyoshi, but relies on back muscles instead. Although weaker then Mubiyoshi, it is faster which allows Takeda to use it in rapid fire.
  • Ryūsui Seikūken: How he learned this technique is unknown since elder never taught; it's implied it was obtained through him and his masters own efforts.

Hibiki Kugenin

Jīkufurīto (ジークフリート) Voiced by: Mitsuaki Madono

Kugen'in Hibiki (九弦院 響)

  • First appearance: Chapter 48
  • Type: Sei
  • Nickname: The Immortal Composer Siegfried
  • Martial Arts: His style of Go no Sen (original name being Rondo Attack), possibly based on from Wing Chun
Hibiki Kugenin or Siegfried as he is referred to as was the Fifth Fist of Ragnarok. He is also called "the immortal composer" due to the fact that he composes music by using his battles as inspiration for his melodies. He has a tendency to hum or sing classical music during his fights and his attacks are named after different music scores and compositions. Like his namesake, he appears invincible, always getting back on his feet after taking a severe beating. This is actually due to his fighting style which uses counters and dodging an opponent's attack by the slightest margin. As such, he usually falls down on his own to fool his opponents. He is later defeated by Kenichi after being hit by a powerful punch Kenichi created himself. After their battle, he goes on a journey to find himself. Niijima later convinces him to join the Shinpaku Alliance in Battle 110, where he acts as the Alliance's combat leader, but mostly as Niijima's personal guard. In Battle 130 he can fight of Kensei's anesthic just by will power. A job he takes very seriously threatening even his own team mates if they go against Nijima who he calls his "dear demon king". He tends to only dodge attackers until Nijima orders him to attack and even feels pride if he was able to help Nijima in anyway, even when Nijima used his unconscious body as a human shield.
He is named after Siegfried, a character from an opera of the same name by Richard Wagner, hence Siegfried's obsession with music. Keeping with the norse mythology style of Yomi, Siegried was a variation of Sigmund, a hero of norse mythology who slayed a dragon and bathed in its blood, gaining immortality, except for a single point which was covered by a fallen leaf.
As the threat of Yami becomes apparent, Siegfried travels to Tibet for further training. During the D of D tournament he sky dives into the arena just in time to help Shinpaku which is short-handed due to injuries, and is outnumbered fighting the Capoeira team. His training has made him virtually unbeatable, he is capable of dodging two people attacking at the same time with little effort, he can even turn his head a whole 180 degrees due to his training, a fact that makes Kenichi doubt his humanity. It is stated in this fight by Shio Sakaki that Siegfried specializes in a Go No Sen (striking last, hitting first) style of fighting and he is almost a master class in this technique. He could have actually defeated the entire capoeira team including the leader by himself, however he hesitated because he was waiting for Niijima to order him to attack, after shocking everyone with his newfound power he collaspes from severe lack of sleep due to him searching for the Shinapku Alliance non-stop for three days straight. During the fight Siegfried claims that he has no more weaknesses not even a leaf which is a reference to the legend of Sigurd. The Elder claimed that someday, Siegfried will definitely become a master class fighter.
It is also revealed in the manga that Siegfried is very wealthy. He is solely responsible for providing all the funds necessary to reconstruct and renovate the Shinpaku Alliance's headquarters.

Yūma Chiaki

Tōru (トール) Voiced by: Naomi Kusumi

Chiaki Yūma (千秋 祐馬)

  • First appearance: chapter 70
  • Type: Dou
  • Nickname: Thor
  • Martial Arts: Sumo
Yūma Chiaki or Thor as he is refferred to as, was the Seventh Fist of Ragnarok. He fights using a combat-sumo fighting style and joined Ragnarok in order to make his dream of making the combat-sumo style mainstream. Despite being in Ragnarok, Thor has a high degree of honor, and considers upholding the rules of combat-sumo wrestling his top priority. He runs a fighting ring, where he is challenged by Kenichi. Before the duel, both state conditions: Kenichi's is to have Thor quit Ragnarok, while Thor's is to have Kenichi train under him. Kenichi wins the battle by throwing Thor out of the ring, and Thor honors their agreement, though he gets a severe beating from the members of the Eight Fists League because of it. Thor believes that the Shinpaku Alliance is composed of true comrades, unlike Ragnarok. Siegfried is the only person he believes to be his comrade. He later joins the Shinpaku Alliance as a favor to Siegfried. However, since he promised to quit "fighting", he defeats Loki's subordinates under the pretense of "practicing" his techniques.
He is named after Thor, the Norse Thunder God.
Thor participates in the D of D tournament as part of Shinpaku. He is gravely injured by Shou Kanou when he attempted to save Miu Furinji, confining him to the sick bed and rendering him unable to fight in the later matches. Near the end of the YOMI arc, he is one the Shinpaku members who defeats Fortuna. His most powerful attack is called Thor's Hammer.
An interesting note about Thor is that he was never trained by any master in combat-sumo, yet he achieved his level by pure hard work and training. Ikki Takeda even say that Thor who achieved his level without a master is " simply beyond belief", this shows that underneath his stupidity, he is a genius which shows through his determination and hardwork as a martial artist.
Another intersting note about Thor is that he shares many traits with Edmund Honda from the Street Fighter series, in that they are both Sumo wrestlers who wish to prove the worth of Sumo as an actual combat art.

Kisara Nanjō

Nanjō Kisara (南條 キサラ) Voiced by: Minami Takayama (Japanese); Colleen Clinkenbeard (English)

  • First appearance: chapter 12
  • Type: Dou
  • Nickname: Valkyrie
  • Martial Arts: Taekwondo
Kisara Nanjō who also is Valkyrie, was the most recent member of Ragnarok to be made a Fist, transforming what had been the "Seven Fists" to the "Eight Fists". Kisara is a kicking expert focusing on Tae Kwon Do. She hates, above all else, being treated as weak because she is a girl, due to a past opponent claiming he 'let' her win because she was female. However, she later develops a degree of respect for Kenichi after their fight, where he guards during the entire fight, in order to slow/stop Kisara's advance to ruin Miu's play. She calls Miu 'ushijichi', translated to "Dairy Cow", since she believes Miu's big breasts are excessive.
Later on, it is revealed that she has a very soft spot for cats, especially kittens. When she was little she used to have a kitten named Noir that ended up dying to protect her during a dangerous encounter with a stray dog. When Kisara later helps a stray kitten, she is unfortunately spotted by Miu and Kenichi who eventually tries to help Kisara find a new home for the stray. She ends becoming a target of the Valkyries, Freya's female subordinates, due to the suspicions of being a spy for the Shinpaku Alliance. When they finally attack her, she is unable to fight with her full strength due to her attempts in trying to protect the kitten. However, she is aided by Kenichi, and strangely Shigure who defeated the Valkyries with a wooden spoon after being persuaded not to use a sword by Kenichi, and is able to drive them away. After the fight with the Valkyries, she decides to officially resign herself from Ragnarok. Soon after, Siegfried convinces her to join the Shinpaku Alliance through her love of cats, by presenting three kittens and telling her that they'd join if she did, Niijima referred to this as a frontal attack. In volume 27, Kisara creates a powerful style that specializes in cat movements (even to the point of scratching her head using her leg).
During her fight with the Valkyries, it was revealed that before becoming a Fist, Kisara was part of the Valkyries, and was one of Freya's most loyal subordinates. However, Kisara aims to be her "own master" and decided to quit since all the Valkyries used weapons. She seems to have some respect for Freya and wishes to be stronger than her, another reason why she quit the Valkyries.
Kisara later participates in the D of D tournament with Shinpaku. During this time she discovers that Ukita has a crush on her and appears to be embarrassed about it, even blushing in his presence. She also expressed happiness over the fact that they would be attending the same class when starting the second semester of school, even exhibiting jealousy when he met Rachel Stanley and Renka Ma and kicks or punches him anytime he shows attraction to another girl. This indicates that she has similar feelings for him.

Kaname Kugatachi

Fureia (フレイア) Voiced by: Atsuko Tanaka

  • First appearance: chapter 48 and 70
  • Type: Sei
  • Nickname: Freya
  • Martial Arts: jōjutsu
Kaname Kugatachi or Freya as she is referred to as, was the Third Fist of Ragnarok and she uses Kugatachi style jōjutsu. She joined Ragnarok in order to learn techniques from Ogata, but she never met him before Ragnarok. Freya has her own personal (attack) squad called the Valkyries and believes that in order for women to be as strong as men, they have to resort to using weapons. Like Berserker, her true skills have yet to be displayed, however, she can use her weapons so fast that Kenichi is unable to follow her attacks, despite being used to his masters' fast movements.
Despite strongly believing in the rules of Ragnarok, she is not completely heartless ; she let Kisara, a former loyal subordinate, go peacefully after she storms their headquarters and declares a challenge against Freya, saying that she had already been punished for her treachery by the Valkyries. After three Fists quit Ragnarok, she begins to wonder the mystery behind the Shinpaku Alliance since the Fists quit after meeting them. Kisara later defeats her in the final battle by breaking her staff, after which Freya refuses to continue, believing that once her staff is broken, it is already her defeat. In addition, she acknowledges that Kisara has become strong.
She is named after Freyja, a Norse fertility goddess and leader of the Valkyries.
Freya fights as part of Shinpaku during the D of D tournament, first wanting no part of their group until coerce that she could fight strong opponents at the tournament. In this story arc, she mentioned liking Ukita the Thrower because "his big" indicating that she likes big, strong men. She is also a bit naive believing Kensei when he told her to do a sexy pose telling her it was "training" or it could just be that she would follow the advice of any one Master level to further better herself and her techniques.
Despite being a very strong fighter and almost not caring about being a woman, she has a fear of mice which she displays with very girlish reactions (jumping into Thor's arms to escape the mouse much to his enjoyment). In chapter 277 she graduated high school and became a first year in college. She also teaches in her family's dojo.

Miu Fūrinji

Fūrinji Miu (風林寺 美羽) Voiced by: Tomoko Kawakami (Japanese); Carrie Savage (English)

  • First appearance: Chapter 1
  • Type: Dou
See The Ryōzanpaku Dojo
One of the latest captain to join due to Kenichi not noticing he never invited her. When Niijima told her to come to the meeting to discuss YOMI, she was overjoyed to finally be part of a group.

Renka Ma

Ba/Ma Renka (馬 連華) Voiced by: Mika Kanai

  • First appearance: Chapter 66
  • Type: Dou
  • Martial Arts: Chinese Kempo
Renka is Ma Kensei’s 16-year-old daughter. She came to Japan in search of her father, who she planned to take back to China. Despite treating him with disdain at first, she soon took a strong liking to Kenichi and showed this openly. She is constantly vying with Miu for his attention. This greatly annoyed Miu, possibly even making her feel jealous, which was alleviated by Renka behaving in a catlike manner which Miu has a soft spot for. She began to acknowledge Kenichi's style of martial arts after her visit to the the dojo, and later gives him advice on developing his own fighting style.
In the second arc, Renka wanted to have a date with Kenichi. Renka appeared again to assist Kenichi in the battle against Yami disciple SPARK, who specialized in the Drunken Fist martial art.
Having trained in Chinese kenpo since her childhood, Ma Renka is a highly talented martial artist. Although her true prowess in combat has yet to be shown, she has demonstrated an insight into master-level fights that few other non-master class characters have displayed. In chapters 309-312, during the fight between Apachai and Kei Retsumin, a master sent to assassinate the three headed dragon group, she was able to read most of the shockwave orbits that surrounded the 2 combatants and was even able to guide Kenichi through them as he attempted to remove the birdcage on Kei's head. It is worth noting that the three headed dragon group were present during the fight, and although they proved to be formidable martial artists during the D of D tournament, none of them were even aware of the shockwave orbits. Even Kenichi was initially unable to see them, although he was later able to once he discovered that the shockwave orbits utilized principles similar to those behind Ryuusui Seikuken.
In chapter 313 she transferred to Kenichi's school and started a fight with the YOMI member Chikage Kushinada but stopped fighting at Kenichi's insistence. Having spoken with Miu about Kenichi's plan she agreed not to reveal Chikage's membership of YOMI or fight her. She then met several members of the Alliance and claimed the title of leader which she justified by beating Nijima in battle (which Kenichi describes as "the reasoning of a savage") when he was incensed by her claim. She then declared that she’d defeat them all to solidify her claim. The fight was broken up before it could begin once again at Kenichi's insistance and Renka apologized profusely which led to Ukita and Takeda accepting her. When Kisara notes how similar Renka is to a cat she accepts her despite previously disliking her due to how well endowed she was in comparison to herself. Later she is shown fighting alongside Ryou Ma's two disciples against a Master class fighter intent on fighting Kensei. The 3 of them defeat him with minor assistance from Takeda. Renka impressed with Takeda's powers insists they should spar which results in them battling with Renka blissfully unaware of how much they are putting at stake.
When Kenichi is invited to a tag team match between a master of his choice and Diego and Rachel, Renka chooses to step in on his behalf due to his absence at the time and his unwillingness to hit women.

Vice Captains

Kōzō Ukita

Ukita Kōzō (宇喜田 孝造) Voiced by: Tōru Ōkawa (Japanese); Mike McFarland (English)

  • Type: Dou
  • Nickname: Ukita the Thrower
  • Martial Arts: Judo
Ukita, also known as Ukita the Thrower, is part of the Three Man Army with Ikki Takeda and Kōga Taichi. Ukita was originally from the Judo club before becoming a member of Ragnarok. While decrying Takeda as having the attitude of a "sportsman", he felt a strong enough friendship to stand with him against Ragnarok's edict of execution after Takeda quit Ragnarok. He also quits Ragnarok when he switches sides during an ambush on Takeda and rejoins the Judo Club. He, along with Takeda, later joins the Shinpaku Alliance. He appears to have a crush on Kisara. It is mentioned that he has pet cats as Kisara thanks him for the photos of them. He seems to have grown close to Kenichi during the later chapters and even learns of many things about him that most of the members of Rozanpaku and Shinpaku don't even know about.
Often made fun for being absolutely clueless around women, his luck seems to swerve during the D of D Tournament. After overhearing him admitting his feelings for Kisara to Kenichi, Freya admits to her she "wouldn't mind him". Kisara herself is starting to show signs of possible feelings for Ukita, such as getting nervous when he approached her for help dealing with Shou's attack on the other Shinpaku members and being very angered over Niijima's SFI plan that included sacrificing Ukita. In chapter 267 he and Takeda didn't graduate 3rd year.
An interesting note is that he was, much to his disdain, the only one doing normal training before the D of D tournament.

In the D of D tournament he fought the first round because to avenge his master when YOMI took over his school. He fought a good fight but lost, and was later avenged by Takeda. His finishing move is the 'Back Machine Gun', which uses high-speed rapid punches against the enemy behind him.

Three Headed Dragon

  • First appearance: 201

Hailing from the Black Tiger White Dragon Alliance in China, a rival organization of Master Ma's Phoenix Martial Artists Alliance; the team is represented by Kaku Shin Ten (Taichi Clan), Chou Yin Lin (Bagua Clan), and Yo Tekai (Shin Yi Clan). They are Kenichi and Miu's first opponent in the tournament. The team fights by deploying a special formation which combines the circular movements of the Baguazhang, straight movements of the Shin Yi-ken, and spiral movements of the Taichiquan. The match eventually was won by Ryouzanpaku when Kenichi defeats Kaku after a long and grueling duel. Upon their defeat, the Three Headed Dragon leaves their organization and is shown to have returned to Japan with Renka Ma in chapter 309, with assassins sent by the organization in hot pursuit of their trail.

Kaku Shin Ten

Leader of the team and the strongest among the trio. He practices Taichiquan and holds a deep resentment towards Master Ma, and appears to know Renka and Ryū Genson. He is a cold, calculative and heartless person who sees his teammates as nothing but mere decoys to be manipulated. Upon his teammates defeat, he engages Kenichi in a duel and proves himself to be a formidable opponent, inflicting grave injuries on Kenichi and comes close of killing him numerous times during the match. His finishing move is a powerful secret technique called Raisei. He is defeated by Kenichi who is able to counter his move by using the Taiho Shouha.

Kaku, along with Chou and Yo have left China and the three of them are currently in Japan under the protection of the Ma clan from the assassins sent after them by the Black Tiger White Dragon Alliance.

Chou Yin Lin

Practitioner of Baguazhang. After Yo is defeated, she duels with Miu. She is defeated when Kaku refuses to come to her aid, who opts to observe Miu's power level instead. She is currently on the run with Yo and Kaku from the Dragon Alliance being sheltered by the Ma family.

Yo Tekai

Practitioner of the Shin Yiken. He wears an eye patch over his right eye. As Kaku usually remarks, Tekai has a very strange sense of humor. During their fight against Ryozanpaku Team (Kenichi / Miu), as the stage was switched to a rural place with an old-looking small house, he claims that is his house. After a number of people look confused towards this sentence, Tekai ends the joke with "just kidding". He is the first one on the team to be defeated by Ryouzanpaku (specifically, Miu).

Team Gemini

One of the two teams favoured to win the tournament as their members are the YOMI twins Rachel and Ethan Stanley, the other being the Pankration Team. Team Gemini eventually forfeits their match against Shou Kanou as Diego Carlo ordered her to retreat as she shouldn't fight to an empty crowd, paving the way for Shou's duel with Kenichi in the final.

Black special force

Defeated by the Shinpaku Alliance in the first round of the tournament. Despite being rated very high and considered proven assassins, Takeda and Thor managed to defeat 4 out of the 5 members easily on an open brawl.

Flaming Wire K

Leader of the team, avoided Takeda and Thor's rampage to stay for a competitive match-up. Matched up against Freya on a weapon battle, he ends up losing. He uses metal wires as a weapon to kill his opponents.

Shirahama family

The good kind hearted family of Kenichi. Though they are normal, they appear to be a Master Class with a talent of theirs: Honoka being a Master Class at Othello and Motosugu being a Master Class at marksmanship.

Honoka Shirahama

Shirahama Honoka (白浜 ほのか) Voiced by: Tomoe Sakuragawa (Japanese); Cherami Leigh (English)

  • First appearance: Chapter 2
Honoka is Kenichi's 13-year-old younger sister, who cares for her brother greatly to the point it appears she has a brother complex, often competing with Miu for his attention. The second time she visits the Ryōzanpaku dojo, she shows Shigure and Apachai how to properly make tea, which impresses them. Honoka soon becomes good friends with Shigure and Apachai, and consequently visits the dojo regularly to play with them.
She later befriends Natsu Tanimoto (aka Hermit) after he saved her from some thugs. When Loki appears, she demands why he wants to hurt her brother. As a result, both Hermit and Loki are shocked that she is Kenichi's sister, and Loki decides to kidnap her, despite Hermit's protests. In the end, however, Hermit ends up being the one to save her.
Honoka is also extremely talented in the game Othello, which she often plays with Apachai and Tanimoto. As a result of trying to beat her, Apachai has become so good at the game that of the other masters, only Akisame can beat him, and then only barely. Tanimoto is often forced to do anything she asks after he loses (which is always), though he refuses to quit challenging her due to his refusal to accept defeat. This often results in him having to take her on dates or having to cook for him, appearing to use him as a replacement for her brother since he is always training.

Mototsugu Shirahama

  • First appearance: Chapter 9

Shirahama Mototsugu (白浜 元次)Voiced by: Daisuke Gōri (Japanese); John Swasey (English)

Mototsugu is Kenichi's protective father and is gradually impressed with Kenichi's growth as a man, but feels sad that his son is growing further and further away from him. He has two shotguns named Sebastian and Maximilian, which he often tries to take with him in order to take back Kenichi from the Ryōzanpaku dojo, however, his wife manages to stop him every time. Despite his foolish attitude, he is actually very skilled in its use (good enough for Shigure to say that he was pretty good), and when he finally shows up at the dojo (with a new hunting rifle his wife doesn't know about, named Rotowski) he is able to carry Kenichi under his arm, the gun in the other, reload while on the run, and has a good enough aim to stop Shigure's traps. He later wins a prize in clay pigeon shooting. It may not be a coincidence that his character design is similar to Golgo 13.

Saori Shirahama

Shirahama Saori (白浜 さおり) Voiced by: Ai Orikasa (Japanese); Cynthia Cranz (English)

  • First appearance: Chapter 2
Saori is Kenichi's mother, who is the only calm and collected member of the Shirahama household. She always has to subdue her husband whenever he gets too excited and tries to go to the Ryōzanpaku dojo with Sebastian. Other characters

"James Shiba"

  • First Appearance: Chapter 173
  • Type: Dou
  • Martial Arts: Boxing
A former champion boxer famous in the underworld nicknamed "The God of Destruction", James lost his right leg and eye in a fight with Miu's father; since then he became a hermit, living under a bridge in a shack which contains a boxing gym, coming out only to play Pachinko. After Takeda witnesses him defeat a team of thugs outside a Pachinko parlor, he immediately sets out to become his disciple; during which Takeda was made to do various hard tasks as his test: he had to first find a non-existent two headed pachinko ball (which he found nearby, having been dropped by chance); then run to the sea while dragging a tire, find a rare breed of fish and seaslug, and then sing Tan-Tan-Tanuki while doing a hundred Hindu squats at a police box on the way back (he found them on his first try, the police cheered him on, and an old woman gave him a bento), all of which he passed. Like Takeda, Jame's best punch is left straight.
James and Akisame know each other and are engaged in a mustache feud, with Shiba frequently insulting Akisame's; the two seem to have a strange relationship, as they both force their respective disciple to run a marathon while carrying them. James is not above taking advantage of Takeda, having him fight in betting matches in order to supplement his own income. James also keeps various pets and names his moves after them. In Battle 321-322 he is shown he cared about Takeda by forefiting the match although he said it is foolish to break his source of money and he forgot the bet of cutting off his mustache if he lost. Akisame said he improved a lot since he cares about Takeda's well being.

"Sensei"

A former pro-wrestler, he is the boss of the gangsters Miu defeated in the first chapter of the manga. He first makes an appearance when his men try to attack Kenichi and Akisame when they were searching for Miu, his fight is used by Akisame to show Kenichi how jujitsu fighter battle larger opponents. He appears later at a race track where Sakaki takes him out in one punch. He is probably a decent fighter but no where near the strength of the masters of Ryōzanpaku. His name is unmentioned, but his men call him sensei.
He calls Sakaki "Leather Jacket" and Akisame "Grim Reaper with a Mustache" and considers them monsters.

In a sequence that only occurs in the anime, in order to spend more time with Kenichi, she tries to enter the Ryōzanpaku dojo, but does not pass the entrance exam when she fails to do ten push ups- not being able to do a single one.
She is later seen often trying to ask Kenichi on a date, though something always interrupts.

  • First appearance: Chapter 2
Daimonji is a member of the same Karate club Kenichi initially was a part of. Though he uses his great physical strength to his advantage (which he gained by training his body since middle school), he actually does not appear to have a fighting style of his own. He bullies Kenichi very often in the Karate club, and one day offers Kenichi a chance to stay in the Karate club if Kenichi were to beat him. After Miu teaches Kenichi a technique, and trains him at the Ryōzanpaku Dojo, Kenichi wins the match. Though Daimonji lost, he did not leave the Karate club, rather Kenichi did. Daimonji was very humiliated because of the match and wanted revenge against Kenichi. He destroys Kenichi's plants in the Greenhouse and fights him once more, though he loses again.
In the YOMI invasion arc, he becomes the club's punching bag when one of the YOMI members, Tirawit Kokin, takes control of the club. Soon after Tirawit figures out Daimonji is too weak to be of any use, he is used as a lure to draw Kenichi into a trap. Immediately after the duel between Kenichi and Tirawit begins, Daimonji runs away. As he runs from the fight, he trips over Kenichi's watering pail, and realizes that he must go back to aid Kenichi. He summons the Shinpaku alliance out of desperation, and inadvertently assists in buying time for Akisame to revive Kenichi. Due to his bravery in helping their disciple despite the possible dangers, Akisame thanks Daimonji on behalf on Ryouzanpaku.

Her father, a famous gunman named Lancelot Grey, was murdered by his nemesis Fortuna, who is a member of Yami. During the military raid on the island, she displays master level marksmanship. She also considers herself to be Sakaki Shio's fiancee (due to him asking her to marry him one time when he was really drunk, and she being very young and innocent at the time accepted). She is also a very jealous/protective person since she was outraged at seeing Shigure helping Sakaki during the D of D tournament thinking they were together and loudly stating that she (Jennifer) is supposed to be Sakaki's only fiancee.

After being defeated by Kenichi, both apologized since the cause of the fight was a simple misunderstanding: they only wanted Renka to return to the restaurant to calm Ryō down, who has been beating on the local mafia since Renka left.
They were both mentioned by Kenichi in 312, when he, Renka, Apachai(who was the martial artist who was fighting) and the Three Headed Dragon team against the special assassin, Rei Retsumin nicknamed the "Human Calamity" that was sent by the Black Tigar White Dragon Alliance to kill the the members of the Three Headed Dagon team. Apparently, Rei used the same style as Koan, only on a far greater plane and technique that was far more ruthless.

She seems to be rather gullible as she did not seem to care that Kenichi was in "the bathroom" for her entire class. Comically, both Kenichi and Boris believe that she might secretly be that of a Master Class for her ability to sneak up on Boris without him knowing and able to peacefully sleep during the Russian troops attack on the campsite.

Chihiro Takashima

Takashima Chihiro (鷹島 千尋)

Her jealousy has greatly diminished since last year and appears far more scarcely than before.
