Reconstructor is a program that allows anyone to customize an ISO image of Ubuntu or its variants (Kubuntu, Xubuntu) (create a remaster).
Features
- Ability to customize GNOME, KDE3, KDE4, XFCE4, LXDE, IceWM, WindowMaker, Fluxbox, TWM, and Enlightenment Desktop Environment / X window manager via a Chrooted Xephyr window introduced in version 2.9
- Ability to customize the Boot image, Boot Progress Splash (usplash), wallpaper, Gnome Splash Screen, GDM theme, and other settings[3]
- Ability to add software to the new compilation [4]
- Ability to enable all the repositories and add custom ones [4]
- Integrated option to burn the iso [4]
- Ability to use graphical programs inside the chroot (experimental in version 2.8.1)[5]
Future developments
Reconstructor 3 seems to be already in development [6]. Planned features include Chrooted X (allowing easier customization of some things) and the ability to create a Live USB[7].
