"Load Me Up" is the second single of Matthew Good Band's third studio album, Beautiful Midnight. The song reached #1 on Canada's Alternative chart,[1] and received notable radio airplay. It remains to be one of Matthew Good Band's most popular songs.
Music video
The music video for "Load Me Up" was directed by Bill Morrison and produced by Paddy Gillen. The video features a dream sequence of all four band members being chased by dozens of private school students. The ending of the video created controversy, as it features a student staring at Matthew Good in his bedroom as he awakes from his dream. The camera than slowly moves behind the student, showing a large knife in her hand behind her back as the video cuts to black.
Trivia
- The music video was filmed over a three day period in many popular locations in Vancouver, such as the Pacific Coliseum, the Pacific National Exhibition and the Vancouver Aquatic Centre. This video had the highest budget of any MGB music video in the band's history, costing an estimated $150,000.
- The music video won the awards for Best Video and MuchLoud Best Rock Video at the 2000 Much Music Video Awards.
- The video reached #1 for two consecutive weeks betwen March 10 and 17 on Canada's Much Music Countdown.[2]
- The song is featured on Much Music's Big Shiny Tunes 5 album.
- In 2009, 102.1 "The Edge" in Toronto counted down the Top 200 songs of the 90's. "Load Me Up" was ranked #59.[3]
