Rory MacDonald (born July 22, 1989) is a Canadian professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter. Rory is a welterweight fighter and lightweight fighter. He holds MMA lightweight titles with King of the Cage and King of the Cage Canada.[1] MacDonald has signed a four-fight deal with UFC and will likely debut in January 2010.[2]

Mixed Martial Arts

Rory trains with David Lea and his fight team Toshido Fighting Arts Academy.

Rory made his professional debut at the age of sixteen winning against Terry Thiara at a Extreme Fighting Challenge event. He moved to 2-0 beating Ken Tran in his King of the Cage debut. He fought and won one more time before signing exclusively with King of the Cage. He won two fights after signing and was then reward with a title shot against Kajan Johnson which Rory won. Rory then was awarded a shot at the King of the Cage World Lightweight title, Rory fought Clay French and knocked Clay out in the second round. After the fight Rory moved up to welterweight and was successful defeating Elmer Waterhen.[3][4] After his win over former KOTC 205-pound champion Nick Hinchliffe, Rory was signed to the Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC).[5]

He will make his debut for the promotion at UFC Fight Night 20 against Mike Guymon.[6][7]

Personal life

Rory has a younger brother Jake MacDonald who also competes in mixed martial arts.
