Brendan Schaub is a American professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter and former professional football player for the AFL's Utah Blaze and as a member of the Buffalo Bills practice squad. He is a cast member of SpikeTV's The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights. [1]
Biography
Brendan was born and raised in Aurora, Colorado. He has always been a gifted athlete, as he was an All-State performer in both football and lacrosse at Overland High School. It was then that he received a full athletic scholarship to the University of Colorado where he played four years as a fullback. After college he attempted to play football professionally in the Arena Football League with the Utah Blaze and also in the NFL where he spent a short time on the practice squad for the Bills. [2]
Mixed Martial Arts
After retiring from football, Schaub returned to Colorado where he began training in mixed martial arts, a sport he had participated in often throughout his life, typically as a way to stay in shape. He found UFC middleweight contender Nate Marquardt's gym, High Altitude Martial Arts located in Denver. It was there and also in New Mexico at Greg Jackson's Training Facility, where Schaub splits his time that he met UFC Heavyweight contender Shane Carwin. The two became friends as well as training partners. Before long, Schaub became a Golden Gloves boxing champ and was later awarded his purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. [3]
The Ultimate Fighter
Schaub is currently on the tenth season of The Ultimate Fighter fighting for Team Rashad.[4] Schaub along with James McSweeney were the two fighter Rashad Evans wanted most as they both train with him at Team Jackson. Evans made Schaub his 2nd pick and the 3rd overall. He fought on the fourth episode against Demico Rogers defeating him via first round submission with an anaconda choke and moved onto the quarter finals.
In the quarterfinals, Schaub was selected to fight teammate, Jon Madsen.
