Alpharetta High School is a public high school located in Alpharetta, Georgia, and is part of the Fulton County School System.
Athletics
Competitive sports at Alpharetta High School consist of football, basketball, baseball, ice and roller hockey, lacrosse, soccer, wrestling, tennis, track and field, cross country, volleyball, and golf. Although not officially recognized by Georgia High School Association, additional athletic activities include rugby, fencing, ice hockey, roller hockey, and ping pong. Among the varsity teams, boys' lacrosse, girls' track and field, and baseball have been successful at state championships.

Student activities
Alpharetta offers a wide range of club organizations. The honors societies include NHS, SNHS, NLHS, and NAHS; the members of clubs engage in volunteer services throughout the year. The other academic clubs in Alpharetta are Math Team, Academic Bowl, and Science Olympiad.
The school also has a student-operated newspaper, The Silver Lining.
Alpha Productions is Alpharetta's Mainstage Theatre production group. Alpha Productions produces a fall show and spring musical each year.
The music programs at Alpharetta include a chorus, marching band, two symphonic bands, wind ensemble, percussion ensemble, concert orchestra, chamber orchestra, and symphonic orchestra. The symphonic orchestra has played in Chicago and at Carnegie Hall. In 2009, it performed at the American String Teachers' Association Conference in Atlanta, GA.[citation needed]
Awards
Alpharetta has won awards in a variety of fields.
Music
- The AHS Bands have consistently been awarded Superior ratings at LGPE. The Wind Ensemble has achieved straight Superior ratings every year that it has performed.[citation needed]
- The AHS Symphony Orchestra has received a Superior rating in Large Group Performance Evaluation every year since it has existed.[citation needed]
- The AHS Band, Chorus, and Orchestra regularly have a number of students audition for the GMEA All-State bands, orchestras, and choruses, held yearly in Savannah.[citation needed]
Academic
- Recipient of the 2007-2008 Governors Cup for the AAAAA school with the highest increase in SAT scores.[citation needed]
- The Academic Team won the 2007–2008 Annual High Q competition, which is hosted by Chuck Dowdle and airs on WSB-TV. They were originally alternates for the competition.[1]
Athletic
- The 2008 Girls Cross Country team was Region 6-AAAAA champions[2] and placed 6th in the state.[3]
- The 2007 Girls Track and Field was Region 6-AAAAA Champions, placed 7th in the state[citation needed]
Chess
On February 28, 2009, Alpharetta High School won second prize in the 2009 Georgia High School Chess Championships, earning the title "Runner Up Georgia High School State Chess Champion".[citation needed]
Speech and Debate Team
The school's Varsity Speech and Debate Team placed 2nd in the State Championship in Spring 2009 and 5th at the All-State competition. A team at the school also received their first TOC bid in the Fall of 2008.[citation needed] A team at the school also won the Junior Varsity Division at the Wake Forest University 'Earlybird' Tournament in 2009.
