The Indian Economic Service (IES) is a Group A civil service of the Union of India.

IES officers form a specialist cadre in the Indian civil service of the Government of India that broadly supplies economic advice and assistance with policy formation.[1]

It was organized in 1967 and it is administered through the IES Division of the Ministry of Finance of India. The Union Public Service Commission of India conducts annual examinations to select competent candidates. To compete in the examination, candidates must have a postgraduate degree in economics. This is an organised Group 'A' Service consisting of a specialized cadre of officers trained in economic analysis, policy formulation and its implementation.
