Carla Angeline Reyes Abellana, better known simply as Carla Abellana (born June 12, 1986 in Manila, Philippines), is a Filipina actress and commercial model who plays the lead role in the Philippine adaptation of the Mexican telenovela, Rosalinda, aired in GMA Network.[1]
Biography
She is the daughter of Rey "PJ" Abellana, a popular Filipino actor of the 1980s, and former actress Rhea Reyes. Rhea’s mother is Delia Razon, an Ilongga with Japanese-American and German American roots who was a popular actress during the 1950s.
Carla Abellana had a romantic relationship with Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) player JC Intal. They eventually ended their five-year relationship shortly before Carla Abellana entered Philippine Showbiz. Controversy recently ensued when photos of Carla Abellana and JC Intal surfaced allegedly proving that they are still together up to the present.
Education
She went to O.B. Montessori Center in Greenhills from Pre-school to High School. She majored in Psychology at De La Salle University in Manila and graduated Cum Laude.[2]
Early career
Abellana started as a commercial model. Her endorsed products included Palmolive shampoo, Jollibee Ice Craze and many more.
In 2009, she auditioned to be one of the three leading ladies of Richard Gutierrez for the television series, Zorro. Instead of giving her a leading lady role in Zorro, the management of GMA Network saw a potential in her and decided to launch her as a new star by giving her a leading role in a television soap. She was chosen to star in the Philippine remake of the Mexican telenovela, Rosalinda which was originally starred by Mexican actress, Thalia.
Rosalinda
Abellana's first major project on television is her title role project with GMA Network, the Philippine remake of Mexican telenovela, Rosalinda where she portrays the lead role. Geoff Eigenmann will portray Fernando Jose, her love interest on the soap. The series is directed by prominent Philippine directors, Maryo J. delos Reyes and Gil Tejada. The TV series got its TV ratings of 31.9% on July 9, the second highest since the pilot episode last Monday, July 6. On August 17, 2009, Rosalinda got its highest ratings so far at 33% in Mega Manila survey by AGB Nielsen Philippines. Rosalinda is not as successful as the previous mexican telenovela remake Marimar. GMA-7 was upset because of the low ratings that the show has received.
Hostings
Aside from Rosalinda, she has co-hosted for SOP Rules. Then, it is announced that Abellana will be hosting along with Dingdong Dantes and Raymond Gutierrez in the fifth season of StarStruck, replacing Jolina Magdangal which will run in November 2009.
Movie career
Carla is a contract star of Regal Films. She signed a 12-picture contract with the company. She is slated to appear in three films this year namely: "Ang Nanay kong Aswang" (her introductory film).
