The Realdoll is a life-size sex doll manufactured by Abyss Creations in the USA, and sold worldwide. The mannequins have durable posable PVC skeletons with steel joints and silicone flesh, which is arguably the state-of-the-art today for lifelike U.S.-made sexual mannequins. Realdoll is designed to closely mimic the texture and weight of the human body. Some owners of such dolls choose to use them as sexual aids and masturbate with them, often dressing them up in special outfits first. Other owners use the dolls as stand-ins for human models in photographic or other art.

Abyss Creations made early prototypes from solid latex dolls with interior skeleton, but then switched to silicone. The current type of female Realdolls were first made and sold in the mid-1990s, and are currently (July 2005) available in a large variety of customisable body configurations in five skin tones. Many different faces are available, and due to the 2004 innovation of an interchangeable "Face-X" system; any face will fit on any body and they can be changed by the owner.

Recent innovations in silicone formulae, skeletal elements and storage now allow for a doll that is less prone to tears and compression marks than older dolls, though they are by no means indestructible.

Prices currently start at $6499.00. As a cheaper option, a torso may be purchased separately. A male Realdoll, "Charlie", is also available, and shemale dolls can be custom ordered.

Shock jock Howard Stern has given a personal endorsement of the product after an on-air test. The doll was featured on HBO's Real Sex show where a couple was filmed having a ménage à trois with one of the mannequins.

Competitor products

The only other competitors Realdoll faces in its price range is from dolls produced in Japan. The Japanese doll makers arguably make similar or better luxury life-size dolls, however these dolls are usually made for the Japanese market only.

SuperBabe(tm) by N/C Dimensioning, Inc. is the closest competitor to the Realdoll being manufactured in the U.S. In comparison to Realdoll, SuperBabe is not quite as flexible when it comes to customization of the doll, but on a cost basis it is slightly less expensive.

S16 (tm) is another manufacturer of dolls based in the US. Like RealDoll they offer a torso option and exchangeable heads. Their doll uses a Fleshlight as the receptible for the user's penis while masturbating with them.
