The 39 Clues Cards

Card collecting, aside from books and online gaming, is also included as part of the series The 39 Clues. At least 400 collectible cards will be released with this series. These cards will provide leads needed to find the 39 Clues. Every book will contain six. Cards are also available for purchase separately in Card Packs. It is possible to collect just the physical cards, but most people also keep virtual versions of the cards online, as part of their 39 Clues account.

Virtual collections

It is possible to keep virtual versions of cards online. Every physical card has a code which can be entered online to receive a virtual version of that card.

There are many more things online than just the cards:

• Most cards have a "Top Secret" file for the players to read.
• Some cards unlock Clues.
• Some cards have puzzles (usually they are to solve a secret code that is on the card) that are given and can be solved online. Three hints are given for each puzzle. The difficulty of the puzzles is rated on a scale of one to four. When the correct answer for a puzzle is given, the "top secret" file for the card is unlocked.

When someone opens a 39 Clues account, they receive the virtual versions of 6 cards which can also be found in Card Pack 1. This chart shows those cards:

Card Combos

Since June 2, 2009, it is possible to combine cards together to unlock Clues. Thirty-nine of these combos will be available. When someone adds all the cards in a combo to their 39 Clues account, a Clue will be unlocked. All of these combos have a name, and a number (from 1 to 39). This number is the same number as the number of the Clue that the combo unlocks.

Types of combos:

• The cards from every book are a combo. This combo unlocks the same Clue that Amy and Dan find in the book.
• There are some cards that that are related to every Mission. These cards form a combo that unlocks the same Clue that the Mission unlocks.
• There are cards that are about things related to a Clue. These cards form combos that unlock the Clue that is related to the cards.

Cards that are part of the same combo are marked with the same symbol, which is a type of key. This symbol is not on cards in Card Pack 1, however, some combos include cards from both Card Packs 1 and 2.

There are some combos which consist of only one card, but most consist of three to six cards.

Card Packs

Four Card Packs will be released during the series. Card Packs contain sixteen randomly assorted cards, so every pack is different.

Card Pack 1: Secrets and Sabotage

This is the first card pack in the 39 Clues series. It was released on September 2008, and contains cards associated with the first three novels in the 39 Clues series. There are seventy-three of those cards. Fifty-five of them come from this card pack, and the rest come from the novels. Card Pack 1 also contains a game guide with tips on how to play.

This is the second card pack in the 39 Clues series. It was released on June 2, 2009, and contain cards associated with the fourth, fifth, and sixth novels in the 39 Clues series. The 4th Card Pack will be released on June 8, 2010. This card pack is associated with the 9th and 10th books. Most likely, it will cover cards 256 through 399.

Find Dan and Amy bonus cards

Along with the find Dan and Amy videos, five free bonus cards will be released. These cards, along with the videos, will help readers discover Dan and Amy's whereabouts before The Black Circle is released. Every video will give a code for a free virtual version of a bonus card.

Card descriptions/secret messages

Card 426: Undercover Cahills

The first card features two passports: one for Amy, and one for Dan. On them there is a simple substitution code: on Amy's passport it reads "Follow Your Parents", and on Dan's "Time for an Alliance."

On the "top secret" part of the card, there is an e-mail. It is possible to read a secret message from it by reading only the first word in every line. If this is done, the message becomes "Amy and Dan are ready for the next step." This card is part of a combo, which could mean that it unlocks a clue.

Card 427: The Embassy

The second card shows Amy and Dan's parents, Hope Cahill and Arthur Trent, standing in front of an unknown embassy. This turns out to be the Embassy of the United States in Moscow. This could mean that Amy and Dan go to Moscow, because the first card says to "Follow Your Parents."

On the "top secret" part of the card, there is a Tomas report about a trip that Hope Cahill and Arthur Trent took, presumably to Moscow. Key words are blacked out. Hope and Arthur went to a secret stronghold of one of the four branches or the Madrigals (the name of the branch is blacked out). They also go to a State Theatre. This could mean that they were searching for a Janus clue or meeting Janus members, because the Janus are the dramatists and actors. An unknown agent follows them to both locations, and the report ends with the agent saying that Hope Cahill has become a threat. This card is also part of a combo.

Card 428: Airline Tickets

The third card shows airline tickets that were included in the package sent to Dan and Amy. They are from PANGAEA airlines. The destination is not shown on the tickets, but the flight number is 232.

On the "top secret" section of the card, there is a surveillance photo of Dan and Amy in Egypt. On the bottom left corner of the card, there are two lines of letters and numbers. If only the letters are read, it says, "time to intervene." This card makes up the third card in the combination.

Card 429: The Frozen Road

The fourth card shows a guidebook page of a 2032 km long frozen road. This is actually the Kolyma Highway (or the Road of Bones) in Russia. The place the guidebook is for is not shown but is most likely Russia. This suggests Dan and Amy going to Moscow. And on the picture of the card it shows the x-ray version and says "121"

On the "Top Secret" part of the card, there is a letter from Hope Cahill to Arthur Trent saying they were going to stop in Brussels, Belgium and get another plane so no one could trace them. This suggests they are going somewhere in Europe and it was very important. If there is a secret message or not is unknown. This is the fourth card in the combo.

Card 430: Scrambled Cities

The fifth and last card in the combination shows the names of six cities, but they are anagrammed. The cities are Volgograd, Omsk, Magadan, St. Petersburg, Moscow, and Yekaterinburg.

Secrets of their Parents' Past Bonus Cards

Between September 11 and November 2, virtual cards 431-435 will be released. They will all be part of a combo, which will be telling "secrets of their parents' past."

Card 431 - The Clue Hunter
This card has a picture of Dan running with ninja stars being thrown at him. A message on the card says "Agent Identified: Dan Cahill" with a coded transmission below it. When decoded it reads "HE MUST NOT FIND THE CLUE."

Card 432 - Madrigal Maze
This card cannot be replicated, but now has a picture of a large Mayan looking temple, that is split, and has a large black strip and on that there are the words 'Level 20 Complete. Encryption Key Unlocked'. This card is only obtainable from the iPod Touch/iPhone app,, Madrigal Maze.

Card 433 - Madrigals Down Under
This card tells most powerful agents of each branch, including Isabel Kabra, who killed Amy and Dan's parents.

Also, on September 11, a coded message was sent out to all branches from their branch. The Lucians had hacked and stolen a Madrigal message. Decoded it reads: 'Amy and Dan have begun to repeat the mistakes of their parents.'

The Jefferson Puzzle

On the back of one card from each group of book cards there is a part of a secret picture, called the "Jefferson Puzzle" by fans because the first card in it is the Thomas Jefferson card. The cards that have parts of the picture are:

These cards explain about the four original Cahills: Jane, Luke, Thomas, and Katherine. They also explain many things, like the rivalry between the Tomas and Ekats. The cards are:

Incomplete Combos

These are combos which have not been completed as of yet. While the Frankenstein card does not physically have a key on it, the digital form of the card features a key with a book. In Book 4, a clue to the Clue was the three gifts of the magi. Since Gold and Myrrh are already found, and if this card is one hidding a clue, It may be percived as Frankincense, as the word looks, and sounds like Frankenstien and may be a janus clue hidden in this famous book.

Though there is current speculation that the two cards Grimm Tales and Keat's Grave might also be in the combo, With Grimm Tales including another popular story, though it was ment to keep others away from alchemy. Also John Keat who was a friend of Mary Shelley (The writer of Frankenstien). Though the connection between these cards are not confirmed.
