The Infernal City is a book by Greg Keyes. It is the first of two planned books based on The Elder Scrolls series of video games.

Plot introduction

The Infernal City takes places about 40 years after the events of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles.[1] Tamriel is a continent inhabited by many races and ruled by an imperial authority. A floating city known as Umbriel is devastating Tamriel.[1] Any person caught beneath Umbriel dies and are resurrected as undead[1]. This book is partly the link between The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and the next opus that takes place 200 years after the crisis of Oblivion.

Characters

An "unlikely group of heroes" is at the center of the novel.[1] Tamriel now has a new Emperor named Titus Mede, and he has a young son named Attrebus.[2] Prince Attrebus then meets a seventeen-year-old girl named Annaïg, and together, they set out on a quest to save their land.[2] A spy sent out by conspirators and a mage bent on revenge are also involved.[1]
