Vengaboys

Vengaboys are a Eurodance pop group based in the Netherlands. The brainchild of two Dutch producers Wessel van Diepen and Dennis van den Driesschen (Danski and Delmundo), they enjoyed commercial success in the late 1990s. They are best known for their two UK number one singles, "Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!" and "We're Going to Ibiza" and their U.S. Top 40 hit, "We Like to Party." They have sold an estimated 15 million records worldwide. [1]

History

Spanish producers Danski and Delmundo initially found success organizing illegal beach parties during the summers.[2] Danski and Delmundo recruited four dancers to form a group: Kim Sasabone, Denise van Rijswijk, Robin Pors and Roy den Burger. In 1997, the name Vengaboys was thought up during a recording session for another of Danski's project bands, called Nakatomi.

After two small hits with "Parada De Tettas" and "To Brazil", they scored a number 4 hit in the UK with "Up & Down" in November 1998. The follow-up "We Like to Party" peaked at number 3, and also reached number 26 on the Billboard Hot 100. In June 1999, they scored their first number 1 with "Boom Boom Boom Boom", when it topped the charts in both the UK and the Netherlands. "We Like to Party" was used in a Six Flags advertisement campaign, featuring an elderly gent dancing to the tune and picking up passengers.

"We're Going to Ibiza", a reworking of Typically Tropical's 1975 number 1 hit "Barbados", also reached the top slot in September 1999. Their debut LP The Party Album spent 30 consecutive weeks on the U.S. Billboard 200 and was certified gold (500,000 units) in November 1999.

Shortly before the release of their second album, Robin Pors left the group and was replaced by Yorick Bakker. More UK Top 10 hits followed: "Kiss (When the Sun Don't Shine)", "Shalala Lala" and "Uncle John from Jamaica". For their fourth single the group got a fifth member, the computer-animated Cheekah. The single "Cheekah Bow Bow (That Computer Song)" was not as successful as their previous singles. They released their single "Forever as One" in February 2001 and the group temporarily disbanded.

In 2007 they returned to the club scene, with new member Donny Latupeirissa replacing Roy den Burger. They have most recently been touring university student union clubs in the UK and Ireland.

There were some rumors in 2008 that the Vengaboys had penciled in a new single entitled "Partylife" to be released, but it never came to be.

In 2009 the group continued to tour around the UK and Ireland; stopping in towns such as Enniskillen, Coleraine, Belfast and Newry

According to their official Youtube channel, The Vengaboys will come back in 2010 with a new single! Song title and release date are yet unknown. On their Twitter account, they let slip that Robin Pors has once again joined the group, replacing Yorick or Donny.

Producers Danski & Delmundo: "2010 is the year! Look out for the new hit! It's the gayest song we've ever made...."
