Elisabeth Röhm (born April 28, 1973) is a German American television actress, best known for playing Assistant District Attorney Serena Southerlyn on the television drama Law & Order and as Detective Kate Lockley on the TV series Angel.

Life and career

Röhm was born in Düsseldorf, Germany, but her parents took her to New York City before she reached her first birthday. Later on, she resided in Greenwich, Connecticut. [1] Ms. Röhm possesses dual citizenship in the United States and in Germany. Her father, Eberhard Röhm, was a corporate attorney. Her mother, Lisa Loverde, is a copywriter who once wrote for the TV soap opera, Guiding Light.[2] The parents of Ms. Röhm divorced when she was eight or nine years old.

Ms. Röhm graduated from the St. Andrew's-Sewanee High School, and she attended but did not graduate from the Sarah Lawrence College in Yonkers, New York, where she studied writing and European History.

Ms. Röhm, who was selected for Maxim magazine's so-called "Hot 100" list in 2002, received her first TV acting role as "Dorothy 'Dorf' Hayes" in the American soap opera One Life to Live in 1997. Ms. Röhm also worked as a recurring character (20 episodes) in the TV series Angel in 1999 - 2001 as "Detective Kate Lockley". She had a regular role in the Turner Network Television drama series Bull in 2000 - 2001.

Ms. Röhm was hired to portray the Assistant District Attorney Southlyn by the producers of the series Law & Order in 2001, and she carried out this role in 85 episodes during the years 2001 through 2005 (for four TV years).

Ms. Röhm is an avid horseback righer who rides about four times per week. She switched from being a hunter jumper to the dressage event at the request of the producers of Law and Order, who were justifiably concerned about the impact that an riding accicent would have on their TV series.
