Development

The shooting of the film commenced in Kerala in November 2009 and was continued in different places in Tamil Nadu like Marakkanam Villupuram, Mamallapuram, Thoothukudi, Chennai and Puducherry.[citation needed]

The film received heavy promotion as Vijay's 50th film.[1].

Reviews

The film recieved mixed reviews. Behindwoods gave it one and a half stars, declaring it "the usual Vijay fare" and that it "will cater to his die-hard fans" although there are several scenes where "even the Vijay fans [will] squirm in their seats with dissatisfaction."[2] The entertainment site Sify agreed that "[t]he story is wafer thin and as old as the Kodai hills", but stated that Sura proved that "[c]onviction can bring any formula to life". It also called Sura as the most fun of all of Vijay's recent movies. [3] Rediff praised Vijay's style, screen presence and "flair for comedy" and stated that the movie was a "sturdy platform for [Vijay]'s political aspirations." [4]

Soundtrack

Untitled

The soundtrack of the film, composed by Mani Sharma, was released on 29 March 2010. The album features 6 songs. The Behindwoods review stated that the music was one of the negative aspects of the film.[5]
