JoAnne Lorenzana

JoAnne or Joanne Geraldine O. Lorenzana (born on February 14) is a Filipina recording and performing artist, songwriter and former model, best know as an exponent of Original Pilipino Music [1] in the Mid-1980s to the 1990s. She is a notable graduate of the premier university in the Philippines, the University of the Philippines.[2]

Lorenzana was discovered by Filipino composer-singer-manager Nonong 'Dero' Pedero in 1985 and soon took the young singer under his management, employing her talent for commercial jingles. Prior to Lorenzana's formal foray into into local Philippine entertainment, she front-acted for international acts held locally, such as Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine, Menudo (the band of Ricky Martin) and the British jazz ensemble, Shakatak[3]. The following year. She was launched in a show billed as: JoAnne: Her First Time to announce the entry of the pop artist into the music industry. [4]

Lorenzana 's career heavily thrived soon after joining Pepsi's New Generation Artists that featured a 12-artist popular and new, up-and-coming singers that identified the youthful, vibrant and talented generation of the era. She also was contracted as a signature model of CINDERELLA's Seventeen For Gals [5] alongside 17 young models to epitomize the fashion lifestyle of the same age group. In the succeeding years, as a singer-model, Lorenzana was contracted to promote a variety of products from jeans, hair care products, appliance lines and various new fashion signature brands.

In the course of her early years, Lorenzana also represented the Philippines in a couple of song festivals namely the Fifth Asean Song Festival held in Singapore [6] and the 1st ASIA Song Festival, held in Japan and aired on the NHK channel in Japan[7]. Moreover, she sang the nationalistic song Bayan Ko which she revived in 1987 for PLDT which won her the ‘Best Revival Recording’ for AWIT AWARDS [8], the song she performed during the inauguration of Pres. Fidel V. Ramos as the 12th President of the Republic of the Philippines.

Lorenzana has 5 albums to date [9], the latest of which is an album, her first official release Between Seasons [10] released in the U.S. under the NeoMONDE Productions label ( 2009) and distributed in the Philippines under Universal Records Philippines Inc..
